Lol, Jansen is my favorite side character so far.
Anyway, composite magic, will the level 2/3/ etc be learnt with accessories? Since there's no mortal that seem to learn it.

TOTALLY!Disc 3 is OMG INCREDIBLE.
TheDuce22 said:What? The reviews of this game are insane. Does it turn to crap at some point? The gametrailers review was the most accurate assuming it keeps up the standard it set in the first 5 hours.

Had my first laught out loud moment at Jansen during the scene. I love that guy! :lolSkilletor said:lol @ the intro scene with Cooke and Mack. I thought I was going to hate them. Glad that's not the case![]()
Those are short stories, very short stories. They do not constitute long reading.Jimmy Stav said:Dude, as good as the stories are, I can completely understand not wanting to do any long reading when playing a game.

Isn't shit being narrated to you the reason that Xenogears disc 2 is so disliked?Hellraizer said:Then you must have hated every RPG ever in history before the PS2/cube/Box era![]()

Wait, it hit me... a nice tactic! Spam Flare on that mofo!

Teknoman said:I dont think that first boss is named that :lol
Anyway i'll give you a few clues, figure out the rest. Find a way to completely nullify poison for both Seth and Kaim. Read the manual to figure out the easiest way to kill most monsters/enemies, and craft some hot rings for Seth and Kaim.
EDIT: lol I see you caught on beforehand. Also elemental rings help out ALOT. This game is pretty much the same as FFIV or the Megami Tensei games as far as elements go. The weakness of the monsters really REALLY affect the tide of battle.
I don't feel like those stories are any longer than some good dialog in a old RPG, and if it ads to the atmosphere of the game, why not reading it? And if people dont like them, well they dont need to read them...Skilletor said:Isn't shit being narrated to you the reason that Xenogears disc 2 is so disliked?
I love the game, but these stories totally take me away from the game. If I want to read a book, I'll read a book. In fact, I would like to read this book. Just not while I'm playing the game.
Edit no Jutsu: The Crimson Forest looks fucking amazing. The lighting is so good!
Teknoman said:Also people still need to read the stories to get everything around Kaim and Seth. Dont skip em, at least try a few stories. The music, sound effects, and graphics behind em really help not to yank you out of the game.
I was in the exact same situation, the answer is yes.dirtmonkey37 said:I got DMC4 two weeks ago and have yet to beat Mass Effect. Question: Is LO good enough to warrant getting it within two weeks of my last videogame purchase?
I could go out and grab it tomorrow with yet another gift certificate I have in my drawer.

I never thought I'd encounter a jrpg that had status effects that actually meant harm that wasn't SMT. These enemies in the Black Cave are fucking annoying.
BenjaminBirdie said:So, I've gotten to the Crimson Forest and my thoughts about the game are starting to coalesce.
I'll put my cards on the table, I have only ever finished two RPGs: FF VII and FFX and only played more than a few hours of Blue Dragon, FF VIII, and original Wild Arms.
So obviously I don't come in to this as a storied RPG historian or any kind of expert. But I do still have, from my limited exposure to the medium, a massive affinity for the genre.
That being said, this game is really Final Fantasy X but better in pretty much every conceivable way.
I loved FFX and played the ass out of it, but this is just an immesurably better experience. In terms of story and characters it's more accessible and mature, and terms of the party, their reasons for coming together are extremely well done. And I'd expect that's going to pay dividends as the game goes on. You can't get much better motivation in battle than the dynamic between Kaim, Cooke, and Mack.
Emotionally it's also got such a fantastic foundation. Although it's played out through pretty much every Dream, Kaim's "life" experience is such a great theme for a protagonist and it really drove the more emotional moments of Disc One.
Visually, well, let's hope that either the towns improve graphically or we just don't see as many of them, because the "dungeon" environments like the Sea and Crimson Forest, are spectacular looking. The character models of the protagonists are also just amazing. As ridiculously Bedazzled as he is, even Tolten is a great looking design. A lot of this is thanks of course to Inoue's absolutely great work all down the line. Specifically, the game nailed the way he draws eyes, and the modeling of them was totally perfect (I've always found eye models to be really distracting [see: Gears] in more realistic game design.)
The Skill and Ring setup is also exceptionally done, to the point where when he's not healing Jensen is my go-to thief. Because I love those rings, brother. And the game is also really great at giving you just enough stuff to learn at any given point and you hardly ever feel that you have too much or too little available.
So, I haven't even really gotten my feet wet, but, yeah, I loved Blue Dragon. And this is about seven hundred times the better game.

i heard this game just comes packaged in a paper envelope w/ a piece of bubble wrap, for the US.
Himuro said:I wouldn't say it's better than FFX yet. If it's better than FFX, that means it's better than FFVII and VI for me. It's definitely better than I-V, IX, XI, and XII though. Then again, I have yet to beat the game! But still, those 4 games are classics in my opinion and it'll be hard to top them.
My problem with the game is mostly the story. I like it a lot but right now, where I am, I have no clue why I'm going to this country I'm heading to. I forgot why. With FFX, you always had one goal the entire game: get to Zanarkand, in this, I'm kinda wondering what my goal is. Maybe I just need a fresh reminder.
Another problem I have is the ring system. It's nice, but it'd be even better if it were more fleshed out. I think all skills should have a time based system infused with them. For something like Cut Down, they should have included something like Tidus' limit breaks in FFX, where you have to time something in the middle, and if you make it, you hit all targets. For something like Mack's Combo move, they should have opted for hitting two Rings in a row to determine the damage. I think they should have infused the rings more into the battles like in say, Shadow Hearts, is all.
Also, while I think the Immortal -> Mortal system is great, I think they give WAY too many mages. 4 is too many. All you really need is a black mage, a white mage, and a spirit mage (aka Mack). So that's really just 2 mages. I guess that's apart of the reason why Ming and Sarah are my least favorite characters so far.
There's a lot of kinks they could have done that would propel this game from merely being GREAT to AMAZING. Still though, this is, by a wide margin, the best next gen rpg I've played (an no I haven't played Oblivion yet...well, I have, but not for long).
