regarding the league:

once we start the league does our "league universe" stay the same? what i mean is will our league be affected by the roster updates? are trades available for online leagues? anyone know?

No one knows, nobody can join a league right now as they have that dumb ass 14 day/10 games played requirement as a barrier to entry. And of course the manual is useless as it doesn't detail what's possible there.

I understand what you are saying, but then why put in the instruction manual and in the game, that the rosters can be used online or saved to use later in offline mode... Perhaps they mean just in a quick game or exhibition game????

You can use the newest roster available in your franchise, but once you start it you're locked into that roster. It makes total sense.

The way you want would be impossible, but a lot of people play it that way. What they do is control all of the teams and make the trades/moves themselves.

Personally, I don't care as much, as long as I start out hte franchise with the right players I'm happy. It's not mimicing reality 100% so why not put your little spin on it? It's sort of a "WHAT IF YOU WERE GM" kind of thing.

I don't know, to each their own.

Anyone notice you can't view AAA or AA lineups/rotations? Or is that just in spring training? (haven't made it to the regular season yet in Franchise mode)

Got the game earlier day from Walmart. Played my first game on the difficulty above Rookie, I forget what it's called. I was the Braves playing against the Rockies. Ended up winning 1-0 in 15 innings. It is so friggin hard to get hits in the game.

I ended up getting a bunt single in the 15th due to the pitcher being bugged and just standing there looking at the ball as it rolled and stopped near the mound. Then on a hit and run play, Chipper Jones drove one down the right side foul line for the game winning hit. Tim Hudson was the player of the game even though he never made an appearance.

A patch soon would be nice. Lots of people playing online already. Over 180 people as of 3pm this afternoon and the game isn't even officially out. The in-game messageboard already has complaints of cheaters and cheesers. :D

:lol

Couldn't wait, so I snatched the PSP version from my Wal-Mart today (No PS3 version in sight though). All of this year's features are implemented from the PS3 one, and it even has the same soundtrack :)

Exact same graphics as last year, but I'm not complaining. Really wish that there was some connectivity between the two though, specifically I want to be able to swap my Road to the Show guy between systems.

Really surprised they haven't done this yet.

I've clocked about 6 hours since I got the PS3 version yesterday, and it seriously needs a patch.

I'm playing shortstop for the Mets on RTTS, and I've observed the following:

- One in every 15-20 plays, when I hit a button to throw the ball to a base, it treats it as though I was on the batting team - so hitting X sends it home, or pressing square throws it to third. Thus, I completely blow the double play situation or fail to get an out. Either it's a bug, or the stupidest fucking "your character can't handle pressure" feature I've ever seen.

- I recall last year there was a bug where occasionally while you're on base, your CPU teammates will hit the ball foul, and then suddenly the game fast forwards to another play without you getting to finish your running. I've had that happen twice already.

- On the fortunate side of things, at one point during spring training I hit a bouncing single that managed to roll to the back wall - or rather, it should've only rolled to it. Instead it went through it. The defense kept trying to run after it, and I took an in the park home run. Stupid.

- And lastly - so I work through Spring Training with the Mets and hit more HRs than anyone else on the team, get more RBIs than anyone else on the team, batting over .400, making most of my defensive plays...and my contract offer is "AA Bench". I'm performing better than everyone else on the team and I'm sent down as far as I can go? I realize there's attribute consideration, but in MLB 07, at least I was only sent down to AAA and I didn't get stuck playing an alternate position (like I did today).

(Also, why the fuck do the Binghamton Mets play at Wagonman Stadium? Upstate NY doesn't have a lot of desert and/or covered wagons.)

I still like the game and all, but ugh, frustrating as hell. I hope the call-up algorithm is better this year (last year's "you've been called up! sit out three games - okay, go back down" was beyond retarded), because if I get stuck in AA for the rest of my career I'm going to choke someone out.

I dunno I'm still leaning towards 2k8. I really liked it last year and the new analog pitching system seems really neat. Also I don't like the animations in The Show. It was nice and all in '06, but that shit is pretty outdated now. I'm gonna wait for the reviews to see which one I'm gonna pick up.

So you don't like road to the show? Maybe you just like it b/c Reyes is on the cover. Wright in your avatar?

Maybe im reading this wrong or something, but i believe thats the way its supposed to work. Square is third, X is home, triangle is second and circle is first, the same as one of the base running modes.

Nah Road to the Show doesn't catch me. It has nothing to do with whoever is on the cover. Wright was on the cover last year and I didn't get it opting for 2K8 instead. I just prefer the best simulating experience. I'm not into all these extra stuff like Road to the Show.

My understanding in RTTS bases are(relative) i.e. if you are a 3rd baseman the bases are 3rd base becomes the circle home becomes the triangle, x is 1st base and square is 2nd. Thats the way it was last year and I've been playing the game since friday 12noon and its the same in 08

Right, and that's the assumption I'm working under. I'm pressing X while fielding because last year, that's what threw to second base.

But now for additional confusion, the manual indicates that this is no longer the case for fielding - that X is always Home, Triangle is second, etc. I think the in-game menus may list the 07 style (X=Second).

Either way, I've thrown it to both 2nd *and* home using the X button, and to 1st *and* 3rd using the square button. I routinely throw it to third using Circle. Perhaps the game is just as confused as I am.

Seems like there are a lot of bugs...

Hopefully some get ironed out.

In other news, I put in 2K7 today for the first time in months and started an exhibition with the same teams and settings as the The Show demo. My God...I didn't even finish the top half of the first inning.

The Show has ruined that series for me forever...and I loved it last year.

WTF!

So, a co-worker of mine is into MLB2K7, and I told him that this might be the game to get, as the 'best' MLB title this year. Is this accurate?

I would say so.

I've been calling every single store in my area looking for this game, and none of them have it yet. :( If anyone in San Diego already has a copy, PLEASE tell me where you got it. Otherwise, I have to wait one more day, one more day...

2K best sim. That's a good one.

I wish people online would play properly. Everyone I've played against attempts a steal every time they get a runner on, throws junk pitches which is an absolute fucking nightmare to pick up on in the shitty netcode the game has, and disconnects in the 8th or 9th inning when they don't think they will win the game. Lots of people choose the Tigers which is sort of funny. Didn't think they were such a popular team, I guess since they are rated 1st overall in the game, people feel the need to play as them.

Just had a 3 hit game with Kelly Johnson and Tex hit a mammoth 2-run shot to go up in the 8th, but the dude DC'd on me. :(

Download the demo and judge for yourself.

I'd do the same for 2K8 if they'd man up and put a demo out there.

Any and every sports game out there, people will play like fucktards. It's why I think online is overrated for the most part in games since people will play like shits. Especially in sports games.

Anyways, I just had the Gamestop automated person call me and say the game will come in tomorrow. Which is weird since in the systems, it ships tomorrow and comes in on Weds. I called to check and it still says the same. Hopefully they get them in tomorrow. Either them or Walmart (my only choices in this town).

Any one else have Gamestop call them for a release tomorrow?

please tell me there's some sort of punishment for doing this otherwise it could be a game-breaking thing with the online play... do they still get a loss? is there a "% of disconnects" stat.. anything

Well, I haven't TOUCHED the majors yet. I have been playing RTTS all day (Played every inning that my pitcher has pitched...over 70)...anyways, I just had one of the most thrilling gaming experiences ever...

I am in AA and I almost threw a perfect *bleeping* game. I play on Hall of Fame, btw.

AHHHH...Bottom of the 7th, they keep showing the scoreboard and saying that there is something special about it (not jinxing it) and alway showing me walking around the mound after outs...

And then I walk a guy, and then another guy. Then I get a dude 0-2 and I *BLEEPING* BEAN HIM. I'm freaking out, my control is wild, all over the place. And then I strike out the last two guys to end the inning with bases loaded. I pumped my fist in real life! I'm freaking out!!! WHOA!!!!!

And then I come out in the bottom of the 8th, they are mentioning it, but not in a jinxing way, first guy grounds softly to first, he takes it himself. Next guy his a hard grounder right at the second basemen...he gets...STUCK IN AN ANIMATION!!! RIGHT THROUGH HIS LEGS!!! NO!!! NO!!! The audience (I was the away team) gives me a standing O and I raise my glove in acknowledgment as the commentators talk about how the crowd won't see history tonight.

Ah well, bear down...next guy...single up the middle. I'm at 110+ pitches, take me out coach! Next guy, single to left, they score a run.

Then the coach pulled me. I went 7.1, 3 H, 2 BB's, 1 ER, 1 R, and 7 K's.

Awesome experience.

Yeah, there is a quits and disconnects stat. Got a few more games in this evening and was able to play complete games since I was on the losing end. I played one game where there was hardly any lag at all, but for the most part, it's been a frustrating experience.

Wait, Shawn said the game didn't lag this year...?

Out of 8 games I've played online, 7 were perfectly smooth while there was one that was god awful. Defcon's experience certainly hasn't been the one I've had thus far...

Here's my review

(I haven't written an actual review in a while, so please be gentle :D )

Answers to the last 2 questions, yes, you can save anywhere in the game and resume later. There was already a roster update available last week, I'll check for the change that you're asking about tonight when I get home.

Oh, cool. I didn't know they had already made a roster update. Thanks!

ok so I have a question for people who have played this game over the years....

I have my baserunning set to "Classic" and I am having a hard time stealing bases... The instruction manual for the following is very unclear...

Before the Pitch:

Steal Early = Left Stick + Base Icon

So which way do you push the left stick??? I know what button to press for the base icon...

Lead off individual runner = L1 + Left Stick

Again, which way do you push the left stick??

My favorites are:

After the Pitch

Advance Individual Runner = Left stick + base Icon

Return Individual Runner = Left Stick + Base Icon

They are the same damn button combos... How is that even possible...

If someone can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it.

Any word on an official roster update? I thought I read Santana was not listed for the Mets in the game.

When you sign into the online part, it will tell u to update the roster... then when u start a new season in offline you can load that roster and santana is on the mets...

Bog said:
Can you save in the middle of a game, or what?

yes you can.

2K is a joke compared to this.

I play on HoF and it feels like baseball, the stats come out as real as I've ever seen (although I'm just doing RTTS), but in 2K7 if I was playing on Pro, I would win 30-1, if I bumped it up one difficulty to All-Star they would hit a homerun on every other pitch.

I've never been happier with a baseball game since MVP.

IIRC, you push the left stick to select your runner. For example, if you have a guy on second, you would hit up to select the guy on second, then the base (button) you want him to go to. For example, left = man on 3rd, up = man on 2nd, right = man on 1st. His is also how you move individual runners when the ball is in play. Push the stick to select the guy (the blue dot will grow bigger and flash on the field indicator on the top right hand side) and go what you want with him (attempt to take an extra base on a single for example).

So, if you want to steal, push the stick to the right (selecting the man on 1st) then push the base icon. To lead off, push the stick to the right and push L1.

It's not a button combo, it's just that the stick simply selects which runner you're assigning the command to.

Alright my copies came in today!! I will only be able to play the PS3 version tonight since I am going away for a awhile, but I will have the PSP version to play on the trip.
