Just noticed the models in the character customization in the OP only differ in headgear and color; can you change outfits in PS0 also?

There is no written chat option for random match. You can only use preset messages which cannot be changed for random match with other people
Written chat option AND preset messages is in for FC only

Yeah, you need a scapedoll. It'll revive you when you die.xfactor said:another is that there's nothing to bring me back to full life when i died on the battlefield and respawn in town.
CurseoftheGods said:Wtf. That's fucking horrible. I hope they change that for the US release.
You just described the original PSO! Hype +1000xfactor said:fine...but this is my first phantasy star game though so pardon me

Wow. This game is awesome. Feels like I'm playing PSO on my Dreamcast except with shitty 3D. Do want.
It's really good DS 3D for what it's worth. Can't wait to play this in English. The DS sure could use an analogue nub for these types of games, though.
He played a couple of random games online, but he has already seen people with infinite meseta and health and various other hacks like turbo speed. I hope cheaters don't ruin the game for the rest of us.![]()

They could have at least lessened day one cheats by encrypting the save file and using some data validation for memory values to avoid flashcart-based cheats. But due to the FC system I don't think they saw cheat-protection as a serious problem.kiryogi said:No way cheating of this scale can be avoided unless it was hosted and controlled server side. Id just watch who you play with
Due to some stupid design choices, WiFi on the DS actually uses a reasonable amount of resources. Combined that with a complex 3D game and you don't have much CPU left to compress/decompress voice messages.Teknoman said:Why didnt they use the DS mic? Kinda pointless to have a mic built into your system and only use it once or twice.
omg rite said:I played PSU at launch, but was disappointed.
Have the updates made it better?
One of my main problems was that they ruined the combo system. In PSO, you had to press the attack button at a specific point at the end of each hit in the combo to trigger the next combo. In PSU, at launch at least, you could literally just mash the button. There was no timing needed at all.
Also, magic was completely useless, unlike PSO, where magic played a big part.
And the overworld felt too needlessly big, though I'm sure that's not something they can fix.

I can't really talk about techs. I have very little experience with them in PSO and PSU. As for the "overworld" it still is needlessly large and the mission counters are still all separated. The planet/city layouts and the item synthesis/item selling mechanic are PSU's biggest flaws. And by big I mean HUGE.Also, magic was completely useless, unlike PSO, where magic played a big part.

No offense, but maybe you should have your eyes checked. A powerful prescription like mine should clear things up for ya.bounchfx said:side by side this looks leagues better than the PSP PSO, Blue Burst.
Hostile Paradox said:Ambition of the Illuminus, the expansion, has changed a few things since launch. Regular updates have also affected the game heavily. Currently, hunters don't mash buttons anymore because the combat system has enhanced. There's a new system in place called "Just Attack." If you time the button presses just right you're guaranteed a critical hit each strike after the first with striking weapons. It even makes use of the hard attack sound effect from PSO and has a small visual cue. Then there's "Just Counter" that works for all weapon types. If your character blocks an attack (if it has a decent/high Evasion stat) you can immediately perform an attack that is a guaranteed critical hit.

FYI, because of the different planets the missions are scattered and you rarely will find players playing the original missions (people generally call them PSU ver. 1 missions). Plus, those missions' rewards are terrible (almost never over 100 mission points and barely any meseta).omg rite said:Ah, wow. Thanks. Looks like I might be picking up PSU again. The overworld thing sucks (I just miss the small simply ship of PSO -- they could have expanded on that of course, but not like they did in PSU), but I might be able to look by that. The battle system bothered me the most, but it sounds more like PSO now.
Couple more questions (sorry for turning this into a PSU thread, haha):
a) How much is the monthly sub now? I forgot what it was or if it changed.
b) Is it hard to get into at this point in the game or no?
Hostile Paradox said:Also, I was going to PM you but I made this post in case someone else would be interested in this info. If you played the Xbox 360 version then your only way to get the expansion is off the Xbox Live Marketplace. Its currently 800 Microsoft Points; used to be 1600 when I got it.
CTLance said:Guys, why are y'all talking about PSU and other shit in this PS0 thread? =/
More PS0 goodness, less of the PSP/PS0 wars and OT PSU babble please.

Yeah you can. Just call XBL customer support. I don't play much anymore but a friend of mine does that all the time.sprocket said:Man I actually like PSU when it came out. Im tempted to buy the expansion on XBL but i hate that you just cant cancel your sub. sometimes there are months when i am unable to play.
Hostile Paradox said:Edit: PS0 sounds like PSO with the best aspects of PSU included (strafing and photon arts).

Welcome back PSO! All is forgiven Sega.
