Official PSP Minis Thread

Every single one of those launch titles sound shitty based on the title. I mean Pacman Championship Edition? Fuck off trying to sell us 30 year old games.
This deserves at least 47 facepalms.

As does your post. This is like Racer X being released on the PSP at launch instead of Ridge Racer. You know, that awful game you'd play during load screens.

Sony needs to get third parties' PSP games onto the PSN store as a matter of priority. Not worry about drumming up support for Minis like Pacman.

No, seriously. Stop. You are already in a big hole. Don't dig yourself deeper.

Full PSP games. The only games that 3rd parties have released up until now. The hundreds of missing back catalog titles. The many games that aren't announced and have no firm or even promised release date and which Sony refuses to acknowledge beyond saying all future releases will be available day and date on PSN. The catalog Sony is clearly dodging by using wording like "16,000 pieces of downloadable content" instead of "all current UMD games will be available for purchase at launch."

Is my meaning clear enough for you now?

Point being nothing about the Minis appeals to me and I'm seriously unimpressed Sony is launching a DD only portable with these as the centerpiece. So in the interests of not crapping up the thread, I'm out. Enjoy the Minis.

Fuck off, I love Rally X

We don't give a fig about all that...we are responding to your portrayal of Pac Man: Championship Edition. Clueless.

Thank you Yes Boss! Pac-Man CE is one of the greatest games the arcade genre has ever seen!

I'm all for experimental dev stuff at a budget price, but I won't pay a buck for shovelware.
FYI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pac-Man_Championship_Edition#Reception
Pac-Man Championship Edition was released to mostly rave critical reviews, with reviewers stating the gameplay was "fresh and exciting,"[3] "one of the best 'exclusive' pieces of downloadable/casual entertainment available,"[4] and that it was "nice to see a classic remade instead of simply repackaged."[5] Jared Rea of Joystiq called it "The first true sequel to Pac-Man since Ms. Pac-Man."[6]
Criticisms include a lack of a multiplayer mode, and an apparent relapse to patterns that had been in the original.
As of April 14, 2009, the Metacritic score is 83.[7]

Pac-Man: CE single handedly validates the whole Minis initiative for me.

As pointed out here (where it won download game of the year), it's 'a remake which actually improves on the original).

Taking years of experience and knowlege about the sort of depth that really makes gamers excited, CE fuses scoreboard one-upmanship with incredible just-one-more-go play mechanics and a combo system better than any other combo system in any game ever.

If it's even half as good as its XBLA version, it'll be a contender for my GOTY *again*.

The official SCEE PS Blog is doing a "minis week" focusing on some of the games that should launch later in the week. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/category/psp/psp-games/

We also got some prices.

aren't those prices more likely to be 1:1 euro:dollar? So $2.99 and $4.99? Just before US gaf has a fit at the prices, which seem fairly reasonable.

Are you saying it's the best because the launch line up is shitty, or the game is actually good?

I said we won't be talking about it when it comes to the best launch titles. There are some good games coming on Thursday.

OMG OMG OMG OMG

Fortix sounds amazing! I loved versions I have played previously (never heard of Qix but I've played plenty of rip offs)

So they took that box building gameplay and added some nice graphics O_O Day 1... which is tomorrow!

This freaks me out - the EA Sudoku game is an OLD, OLD Sudoku game I designed while I was working at EA Mobile 3 years ago. We initially designed it for the iPod (not iPhone!)

I wonder if my other 2 iPod projects will eventually get on the PSPMini platform (*sigh* The Sims Pool and The Sims Bowling).

Is there anything interesting you could tell us about this game? I sadly missed out on the other PSP Sudoku games (Go! Sudoku and Carol Vorderman's Sudoku) while they were readily available in stores, so I have to admit I have my eye on EA's Sudoku for PSP now. I did get Go! Sudoku for PS3 a while back, and that was very good, with a thoughtfully designed input method that's well suited to the PS3 controllers.

Sadly that won't be hitting the US store tomorrow.

That's what they're going for on itunes, guys. Well, apart from that Sparta game, but that's junk anyway, right?

Tetris $10 on my PSN...

Fieldrunners is $3 on iTunes. Funky Punch is $4. Tetris is $5. Sparta is $2. These PSN prices are insane.

Well, anyone who takes the plunge on Tetris and/or Sudoku should post a mini-review. I'm really tempted to get one or both of those, but I don't want to without a demo.

I haven't played Sudoku, but from what I played of Tetris so far..it's a really good. It seems pretty deep.

Agreed. $6 buys unjammer lammy or jumping flash 2. Minis pricing needs to come down a bit ASAP.

I just bought Tetris. Presentation is very weak (especially compared to the iPhone version) and the Tetris song gets old very fast. Anyways, it's Tetris and the game is fun to play. I think $10 is a little too much.

DO NOT BUY BRAINPIPES! The game is terrible.

Poor Captain N, you must have not expected these prices back when you launched your blog for fun, huh? That site is going to run up a tab a lot quicker than it should. Thanks for taking one for the team at least, I would help you if I could but Thexder Neo is calling.

It's not my blog..I just do some of the writing for it. I've got a pretty good deal out of it all.

I just downloaded Vempire & Kahoots..I'll post impressions here in a minute.

Ah, the UK Minis came out too? I thought we'd have to wait until mid-day for that, thanks for the update.

Glad I didn't get it because I almost did. I own the PC version and it's amazing and figured I'd pick it up as my first mini, but held off on a gut feeling.

Thexdor looks awesome...is it worth the $10?
