Nameless: I told all my co-workers he would have a monster year before the season started. No one wanted him in their fantasy leagues... Glad I am right. ;)

*But oh so wrong on Daunte Culpepper. I guess it balanced out!

That we can argue over whether he has 2.3 or 2.2 touchdowns per game going into the last week of November just proves the point we were making.

Also, even though the Broncos got some BS calls at the end there, that last one was poor. The ball was not recovered in bounds, the player was lying on the sideline when he gained control. The clock should have stopped. At least that's how I saw it.

Dallas winning kinda sucks, but with a win tomorrow, the Giants can put themselves in a perfect position to get that second bye. If the Cowboys beat us in our next head to head game, we still have a much better divisional record. Though I don't see why we would lose to either the Skins or the Eagles without McNabb (Especially at home).

Getting passed this game, we may get Osi and Strahan back for the battle with Tennessee... though the coaching staff may choose to sit them out. I just want to get somewhat healthy. I want Moss, Osi, and Stra at near full strength. I think Short should be ready soon and Emmons will play tomorrow, so this is good news.

Same here.. I knew we got a super steal as soon as we drafted him. If he doesn't get hurt in college I think he would've been the top running back taken in the 05 draft. Besides, last year he averaged 4.8 yards a carry, too bad Nolan gave Barlow a last chance or 2005 would have been Gore's break out year.

Rushing title is going to be close this year..

Another shit job of playcalling by Shanahan. Sometimes I think this guy just tries too hard to outsmart the other team. You build an early 17 point lead with aggressive defense and a pounding running game, why start tossing it deep to Walker or throwing it up to 45 year old Rod Smith on a fake reverse bomb? 3rd and 4 you just run the ball once or twice and keep the drive going.

:lol @ Oshlanksy or whatever at the end of the game.

Man.. No Mcnabb.. ****

We just gotta roll forward with JGar ( :( ) and see if we can finish respectably with a .500 record.

P.S. LT is the ****ing MAN. I love that the Chargers are my home team and get to be my back-up team

1. I'd like to say that it really sucks about McNabb. He is one of the best players, and it sucks to see him out for the season. Eagles and Skins are my most hated teams. I never like seeing such a crucial player go down like that. I guess it's time for JGar to step up.

2. that fumble and interception were not Romo's fault. On the first drive, Jim Nance said, "Cowboys have not committed a turnover in 11 Quarters". Right then I told my buddy that Jim Nance mother****ing jinxed us.

3. LT is a sexy beast.

4. GO JAGS!

5. I hate Vanderjagt. At this point, I'd rather have Jose Cortez.

FedEx will rape you on a trade. You'll have to give up a third and fourth pick for him, easily.

That's a good point. FedEx plays hardball. If only Cortez went to UPS, we could probably steal him away.

The UUUUUUU stinks so bad, I have to cheer on former players for a buzz :(
. GORE!!!

JGar wont be starting more than one game, if that.

I've got to say, I was ready to give up on the season before this game, but the bengals pulled it out. It's great to see that Chad Johnson's demise was greatly exaggerated, and somehow they managed to pull off some good wins with yet another shitty o-line. They may not make the playoffs this year (since they're a pretty big long shot and have the worst schedule by far of any wild card contenders), but at least on offense, they're looking as good as they were last year and can only get better when the o-line gets healthy next year.

lol as expected ESPN doesn't show us for shit. i watched the blitz for about a half hour. i saw them go over the bears game twice, the patriots game twice, the cowboys/colts game, and a bunch of other bullshit, but no mention of the 49ers being ONE GAME OUT OF FIRST PLACE?? i don't give a **** if our division is shitty, the entire NFC is shitty! why are you talking about the patriots beating up on the packers 35-0? why is that news worthy? it's just a god damn joke. what do we have to do to get some respect? "well beat the 4-3 vikings, they're pissed they just lost to the patriots and they're going to give it their all" we beat them. "well beat the lions, they're on a roll now that they beats the falcons handily". we beat them. "well maybe if you beat the seahawks you could make some noise" we beat them and nothing. im not saying these are awesome teams we're beating, but the patriots aren't beating awesome teams.

whatever though, i guess we won't be noticed until we clinch a playoff berth. even then i bet ESPN would show a 49ers playoff win AFTER they talked about the WNBA free agent signings. stupid east coast media bias. truthfully the playoffs are quite a ways away. we have tough games at st louis, at seattle, at denver, at new orleans.... but still i think it's pretty impressive we are 5-5 and a game out of first considering there were many times our team could have packed it in this year. best of all is that we are a young team and we're only going to get better in the coming years. but like nolan said in the post game, our goal wasn't to just get to 5-5 this year. our goal is to do more than obtain moral victories are just surpass last years win total.

also to maynerd, what say you now? thought you said we weren't dick and were living on our past? i don't think we are a great team, but we went to town on your overrated squad early and often today. i suppose you can make the excuse that you had a backup qb playing, and alexander just got back, but that doesn't explain both of your lines being demolished all game long.

We made the blitz as the final highlight. Actually I think this was the first time Boomer/TJ actually did a niner highlight this year..usually the sportscenter anchor quickly goes over our game. But they didn't show Alex's TD pass nor half of Gore's great runs, but it was a TAD longer than the usual 10second highlights we get. Or in the case of Primetime last week we where got NO highlight! But yeah, I was like WTF when they covered the Pats/Pack game for a good 3 minutes, and showed pretty every ****in TD Pass Brady threw..or how they went over the Bears/Jets game though nothing happened nothing happened. Boomer gave us some props of course, though..and I think TJ said something nice too.

I think part of it is that the Niners constantly prove that ESPN analyst don't know shit. The past three weeks all 8 guys have picked agianst us on ESPN.com, the initial ESPN power rankings had us dead last!, and on that bull shit "depth chart" feature we got picked as the worst team overall. Not to mention they said we wouldn't be able to run or throw the ball this year, and we got no respect what so ever.

Whats really ****ed up though, is that Alex isn't getting the props he deserves. He is having a season on par with Eli and Carson in their second seasons, yet ESPN isn't giving him his due even though they blew their load over the other two. No to mention Alex doesn't have half the talent around him that those two did. But they were quick to bring up Alex's 1TD/11int rookie season everytime they got a ****in chance.

The ESPN format for NFL coverage this year is borked.

Boom and TJ are a great duo, but The Blitz and Monday Night Countdown is boring as hell. NFL Primetime for the previous few decades whooped all kinds of butt.

Meanwhile Stuart Scott is still a boring one-note pony, but somehow he's even worse on Primetime. Add to that the poor way of showing highlights for a game and you have an ESPN package that has taken numerous steps back from where it was last season.

I'll elaborate on the highlights - rather than go through the game bit by bit like Primetime used to, now we have those focused showings of various marqee players for the entire game, then they go back to the start of the game and focus on some other player, usually TO or Michael Vick. Totally kills the momentum of the coverage.

The only thing better this season is the MNF intro song. Very cool.

edit - oh and also you often don't get ANY highlights for the "lesser" games during the weekend. WTF is this shit? I've hardly ever seen any Bills highlights on Primetime, even if those highlights involve us getting owned. Some would say that JP throwing a pick after the ball bounced off an o-lineman's head is a highlight. Hell I would too. I want to see it.

QFT

ESPN is really cheating fans with their current format. They usually have 3-4 games which they dedicated half, if not all of a segment to. Not only do they do the extended highlights, but then spend another 3-5 minutes analyzing or injecting their opinions. This slights the "minor" games, which is unfair. I don't have sunday ticket, so I used to enjoy when they gave each game a considerable amount of highlight time. There are tons of great plays and noteworthy performances that they don't even show or mention. They'll show 1 play and then flash the score..And then go back to talking about one of the "big/hyped games" which they just spent 7minutes on. And as you brought up, some games they won't cover at all. Boomer and TJ being apart of SC now are also suffering. Hell, their "prime-cuts" or extended highlights are how long the average highlight used to be.

I can sorta see the need to do that on SC(though it was fine in the past) seeing that there are other sports. But Primetime and NFL Live follow the same format. With a handful of games taking up more than half the show. I don't give a **** about all of the manufactured storylines that ESPN likes to come up with, and then exploit, or romanticized performances from ESPN's A-List atheletes. Show me the highlights. Every game should have a 2-3 minute highlight PERIOD!

In the good ole days. Primetime was for strictly highlights, NFL Live is where they would let the "Experts" break down and voice their opinions on the games, or where they would key in on a specific performances, game, or team. And Edge NFL Match-up and Monday Countdown is where you would get the X/Os breakdowns etc.. Each show had a purpose and a focal point. Now its like the same crap over and over.

Just getting home from the Balt/ATL game.... what a friggin turnaround.... offense went from being completely asleep at the wheel to being on fire.... and Jamal 3 rushing TD's in one game? Can't remember when that last happened.... and now here comes Pitt... so looking forward to that game. :D

You may thank our special teams meltdown/PJ Sams for your offenses great turnaround. Our defense finally shows up from the start and how does our special teams repay them.....give the other team a really short field. :\

Good win for you guys but that should have been a lot closer than it was.

If that's how your offense shows up from the start, you guys really are in trouble. Even with terrible first half offense, and suspect defense in the first half... you only scored 7 points.

I'm gonna have to agree with Nameless and EAJapan. I was just telling a coworker that I was waiting to see the Lee Evans receptions and they just never came on. So what if it is Houston and Buffalo, they still have fans out there.

I'm glad I have Sunday ticket. Saw good portions of the Stl/Car, Jets/Bears, and Titans/Eagles games in the early slot then caught the Dallas/Indy, and SF/Sea games in the afternoon.

Niner fans I have been saying for the longest time that ESPN was pure garbage. They stopped trying to cover sports for awhile now. ESPN is only concerned with a few stars and stupid drama like TO.

But with the internet we don't need ESPN anymore.

Ummm....I said our DEFENSE finally showed up from the start. I didn't expect our offense to accomplish a whole lot against the Ravens.

Steelers will show how you take apart the Ravens defense on Sunday (with or without Hines Ward).

And I never ever like to see players on the other team get injured, except when it is Baltimore. The Steelers/Ravens game always results in a few injuries to key players late in the season. Now it is time for payback!

UGH, left 42 points on the table in the GAF league due to not starting Carolina or Chester Taylor. Who could have guessed the Rams would get shut out?! Detroit going up against Arizona and Jones manages 8 yards?! Dammit.. here's to hoping Plax gets almost no yards tonight but manages to fumble the ball once or twice.

My bad, these new contacts must be clouding my vision. Our offensive penalties in the 1st half contributing just a wee bit to the problems we had. I certainly wouldn't pin it all on your defense.

Hines Ward has done most of your damage to us. You're probably going to want him playing. I'm actually more concerned about him than I am about Willie.

There's truth to that but in our past two games, we got smoked from the beginning of the game and then decided to play D somewhat in the second half. Like I said, our special teams was the biggest letdown. :\

At least in the crazy ass NFC, we are still only a game out of the division lead and wildcard spot. :lol

Indianapolis at Dallas (I don't know if I believe it, but I have nightmares in my head of TO giving interviews on how Dallas accomplished the impossible and talking about the discipline it took, Parcells being hoisted up, and Tony Romo being called the future of Dallas and getting even more press... I hope this never comes to light.)

Just quoting these evil premonitions.

"After ending the Colts' perfect season, it's obvious that the Cowboys finally have a Bill Parcells defense, writes Len Pasquarelli"

"Clutching the game ball in one hand, Tony Romo reached over with his other and gave Peyton Manning a consolatory pat on the helmet."

Wuss!

I was reading the Giants MB and they were complaining that LDT gets so much face time and that Tiki is a better back... :lol! Even as a homer and the biggest Tiki fan there is, there is no doubt that LDT is the absolute best running back in the league today, if not ever. 8300+ rushing yards and 2800+ receiving yards in his 6th year? Absolutely bananas.

You guys should watch Football Night in America. It's a way better show than anything ESPN is putting out. They even talked up the 49ers and mentioned that they are only one game out of first place.

As for LT, barring injuries he will probably end his career as the greatest running back to ever play. I like the guy too, he has respect for the game and the players that paved the way. He was very considerate of Jim Brown after beating his and Emmit Smiths record as the quickest player to reach 100 TDs.

The only bad thing about Football Night in America is that it starts at, what, 7:00 PM? The late games are usually still going on at that point and I would much rather watch live games then recaps of early games.

"I think you're correct. And it worries me a little bit because my son is the head coach down there, you know? He's a great athlete, my son likes him a lot, he's a good kid. But he's not a passer. And you need a passer at quarterback to be successful consistently in the National Football League. And he ain't gettin' it done in that category." — Former Colts and Saints head coach and current NFL Network analyst Jim Mora, on FOX Sports Radio last week, when asked if Michael Vick is a "coach-killer".

:lol

They normally do the full recaps after or around 7:30.

"Coach-killer"??? He hasn't even killed one coach yet besides the QB coaches. Dan Reeves got killed by the Doug Johnson and Kurt Kittner show with special guest, Peerless Price.

I don't think a hyperextended knee will keep Ward out of the game. He grew up without an ACL (or daddy) and still became the Superbowl XL MVP and the receiver I would trust most with the game on the line (and until this year the guy with the best hands).

Hope nothing. Steelers are going to make the AFC North interesting by winning out and handing humiliating defeats to the rest of the division in the process.

And you think those new bifocal contacts you are wearing are making things blurry? Just wait until you see the final score on Sunday, the tears that will ensure are going to make things even worse.

The only other mod that reads this topic regularly is iapetus and I am sure he would not mind this. From ESPN Insider:

Earlier this week, our scouts filed their advance scouting report on this week's matchup between the Giants and Jaguars. Now they're back with a second look.

It looks like Eli Manning is beginning his midseason slump like he did last year and has seen his completion percentage drop to 59 percent for the first time this year. When a quarterback seems to be having difficulty, most teams look to their ground game to help him out.

Tiki Barber is the leading rusher and is averaging over 100 yards per game, and if you include Brandon Jacobs in the mix, the Giants are a powerful running team, especially when they are second in the NFL with 41 runs of over 10 yards. They need to run the ball at least 25-30 times a game and take the game out of Manning's hands until he settles down.

• The Giants struggled on third down against the Bears and face another good third down defense in Jacksonville. The Giants are converting 40.2 percent of their third downs, but that stat is misleading, if you take out their short yardage production, they are only converting 33.6 percent on third down.

Manning has been inconsistent on this critical down and is next to last in the league with a dismal QB rating of 50. He is completing just 46 percent of his passes, while being sacked eight times and throwing six interceptions. Opposing teams are forcing the Giants into longer yardage situations on third down and are bringing more pressure to get at Manning.

• The Jaguars will take a page out of the Bears' playbook by sticking with the run, even though they are going up against a good Giants' run defense. The Jags have two solid backs in Fred Taylor and Maurice Drew-Jones, who have combined for over a 1,000 yards this season with both averaging over four yards a carry.

By sticking with the run, the Jaguars will wear out the thin Giants' front seven, as they have depth issues that do not allow them to get their players enough rest, especially when their offense cannot convert on third down.

• Giants coordinator Tim Lewis will look to bring down a safety on first down to take away the Jaguars running game, as they run the ball 60 percent of the time. Lewis will have to make a decision on whether to bring in his nickel package or stay in his base defense when the Jags go to their three-wide receiver package early in the down.

By going with his nickel package, it gives Lewis more flexibility in his play calling with the extra defensive back, because he can run his zone and man dog pressure packages by bringing McQuarters off the slot to stop the run and get pressure on Garrard. Lewis does not have that flexibility if he stays in his base defense.

• The Jaguars must stop the run and force Manning into long-yardage passing situations by playing an eight man front against the run. They will bring strong safety Donovin Darius down in the box to help stop the run. If the Giants use backup guard Rich Seubert as a tight end, look for the Jags to set their front to him and roll Darius down his way.

The backside of the Jaguars' defense must be on alert, because of the bootleg threat the Giants have with Shockey backside. The Giants are a power running football team that likes to pull their guards on perimeter running plays. The Jaguars will need to do a good job of containing the off-tackle run with good edge force.

• If the Jaguars can run the football effectively on first down and get to manageable second down yardage situations, this will force the Giants to play more eight man front defenses that will put single coverage on the outside lanes.

The Giants could be without starting corner Sam Madison this week and this will have an impact on an already banged up unit. The Jaguars are not the most efficient offense throwing the football, but will have to take some chances Monday night off play action to keep the Giants' secondary honest and on its toes.

Special Teams
The Giants gave backup running back Derrick Ward the opportunity to return kicks against the Bears and Ward did a good job, averaging 21.7 yards per return which is a better than what Chad Morton was giving the team. Morton will continue to return punts on a unit that is ranked 25th in the NFL, averaging 7.6 yards a return.

Giant's punter Jeff Feagles is a directional punter who does an excellent job of pinning the returner to the sideline, giving little or no return yardage. The coverage units for the Giants are both in the top 10 when it comes to covering punts and kickoffs, allowing 7.1 and 21.1 yards respectfully.

You would think that the Jaguars, with a defensive head coach, would have better special teams. Del Rio knows the key to success when your offense is average is to get good field position with your special teams and defense.

Both the Jaguars' return units are in the bottom half of the league with the punt return team ranked 21st and the kick return team ranked 31st. By having the kickoff return team doing a poor job, it puts pressure on the offense to go the long field to score. The Jags' offense is 21st in the league in scoring on drives of 60+plus yards or more. That is why field position is so important.

Matchups
• New York CB Corey Webster vs. Jacksonville WR Reggie Williams
• New York TE Jeremy Shockey vs. Jacksonville OLB Clint Ingram
• New York DT Fred Robbins vs. Jacksonville RG Chris Naeole
• Jacksonville LDE Bobby McCray vs. New York RT Kareem McKenzie
• Jacksonville CB Brian Williams vs. New York WR Tim Carter

Scouts' Edge
The Giants will need to rebound after the Sunday night loss to the Bears, a game that they should have won if it wasn't for poor coaching and a struggling Eli Manning. Tom Coughlin will have his team fired up to play his former team and they will take the frustration of Sunday night's loss out on the struggling Jaguars.

Coughlin will stick with the running game this week and should get Jacobs the ball more. The Jaguars do not have enough weapons on offense and will not make enough plays to stay close with the Giants.

Prediction: Giants 20, Jaguars 17

However, most of the Giants' beat writers are picking the Jags.

Looking at our schedule ahead.. Bucs will be lucky to get 5 wins this year. :lol We should beat the Browns and hopefully the Falcons.. couple toss-ups in there as well, but I imagine we'll fall apart in the 4th and give it away.

Couldnt watch the game yesterday as they've moved to broadcasting Falcons games here since we're so bad this season. :lol Sounds like Michael Clayton dropped a number of balls again.. ugh, what the hell happened to this guy? =(

That about sums it up. Urlacher's INT really, really hurt. Looks like our D has found a nice little comfort zone though, which bodes well.

The Steelers win 2 games and you grow a sac again and start talking shit to everybody in ear distance. Marvelous.

Also another boneheaded ref call (overturning the right call, no less) against the Jets this week.
