Official Naruto: Rise of a Ninja thread - Dattebelieve it!

After watching and reading a lot of information about the game I decided to preorder it on play.com, I need a good platformer to take a break from shooters and racing games, also the online mode sounds fun as well as being able to take the fighting offline with a friend to play too.

It's only £32.99 on play.com also, beats paying that £45 friday morning at my local store.

If you reserve it at Gamecrazy. It's not a faceplate either. It's a really shitty sticker you put on top of a faceplate.

Yup. Just check the add for the game. It says "faceplate sticker".

Yeah. I'm hoping Naruto and Fire Emblem are a good balance with each other, because I don't want to just rush through one.

Nope, they said there will be no demo...

I'd love to have one just to be playing the game before it's out, but I didn't need one to sell me on the game - day one purchase...

That really sucks, I need to get the feel of this game... Now I'll just wait for reviews. But seriously if this plays at least a bit decent and has the Japanese voice track, I'm going to fall for this at some point. The trailer is the most watched thing on my 360, so awesome.
 
Although there is not final word on languages on the disc in North America, I think we can take this interview with a dev at Ubisoft Montreal on the UK version to be gospel.

Are you fully localizing it (text and speech) into all European languages?
No, we decided to fully localize the text. But the speech will be for the moment in English and French.

OXM's review apparently mentions Japanese voices as DLC, and I would gladly pay for them. Trying to watch the North American dub hurts. I keep expecting the characters to say teen cool phrases like OWNED! every 2 mins. It's wrong and it will really affect my enjoyment of the game.

Please be on the disk/DLC day one.
 
Having never really seen more than the first dozen or so episodes of the Naruto anime, but really digging the premise and the characters, I decided to do a Naruto power marathon up to episode 80 (covering what's covered in the game). I'm on episode 53 at the moment, and I should make it to 80 by Wednesday. I have to say I'm really enjoying the show, and I love the characters.
Orochimaru
is probably one of the most interesting villains I've come across in a while, and if there's one thing that can hook me into a story, it's an interesting villain. Can't wait to see what happens in the
Chunin Exam tournament
.

Yup, I read this sometime back too, and it seemed like a huge hint to Japanese voice-overs - no matter to me though, I've only watched a handful of dub episodes, and they sound fine to me...

First downloadable character....before the game is even out.

As all of you know, we’ve been hinting at a special secret character not yet announced. It’s been very “troublesome” keeping him hidden, but we are happy to announce that with Naruto: Rise of a Ninja less than a week away from shipping, the secret character is Shikamaru Nara! Shikamaru will be playable in the Fight mode and will be available to download when Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is released! Not only that, but you will be able to download Shikamaru for FREE!

To download Shikamaru, all you have to do is go through a quick process of linking your Xbox LIVE Gamertag with your Ubisoft Account. First, choose “Exclusive Content” from the main menu. In the next screen, you will be prompted to either create a Ubisoft account, or Log In to your existing account. Since you’re all using our forums, just choose the Log In option, and input your username and password in the next screen. Afterwards you should be informed that the account linking is complete. At that point you can choose the option “Download Exclusive Character”, and you can download Shikamaru just like any other Xbox Live download.

If you don’t have a Ubisoft Account already, then choose to create a new account. From there you’ll have to accept the privacy policy. Next you’ll have to choose a username, password and then provide an e-mail account. Once that’s done, choose if you want to receive updates, and then you can choose the “Download Exclusive Character” option and you’re all set.

The process to link your accounts is very quick, easy and absolutely free. Besides being able to download Shikamaru for Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, linking your account will give you access to exclusive content in other games as well. If you also have GRAW 2 for the 360, you can download the “Nowhere Map” an exclusive multiplayer map only for those who have their accounts linked! If you’ve already linked your account in GRAW 2, you don’t have to repeat the process, and can just download it right away.

It's a little bullshit that you have to link your tag to Ubisoft's mailing list. Anyone know if this is less invasive than it sounds?

...Why? So now the dub is horrible because you imagine that they're going to say things they don't say? Alright.

Naruto's voice is admittedly damn painful to listen to, and his VA has absolutely no range OTHER THAN THIS!!!! of any kind at all, that's true. But the whole rest of the dub is pretty damn good. Certainly above average for a series of Naruto's type.




And yay for Shikamaru. :D

There is an episode, I think it's episode 65, which is my favourite in all of Naruto anime. It involves a toad.

Well it's happening. This game is getting ignored or forgotten. I was hopping the hype surrounding it would bring it above the mess of games coming out in the next two months, but look at this..

a 7.0 Game really doesnt desereve GOT Whatever honours. Unless this game beats expectations and turns out to be a 8.5 game.

eitherway it will not effect hype much. If review scores are good and commercials are good then word of mouth will spread. If game gets 7.0 it will just be another ANime game.

Well it should be expected, after all, licensed anime games generally suck. This does look good, but I wouldn't blame people to keep holding out untill the reviews are all in.
 
OXM loved it. Only complaint was the camera was "okay".

I hope Shika kicks ass. 2 days guys! I'm going to go through single-player so fast. Definitely another 1000 achievement points game for me.
 
Cool, it's based on an arc when Naruto was actually good.

BTW, does this have JP voiceovers as an option? I know Viz has some sort of weird thing against including the option in their other games.

Meh. I think Viz should take example from FUNimation. As much as I hate that company, they've at least learned to include the JP voiceovers for every Dragonball game that's been released since Budokai 3 (excluding super dbz).
 
Ooh I didn't know this had a story mode with cutscenes and things. I may have to rent this. I can't play through another fps right now. It's my favorite genre but I can't do it.

It's an adventure game first, with fighting elements. Rather than a fighter with story/aventure elements like the previous Naruto games.

I watched up to around 53 or so long ago when they were new in japan, but why would you want to watch all 80 eps thats told in the game, then straight after replay/rewatch said story?

Even though its been a while for me, i'm interested in recapping the story and finding out the last 27 episodes ingame.

Because I don't want the game to spoil the experience of watching (or reading) it for the first time. I've no doubt it'll be a good game, but the storytelling will almost certainly be inferior to the anime/manga.
 
The whole scene with
Shukaku
at the end is definitely epic. It's been a long time since I've been hyped for anything Naruto. Good job so far Ubi.

indeed. It seems they've done a damn good job on their first attempt at a Naruto game.
 
IGN gave the game a 8.4......but its one of those "IGN Exclusive($$$)" reviews so i would take it another point lower for true score.
