Official PSP Minis Thread

I've just won a code to download Monster (probably) Stole my Princess via Twitter.
(Thanks mediatonic !!!!)

The game is really great, very "score attack-ish". I like it so far. It's pretty short, but it got the "just one more and I stop" syndrome :)

I got my review copy today as well. Story mode took me 20min, but the real game is in the Score Attack and unlocking awards.

Pretty awesome so far.
 
No one is playing Freekscape at all? Harsh. It's a pretty good game, although I'm stuck at the leap of faith part.

It is a really good game, but at the same time, too hard. Everyone that plays it seems to be stuck fairly early on...

I went through the first bundle of stages collecting all the pepers and stuff fairly easy. Just stuck on "Comfortably Thrown", and "Flyin' In The Reign". Since it's a diverging path I think I can do the first one, but it's taking some time.

It's possible, although some games don't seem to recognize the save game data. For example, Echoes on PS3 doesn't recognize the save game I've transferred over from PSP. Some other games do work, though.

In the end, I've decided to play Minis almost exclusively on the PSP, to avoid this issue.
 
I didn't think too highly of Alien Zombie Death initially...not exactly the best looking or sounding game I've played (although I'm not sure what to expect from Minis either, since this is really the first one apart from Pinball Fantasies that I've played). But once I got into it I was completely hooked! Very addictive, easy to pick up and controls work great on PSP. :)

I think you can pretty much say that about all the ones from Sony.

I really don't know what they are thinking, flooding the market with all that crap. They are both taking money away from smaller developers that probably need sales, as well as hurting the Mini brand.
 
Anyone else's copy of Hysteria Porject have clicking audio?

Do you think the
character you're playing as died
? In the epliogue thing in the main menu it tells you that
a body was found with the same markings visible on the player character. But the police report says that person died of a heart attack, and the professor's notebook says those rats they experimented on that took those nano-machines also died from a heart attack. Maybe the killer gave the character some nano-machines? It's pretty easy to assume the killer is the professor, but assuming who was killed other than that girl, is a bit difficult.

IGN seemed to think it was OK. Is it kind of like those old electromechanical baseball games that were popular in the arcades in the 1960s and 1970s? That's the impression I got from IGN's review.

I don't really mind the tiny games from Sony so much, I just wish most of them were higher quality. Apparently someone out there must like them, as they keep making them.

To be honest, I feel that having so many of these "PSP only" Minis that aren't playable on PS3 are doing more harm to the brand. When it was just Tetris and 3D Bowling (both from EA) that were not playable on PS3, the consensus was that those would be the only two exceptions, and all Minis going forward would be playable on both systems. But recently Sony themselves started making several Minis that are not playable on PS3. Quality aside (as that's a matter of opinion), it's scary to see the number of "PSP only" Minis starting to approach double digits, and confusing the market further.

Yeah, I watched a video of it on youtube, seems exactly like one of those. But I'm not sure how many people really want to play one of those. And heck, I'm almost 40, I've never even seen one of those machines except in a movie (The 13th Floor)

(Amusingly, just like the PSP version of The Show, it doesn't have umpires, either)

I dunno about the first batch, but the second one is part of Sony Japan's version of the minis program

I guess they just made a whole bunch just for launch, rather than because people wanted them.

Anyway, I guess that article also explains why they don't work on the PS3 - most are designed to be played on a single PSP with two players, which wouldn't exactly work on a PS3. But I agree with your point. Maybe they should come up with a "Micro" line, which are even smaller and only work on the PSP, while Minis work on both?

Seems like my usb stick wasn't making a good connection. I've now transfered my rocket racing savegame successfully to PSP.
 
Anyone pickup that GTA sounding game from this week's titles? I have CTW so if it's top down then I'm good with that I've got.
 
PSP Minis are possibly my favourite 'thing' to have emerged this gen. It's been 25 years since I could buy games at £2.99 - £3.99. The only problem is I'm seriously thinking of buying all of them and then keeping up with new ones on a week by week basis. Blast Off, Cubixx and
Ice Road Truckers, honestly!
alone have given me hours of entertainment.
 
Looks like Halfbrick either has another Mini in the works, or needed to change the name of Rocket Racing.

The ESRB has something from them called "Aero Racer", but the description sounds exactly like Rocket Racing. Indeed, it is the same description.

This is a futuristic top-down racing game in which players fly rockets around a track in space. Players must "wall-boost" their way around circuits to beat timed challenges, checkpoint courses, and other ships.

VT Tennis looks nice, too bad that Hot Shots Tennis is coming so soon.

Also, it's been finally confirmed that The Flying Hamster is a Minis title.
 
Apparently VT Tennis is Rafael Nadal (something like that) Tennis with the license removed. So basically a full game made into a mini. But yeah, really bad timing on their part with HST on the way at the same time.

OTOH, Block Cascade Fusion was just dated for Europe. June 2nd.

Could be an okay replacement for those that can't play Lumines. Seems sort of like it, except 3 colors, not two. And the playing field is more vertical.

There are dates for Laughing Jackal's stuff in the US

I know the reviewer on PSNStores didn't like Stellar Attack, but I really loved it myself (gave it a 9/10 on PSPMinis) and can't wait to buy it.

And they also have a new Mini in the works: Ace Armstrong vs the Alien Scumbags. Seems like a mix of Alien Zombie Death with the humor of Age of Zombies...and thankfully, minus the zombies.

The latter. I emailed them about it. They are going to put out a press release sometime soon.
 
According to the Facebook page, PSPMinis.com is in some trouble with viruses, and has the potential to shut down for good. That would be a pretty large blow to the platform imo, as it was the only outlet that covered the games in any meaningful way.

I dunno if I'd go that far. kassatsu's site covers them pretty well, too, so does Pocket Gamer. (We don't even get review copies :D )

But I don't think that Facebook page is run by the guy who runs the site (Chris). And Chris hasn't said anything to me. Indeed, he was having a problem with a contributor, someone kept stealing the accounts that he bought the games on, and that guy got kicked out. I think that is the guy that runs the Facebook page.

Wow! Gamemaker is a great tool for making small or indie games. PSP access would be amazing (unless it's just an SDK for approved developers...)

Speaking of that it popped into the PSP Top 10 recently. I can't imagine that their costs were anything high, so I imagine they're making some (meager) money from it. I found it interesting enough to get their next episode.

Well, the catch is, you have to win the competition (or do really well in it, I guess) to actually have it make it to the PSP as a Mini. Until then, you just sort of simulate it on PC, by having the screen the size of the PSPs and only a few keys + arrow keys (for the d-pad)

They already had their first competition already, some are pretty decent.

i watched the trailer and my friends' band is inexplicably listed as being one of the featured artists :lol kind of want to check it out for that reason alone, but i dunno...
 
Recommended: Cubixx.

Had good 30 minutes with this so far, over the course of a day and a half. Worth it.

That list is probably a good go-by, I haven't bought a Mini since Tetris and Brain Pipe.
 
Hmm I purchased Monsters Probably Stole my Princess... it was pretty okay. It was pretty much a game that I would expect to play in Flash or Newgrounds or something.

Not overly impressed, I wish I would've just pocketed that money and instead purchased Pixeljunk Monsters or Patchwork Heroes. In fact, that's usually how I feel about all PSP Mini games. It's better just to go ahead and buy a much better PSN game.
