WEKK 3 GAME OF THE WEEK:

BENGALS AT BEARS

Believe it!

This may be true.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Bears D better buckle up and step it up another notch to take on the high powered Bengals offense.

So, time for my patented "Thing I couldn't have been more wrong about":

The Bucs and Cadillac Williams. My bad. Looks like Tampa Bay may actually deserve that NFL logo on their field.

Other thoughts from the NFL weekend I missed as I sit here unable to fall back asleep after passing out from cold medicine haze during the Chiefs-Raiders game:

How did Chicago put up 38 points? It's as though they got too excited and shot their entire load of points for the month all over Detroit in one game.

Cleveland? Really, now? What are the odds that Brett Favre announces his retirement on Wednesday? Has any team ever taken a QB in the first round in two consecutive years? Leinart will be hard to pass up, especially seeing as though the Packers didn't actually want Rodgers and just felt as though they needed to take him because of how far he fell. Should have let him fallen more.

You mean the Vikings actually didn't get better when they traded away the best player at his position for a rookie who wasn't even ranked in the top three at the same position among this year's rookies plus an average at best linebacker? You don't say.

Ricky Williams has a job in three weeks. And whether Miami will have a team at that point, we do not yet know.

I want to go back and find everybody who said the Ravens would win the division and the Steelers would miss the playoffs. I want to, but I'm too lazy.

Fantasy football regret that I felt immediately: I picked Jamal Lewis in the second round and absolutely hated doing so. Now it's coming to week three, and he's playing like he misses prison. I guess being around Ray Lewis is just too scary after you get out of a prison that lets you schedule your stay around when it is convenient for you.

(At this point, I prompty passed out again in my chair. What you see is a slightly cleaned up version of what I typed this morning at 4 AM)

I picked up Jamal in I think 3 leagues this year. The pain. :(

I picked the Ravens to win the division based on last year's performance and the offseason. Guess I was wrong, but it's not like the talent isn't there, I've never seen an Oline underperform so much. :(

I'll continue to eat crow about the Steelers and more specifically BenBurger. Some of my jocking was (somewhat) tongue in cheek, but I will defend my QB and team to the bitter end!

The Vikings are proof positive that you can't just stick good players into a shitty defensive scheme and expect it to work. The Patriots and Redskins prove the opposite. (Well, the Pats not so much this year. ;) ) I think their D coordinator is Ted Catrell, he stunk it up with the Jets.

The Bucs suddenly having an offense is scary. The NFC will be a ton of fun this year.

The Giants are going to own the shit out of the Saints and I will be there to watch it live. :D

Oh and :lol at the 0-2 Chargers. Where are the bandwagon fans now?

And let it be known that the team that I picked to be surprise team of the year, the Cowboys, will be 2-0 at the end of today. I love being right. :)

screw that man i picked up jamal lewis, dante culpepper, andre johnson and the ravens defense all with high to semi-high picks in the 2 leagues im in. thanks a lot assholes!

Embrace the Messiah. I don't see how Ben being one of the best QBs in the NFL makes Eli or the Giants any worse. Your team has it easy in the NFC anyways so any team that is decent will have a chance to go back to the Superbowl every season. I know Vick, Manning, McNabb, and that bastard Brady get all the hype in the NFL, but Ben is one of the few guys in the league who can turn nothing into something and it is only his second year. Of course as soon as the Steelers lose a game the haters will be back, but I could care less as for the first time in 20 years we actually have a qb who can win games for us.

And I knew the Cowboys would be good, the only question I had was about their qb. Anyone who doubts Parcells is an idiot, he is just too good of a coach.

Where's my fork? :(

Way to man up! I have Culpepper in a league, McGahee in two, Jamal Lewis in two.. Andre Johnson in one, Lee Evans in another, etc. etc. My season's basically over in both of them it looks like. :lol

Anyone got an offensive coordinator the Texans can have?

Just heard that the Texans are looking for a new one as they let their's go.

If we go 0-3(nex game is against the Jets after this weeks upcoming bye) I'm dumping my Ravens avatar for the rest of the season, regardless of what else they do.

<sniff> such high hopes... spinning out of control already... All these articles talking about we were a SB contender this year... I never saw it in pre-season... back then I thought we might scrap in to the playoffs... now... it looks like it's going to be a loooong season.

redskins getting ready to beat the everliving shit out of the cowgirls tonight, babies!!! i predict a margin of at least 10+ points!

gibbs 4 ever.

THats right ladies. Remember, a MINIMUM of 180 yards. I guarantee it!

and on defense, our D likes to go after the quarterback...and we're playing Drew Bledsoe. I love that combination.

bledsoe's gonna wish he was still surfing and throwing in san diego after arrington knocks him out a la troy aikman circa 2001. :lol

julius jones who?

Old news?

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/09/19/sports/s104958D99.DTL

The Houston Texans fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer on Monday following the team's second straight embarrassing loss.

Palmer will be replaced by offensive line coach Joe Pendry, according to a source who asked not to be identified because the team had not yet made the announcement. Coach Dom Capers had his regularly scheduled news conference set for later in the day

...

In Sunday's game, quarterback David Carr appeared to be confused and bewildered. He was sacked eight times — the most since the expansion year in 2002 and one shy of the most in the team's 50-game history.

:lol Wow there is incompetence out there worse than the Ravens? Remarkable...

Both teams the Steelers beat were judged to be among the worst in the NFL AFTER the loss. Not that I think the Texans or Titans are good, but a big part of why they looked so shitty was because the Steelers were playing well. I am praying for the streak to continue against Brady and Co. :D

Catching the Patriots after a loss probably isn't the best timing unfortunately... or maybe it is...

This isn't the Pats of the last two years. Their defense is looking vulnerable against the run and pass and that puts too much pressure on their offense. The Pats won almost every big game with their defense and now that it is finally falling apart I thin the dynasty will go with it.

I understand your... zeal... I'm just not sure I read as deeply in to it as you do... still this will be the week you guys play a high calibur team so what better way to judge where you are...

I'm looking at it as more of a test for Roethlisberger more so than the team as a whole since he seemed so befuddled by the Pats D in the AFC championship game. We'll see if he's learned anything since then.

Even if the Steelers end up losing the game, if Ben plays a composed and efficient game in the face of Belichick's defense, I'll be satisfied.

A composed QB? I'm sorry I have no reference point... I haven't seen one of those around here(home team) in ages. ;)

:lol

You know things are bad when some people say that Kordell Stewart is the answer.

My Super Bowl picks after 2 weeks: Panthers vs. Steelers Eagles vs. Bengals. Fear the Bengal! Panthers vs. Steelers Panthers vs. Colts

God, still horribly overrated. When the Bucs win that division im gonna throw a party. :lol

One scapegoat down, a few to go. Getting rid of Palmer may finally spread out our offense a bit...but it doesn't change the crap that is our Offensive line.

32.jpg

5 of these would be better than what we have right now.

Who the f*ck said that? Certainly none of the local press writers who wrote about yesterday's disaster....

Pepsi machine is a receiver, not a lineman.

It was some moron on the local PA talk radio who thought Kordell might be the answer to turn it around in Baltimore. Granted this was in eastern Pennsylvania where it is Eagles country, but that is no excuse for suggesting Kordelia is the answer.

They Ravens need a trade for Trent Dilfer, Quick!

whoa, if the Ravens had a QB as stable as Dilfer who knows how far they could go!

I really can't decide who I want to win tonight. I know I want to see a good game from Eli. Originally I was going to root for whoever looked like had the best chance of getting to the playoffs. I will be literally stunned if the Saints, who have shown absolutely zero mental toughness in the Haslett era since that single playoff win, can overcome all of this stuff and make the playoffs when they couldn't do it when not playing in the shadow of a catastrophic disaster that disrupted every facet of their lives.

Strangely, the whole Saints becoming a national darling thing makes me less likely to cheer for them. One of the few perks of being a Saints fan was the satisfaction of knowing you root for a team with no bandwagon fans. Only true fans continue to subject themselves to watching the Saints week after week. Now everybody wants them to win and the national media actually talk about them. It's just bizarre. Couple that with the near-certainty they are moving permanently, and I almost want to just cut the cord now and not get emotionally invested in a doomed team.

Dood with a QB like Dilfer... we could even dream of maybe some day going... to the SuperBowl! ;)

Well, it's hard for any QB to be stable when his offensive linemen are being flung backwards.

Hell they aren't even getting flung backwards they're getting pushed aside.

Then you could build on that success as a team and land a coveted high profile qb!

Hard not to be excited as a Colts fan right now. The D looks like it could be legit, and it's certainly better than it was last year. The offense looks out of sync, but they'll right that ship within a couple weeks. Bring on the Browns!
