Official Metal Gear Solid 4 Gameplay Demonstration YES YES ALL OVER MY OCTOCAM

i can't think of another game series that grows so much from installment to installment. this no longer has anything in common with the controlled, programmatic scenarios of mgs1 and 2. those freeform battlefield sequences are going to be unbelievable fun -- the number of approaches you can choose between, the number of tools you have at your disposal, the sheer detail with which everything's been constructed. zomg.

OK, but.. raytraced? Come on now. The lighting wasn't anything super-special in that trailer. Also, can you really tell there's more detail on his face from a video that's 4x lower res, and when his face is different now?

yeah, especially strange since his camo suit looks better if anything

Konami just sold me a PS3. Glad I waited before making my next-gen plunge. Hoping for a price drop right before this comes out. I can dream can't I ?

uhm.. I just saw the gamevideos footage.

Don't look at the youtube videos, please. They are like 1/100 the awesomeness of the complete video.

It's just so damn awesome. I don't even get the complaint about the animations other than it doesn't look like real life. It looks like a game.

A bad texture won't destroy this game. The gameplay seems to be top notch. It's almost beautiful to see him just nailing those shots with the gun in that view. :)

that part was awesome.

btw, we still haven't heard hgw's score yet. i wonder if we'll hear it in the tgs trailer if they're going to show a new trailer at tgs.
true - can't wait to hear what he cooks up. guy just gets better and better too. his kingdom of heaven score is great

I said it before but it needs repeating.

Rolling apocalypse.

Kojima delivers 10 fold. This and Killzone looks leagues better then everything else IMO.

Graphically it looks good but I wasn't blown away, I think COD4 captures the hectic nature of a batlefiled better. But that game is more linear than MGS4, so it's a trade off.

Another thing I especially liked were the grenade deaths. Instead of flipping out with an abuse of Havok physics, they just plop dead.
The physics look great. I loved when Snake fired the RPG and those guys fell off the top of the building.

Looks great but I thought it would be more evolved. Same old MGS which I guess is not a bad thing but I thought the interaction with the enemies would be a little more realistic given the setting. AI seem like they will be as dumb as ever and that option of turning into barrel kind of seems odd now

I have just watched the GameVideos stream, and...

*The game looks unbelievable! Solid framerate, fluid animations, highly detailed models... just wow. I mean, it's not Unreal Tournament III wow, but it's quite good.

*I'm impressed with the different kinds of movements you can pull of in order to evade, attack or infiltrate. Seems they really wanted the game to be as fluid as possible.

*The MGS vibe it's present. It looks like they maintained the spirit and the trademarks of the series and just added a lot of stuff.

*OMFG @ teh ASSPLOSIONS! BOOOM!! MOTION BLUR FTW!!!

*I know it's alpha, but the fire looked terrible. I know it must be a placeholder, but it actually looked PS2ish... Anyway, I'm sure in the end it will be amazing -MGS3 fire = best fire in the PS2-.

*The menu looks great.

Could somebody please knock me out until early 2008?!? I can't wait...

FPS mode looked a little wonky, but that over the shoulder / RE4 camera rocked!
Multiplayer should be alot of fun.

I agree, but it's nice to see it being an option for real FPS fanatics and for some variation.

The AI is still plenty good. As was noted earlier, the AI is designed to allow the player a wide variety of options without extreme punishment. Ultra sensitive AI results in frustration.

The fluidity of the gameplay really stands out yes. A huuuge step forward compared to the iffy control schemes in mgs2 and 3. It's as if the controller is hardly a barrier anymore between the player and the game.

Also the game is clearly set on easy.

Okay, that was absurd, this has suddenly become my most anticipated game again :lol

It's like he's thought of everything to make it the ultimate Metal Gear Solid. 3rd Person free look camera, RE4 Style over the shoulder view with left and right switches and FPS view, unbelievable.

Great animations, great graphics (Love the debris, smoke etc.), loved the magazine bit (Kojima, you can charge whatever you want for DLC Porn Magazines! :lol ), loved how they're making intelligent uses of the Sixaxis controller. (Leaning around corners, quickly removing camouflage)

Just wow, the only negative thing I can think of is that Sniper rifle seemed pretty loud but the other guard didn't seem to hear/react to it. Other than that...can't wait :D

[EDIT] And another thing, anyone else notice that Snake looked down and tip-toed inbetween the bodies on the floor at 8 mins 30 secs? Crazy attention to detail...

I thought I was blown away when I saw Heavenly Sword's real time demonstration.

Then I saw Lair's real time demonstration.

Then I saw GTHD:Concept

Then I saw Uncharted's real time demonstration

Then I saw R&C.

Then Killzone 2.

Now MGS4.

I think you are tripping...the lighting looks better now. As for the face, yeah I preffered the old one, but its a cutscene, I doubt it is rendered worse, since its a cutscene, check the HS faces

Alright, I'll post comparisons.

The lighting was better too, 100% sure. No shadow map flickering, no matter how close, better skin shader, etc. There is no doubt. I don't mind that much really, but to say it didn't look better is being wrong:p I'll even adjust the new footage to make it on par as far as contrasts go, cause I think the video we got is way too washed compared to what it probably looks like on TV.

Hugs PS3... Kojima is GOD, WKS is beautiful, HS, KZ2, R&C, Uncharted, etc..

The PS3 exclusives look damn beautiful.. AND MGS4 is the best game of all time!

Now that was great. Not just graphical improvements over the old game, they improved what mattered to me in the game play. From the camera, to finally giving Snake the ability to move in a lower potion that isn’t prone. I got to say; I’m impressed with what was shown here. I can’t wait for this to come out.

Wow, I had no idea it would be this different, I wasn't really that impressed prior but that gameplay video is just sick.

SolidSnakex, can you make a quick gif of when Snake rolls sideways behind the wall, right before he goes to hide in the dumpster?
