Official PSP Minis Thread

From what I understand, the 17th would be the date (even though the firmware is currently available). At that time, some minis would work and for those that don't, you'd just need to re-download them.

Well, thanks! I suppose I can assume the re-download is for free?

Just saw this from the EU blog:

However, we recommend that if you are planning on buying a minis title to play on your PS3 that you wait until next Thursday as currently only a few minis are playable on PS3. On Thursday 17th we will fully re-publish the minis category and issue a full list of the minis titles compatible with PS3.

That makes it sound like only certain titles will be rejiggered to work, and others might continue to remain incompatible.

yeah sounds like the whole ps1 games on psp/ps3 again - some ps1 games that only work on ps3 and that sort of silly. But it probably means that all minis will run on ps3 in the future.

just let pinbal dreams run on ps3 - that's ALL I ask. :)

I contacted one of the developers and they said that was a requirements to have a psp minis. You know when they were told no online? They also needed to make it work with the PS3. This was planned from the start.

You'll need to go into the download history and get it from there.

Argh, the only PSP Mini I care about is Pac-Man CE, which is an obvious fit for a handheld. It's as obvious as putting the original arcade Donkey Kong on DSi Ware. Someone needs to bug Namco about it until they give us more info on its release.

Also: klier has an awesome avatar, just saying.

Do Minis have online leaderboards?

Yeah, that's what I kind of guessed, so I'm glad you're able to confirm that to us. Still, it's still odd that they chose that wording about issuing a list of compatible titles, which lends an air of uncertainty to the statement.

No, they have no online functionality whatsoever.

I'll try to find out more about it for you. I don't write for pspminisdotcom anymore, but I still talk to most of the developers.

I can see playing the Tetris mini once it's available on the PS3. It's a really good version with nice visuals and music, hopefully blown up on an HDTV it'll still look OK.

I love it because it has achievements and lot of unlockable game modes.

Here's a question for anyone who has successully played Minis on both PSP and PS3 (chubigans, kassatsu, or anyone else): Have you tried transferring your game save data between the two systems? It would be great to be able to start playing on the PSP, then transfer the save data to the PS3 to continue my progress on the big screen, and later transfer the save data back to the PSP for portability. I know this type of transfer can be accomplished for PS1 classics, but I am hoping that this is also possible for Minis.

OK, I'm going to go ahead and answer part of my own question from a few days ago. :)

I got Stand O'Food the other day. It is a very good conversion of the PC game on the PSP...and it is playable on PS3 as well!

When I first got it, I played on PSP and PS3 separately, with a save file for each one. I decided to go with my PSP save as my "main" save. Earlier tonight, I backed up the PS3 save file onto a USB flash drive (very interesting how it saves it there...more on this shortly), and subsequently erased it in preparation for transferring the PSP save file.

I connected the PSP to my PS3 via USB, and went to the Minis save data folder on PS3. It recognized the connected PSP, and all 5 of my game saves from the Minis I have on PSP (Stand O'Food, along with my other 4 Minis which still aren't playable on PS3 yet). Copying the data was very simple, just like copying most ordinary PS3 save files from a USB flash drive back to the hard drive (if you've ever done that).

I then launched Stand O'Food on PS3, and sure enough, the data was recognized, and I successfully resumed right where I left off on PSP earlier. So, I can confirm that it is possible to migrate Minis save data from PSP to PS3! :D

I have not tried transferring from PS3 to PSP yet.

There are a couple of interesting observations I've made:

1. The original save file was 160 KB on PSP, but the one generated by PS3 showed up as only 60 KB. After transferring my PSP save over to PS3, it appeared as 61 KB on PS3. After playing with that data and then saving the game, the file is now 62 KB. Meanwhile, the file on PSP has been 160 KB every time I checked. I assume that the PS3 is compressing the save data file, which might account for large difference when compared to PSP, as well as the slight fluctuation in size between different play sessions.

2. When transferring my original PS3 save file to USB flash drive (the one that was generated by the PS3), the system did not put it within the \PS3\SAVEDATA folder like most PS3 save files. Instead, it created the folder \PSP\SAVEDATA and placed it in there.

Does this go for ps1 game saves. Can I play a ps1 game on my psp the transfer the save to my ps3 and continue?

yep, definitely.

playstation euro blog posted - all minis are now PS3 compatible. You'll probably have to redownload them on Ps3.

oh, except for tetris.

oh, and bowling which is coming on the 22nd.

I downloaded Diner Dash with the latest PS3 update and it looks fantastic on the PS3. Unless the most recently released version is a PS3 specific build. I can only imagine what other PSP games would look like the PS3 PSP Emulator.

Um, that's Diner Dash for PS3. Not PSP.

:lol I assumed it was just a demo release of the PS3/PSP compatible PSP version. My bad. When I searched Diner Dash on the store it only came back with the one version, not the PSP version.

I just posted this information in this week's PlayStation Store thread, but I figured I should repost it here.

I have now tested all 5 of the Minis that I own (US versions) on PS3. Here are the results:

Working:
Blast Off
Echoes
Stand O'Food

Not Working:
Pinball Fantasies
Tetris

I'm not sure why the US version of Pinball Fantasies still isn't working, since the European version reportedly works.

Fuckin EA better not make a separate Tetris game for PS3.

So EU Pinball Fantasies work on PS3? Pinball fucking Fantasies on my HDTV? That's awesome.

*goes out to buy a PS3*

Damn it. Can anyone please post if/when this does finally work? Thanks.

I just found this article on Joystiq. It contains a link to a YouTube video from Halfbrick (makers of Blast Off and Echoes) describing how to play Minis on a PS3. Near the end of the video, he states that he's accessing the European PlayStation Store, and that the update is available now for Europe, and on December 22 for North America. This might be explain why the US version of Pinball Fantasies isn't working yet.

Hahahahhahahaha.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha.

*gasps*

*wipes tears from eyes*

Yeah, right. Sony. Release list PSN. Heh. Heh.

*whew*

Anyone know if Pinball Fantasies works in the U.S. yet?

It works now. However, it looks terrible on my TV (standard definition TV, composite connection), especially the scoreboard which looks choppy and occasionally like portions of the display are missing. Perhaps it looks better on HDTV. For now, I'll stick with playing it on PSP, or bust out my old Jaguar version if I feel the urge to play it on the big screen.

Anyone played Stand o' Food, or whatever it's called? The description reminds me of Pressure Cooker for the Atari 2600, but I'd like to hear more.

Thanks, Agent. If anyone with an HD display can post how it looks for them, it'd be much appreciated.

Yes, I've got it. I mentioned it briefly in this post. It's an entertaining little game, somewhat like Pressure Cooker combined with Cake Mania. Customers place their orders, and you'll grab ingredients off of the conveyor belts to assemble the meal they requested. It's not as fast-paced as Pressure Cooker, and is much more leisurely at the outset, though later on the difficulty increases substantially.

Here's a good review of the game that explains the gameplay in detail:

http://www.pspminis.com/1017/stand-o’-food-review/#more-1017

As I stated in my earlier post, the original Stand O'Food was on PC, and you should be able to find it on some other Web sites if you want to try it that way first. I myself played it on GameTap, and liked it enough to get the Minis version for portable fun.

Thanks, Agent X. Sounds good enough that I may pick it up. I'm waiting to see if any cards show up on the 25th and then maybe splurge on some downloads.

(Pressure Cooker was great. One of my all-time favorite Atari 2600 games. Sadly, rarely appreciated.)

So how do the mini's look on the ps3? Are they upscaled or are they natively HD?

Also... Are there any minis worth getting just for the ps3?

Like poop, but it's still awesome to have the ability.

Vempire and Blast Off are pretty much the best I've played, wish small games like CReature Defense and Kurulin Fusion counted as minis because they are both great.

Anyone manage to get saves transferred from their PSP to the PS3?

BTW I think the OP needs to be updated

Upscaled. They look great in SD displays, but I supouse they look pixelated in HD.
Some deserve to get only for PS3, and others -just my opinion- simply doesn't deserve to be purchased.

It looks good to me on my HD TV. The text in the help screen is blurry but no one should care about that since you'll only look at that screen a total of 1 minute of your lifetime and you can still read everything.

As someone who has never played this before, I gotta say it's one of the best pinball games I've ever played. I've been playing Zen Pinball for awhile now and while the physics in PF are pretty old school (but still good), I think the tables overall are of higher quality, though I still really love a couple of the ZP tables. Hope they bring the other Amiga pinball games over.

I have a 46 inch 1080P LCD and bought Funky Punch way back when on a whim. I'm really happy with how smooth the game looks on my HDTV, better than the PSP screen in fact. There has to be some added image blur or AA put on for the minis when running on the PS3.

So, since i couldn't find any impressions on Bowling 3D i said "oh, fuck it" and bought it. Some impressions (i know at least Gamecocks625 will appreciate it ;) )

First, the game is exactly what i expected it to be: a fun Bowling game you can play anytime. There are quite a few different modes: Quickplay, Single Player (Classic Game, 3 Game Series, Strike-O Thon, Spare-O Thon, Practice) and Pass n' Play (i think it's Hotseat multiplayer, but i haven't tried it yet).

The gameplay mechanics are very simple: choose the position of the bowling ball and hit X, choose the strenght and hit X, choose the direction and hit X and choose the spin and hit X again. After a throw there is a replay and you can watch it from 5 different camera angles.

The graphics are quite nice imo and so are the sound effects. I'm happy i bought the game, since it's perfect to play in bed before sleeping or on the toilet or anywhere else. :lol

Great! How are the framerate and physics? For some reason, in my head I'm picturing a jaggy, 15fps piece of shovelware. I'd like to give it a shot, though! Is it worth the $5?
