I've been avoiding looking at Canada's roster 'cause I'd know it would make me anxious. A big WTF to the ones in bold. Damned, the players that are missing would make another Gold metal contender.

And sure Mike Green (Caps) should have gotten a spot over Seabrook... (or one of the others)? Hell, even Campbell (same team). Of course, none of it will matter if we win :D

Also, isn't Niedermayer having a terrible season? And he's captain to boot.

Get that shit out of here.

Did Pepsi actually bail on their advertising? I thought this would rear its ugly head again during the Olympics, but I haven't seen a single thing. I wonder if they were hoping to generate enough interest during the WJCs and have it transfer organically to the Olympics.

http://www.winnipegsun.com/news/columnists/paul_turenne/2010/02/09/12801836.html

But be hopeful, my friends, as there is evidence the cheer has already seen its time in the sun come and go.

During the gold-medal game at the World Junior Hockey Championship last month, when the chips were all on the table and the game was on the line, our new national cheer was nowhere to be heard, in its place the ever-familiar and infinitely superior "Go Canada Go!"

It's simple, it gets the point across, and it's as close to a national cheer as we've ever had. Plus, we invented it ourselves.

Screw the new cheer.

Go Canada Go.
Preach it.

So apparently Pepsi DID plant people in the stands to shout the cheer and try and spread the cheer among the crowd.

Also, "Cheer Nation" only received 90,000 participants, no where near close to that million they pursued.

We cannot afford Canada losing. I'm being literal here. We just cannot fucking afford fixing downtown after the riot considering the city's financial situation due to the Olympics.

Please, for all that is holy, let Canada win Gold.

Haha, you know there's gonna be a riot either way. Canada's hockey performance just determines how happy of a riot it is.

Every non-Canadian reading your post will think your joking despite your "being literal" disclaimer.

As a fellow Canadian, I would just like to say HE IS DEAD SERIOUS. I know this is going to sound ridiculous to everyone, but we would have a national depression if Canada doesn't win Gold. Not even the financial kind - the emotional kind, although maybe even a mini-financial kind when 30,000,000 are pissed off and disappointed for the entire next day. Maybe even week.

They are hyping up the hockey games here in Canada, its gold or nothing. I've said it since day one. Canada could come last in every event and nobody would blink an eye as long as Team Canada wins gold.

The womens pool is going to be incredible this year. US and Canadian teams are fantastic, and the games they have play this year have been great.

Vetter is the business.

The swiss actually dont look bad on paper, and if Hiller can stand on his head to try and negate their lack of scoring, they are going to do alright. I see the US finishing about where they did in Turin (7th i believe right? Cause Canada was 6th) but i think their main focus is 2014, where i think they are going to be on par with Canada and the Russians. Way to many young guys on that team that are going to be awesome.

For us, it all comes down to goaltending i think... We are going to have more then enough scoring, the D will play well, but we need either Luo or Brodeur to really step it up.

I can only hope for a Canada Russia final... that might be the most watched winter olympic event ever.

Carter? :lol

Why not Stamkos, StLouis or Vinny?

Carter is better than all three. Tournament MVP all but confirmed. He will lead us to victory while Crosby will be benched for being incompetent. Rise to heaven Carter.

If Getzlaf can go than Richards will be tournament MVP. Flyers have a habit of winning the award.

I'm conflicted. I'm not sure my love for Yzerman and Babcock outweighs my hate for Crosby, Niedermayer, Pronger, Getzlaf and just Canada in general when it comes to international hockey. Don't know if I can wish for their complete and utter failure like I usually do.
Sweden-Canada final with Sweden winning it in OT on a Crosby giveaway while Pronger accidentally elbows Niedermayer in the face would be the perfect scenario.

Regardless. GO GO GO OLYMPIC HOCKEY. It's gonna be a ton of fun to watch, so many superstars. Just wish it was played on big ice surface sine I've always thought that was one of the best things about the tournament, seeing superstars like Ovechkin given some extra space to work their magic.

Yeah he's terrible this year, is the American depth really that bad?

I think I remember reading or watching something that said that Team Canada was trying to build the roster with guys that will play any line any position. Generalists that can score. Versus say mega super offensive specialists like Team Russia.

Hate to say it, but Russia is huge this year. Would love to see them go for Gold. Exciting players on that team. Team Canada needs more Savard/Green loving, without that... not excited enough. Thankfully Sid/Jarome/JoeT are keeping me optimistic. Canada VS Russia final would be too epic.

pringles said:

They needed a leader on that team who had been involved in Olympic Hockey, Drury while terrible this year has always been know as a strong captain.

And how could you as a Canadian possibly be cheering for Russia and Ovechkin? I mean atleast go small country underdog like the Swiss if you are going to act crazy :D .

Ugh the USA team is so weak. No real scoring threats outside out Kane and maybe Parise. Wtf happened to Gionta? Fricken sucks now can't even make this weak ass team? Also Miller has been suckin these past few weeks so I'm worried about him. Hopefully Quick can do well JIC. Tim Thomas is lol this year.

My prediction is:

Gold: Russia
Silver: Canada
Bronze: Sweden

I think US has an outside chance of bronze. It'll probably be Sweden vs USA in the bronze if they can play well, but chances are they'll lose before that. Can't really be excited at all for any of their players. He international ice is big and they won't be able to keep up with the Russias and th Czechs. Still will be fun to watch. Will be rooting for USA all the way.

Canada's offense is downright scary. 4 straight lines of top scorers. Maybe they dont have the edge on the top line but their isnt a line which cannot score and dominate.
