ah, shaddap. You aren't interested in these titles?

we don't know anything more than that 1 concept and this announcement. But if its from a Japan dev. It HAS to be good! ... MMCM, BOFDQ, Suikoden 4 has proven that even guys who'd been making RPGs forever can fuck up. SE has also managed to shock/dismay with some of their recent output.

Honestly, I anticipate FFXII and DQVIII a hell of a lot more right now

Is this good news? I thought FF went down the pooper. I haven't touched one since FF7. Well I guess any Japanese support is better than none at all! :lol
Yeah and the good Final Fantasy games were created and produced by who?

if it is 150 people for each game, that's quite insane. Bungie has only 60 employees.

eh I was thinking the same. I am not sure that 150 people(EAD) work on the new Zelda. Jarrod?

People still care about FF? I used to be one of its biggest fan but I've lost all interest in the series.

At least here Sakaguchi is starting something new and pretty much in the same context he created Final Fantasy I. Square was going down the shitcan and final fantasy was supposed to be one of its last projects and look what happened. Now Sakaguchi just came off a disaster and he's working on a new game with no restrictions whatsoever from anyone.

Looks good, real good.

Well unless one of these RPGs is called Final Fantasy and the other one is called Dragon Quest then I reckon these games won't amount to a hill of beans when they finally hit. Is it good news? Well more games certainly isn't bad news but I doubt either will do much, if anything, for Xenon in Japan.

Why does everyone keep saying Final Fantasy isn't good any more. It started going down the toilet when Sakaguchi stopped having direct control over the series.

Peter Moore said:
Sakaguchi's relationship with us is for the duration of these two titles, and while he isn't an employee of Microsoft Game Studios Japan, our arrangement with him is exclusive for the next generation platforms..."
[scratches head]??

Started going down the toilet at 6? Because that's when it really switched over into Kitase's hands.

"His role extends beyond working on the games -- he's also helping us with the positioning of the new platform in the Japanese market, and making sure that we're adequately resourced to deliver on everything we need in that market. Sakaguchi is helping guide us to build content that's relevant to the cultural lifestyle of Japanese gamers.

Nice! Hopefully influence some producers to jump onboard Xbox 360

Like i said, stepping stones :D

Having a three or four player Xbox Live! enabled Secret of Mana-esque Action/Adventure/RPG game would be sweet!

But my guess is that these games will be Live! Aware since all Xbox 360 games require it.

I'm talking about with 6 included. He started going into a producer role with that game, Kitase started being the director of the series.
Doesn't change the fact that after 6 the series went down the shitcan :/

One would argue that there is currently no market for JRPGs on the current Xbox.
If one's going to argue that, then I'd love to see the argument for why there IS one on unreleased, unannounced platform...
Hu. Yeah. If you say so...
It's more like, Hu. Yeah. If MS chooses to officially not say so...

Microsoft's trying to have their cake and eat it too. They're not upping production on the current Xbox to meet demand, and they've shifted all 1st party products still in R&D over to Xenon (Conker should be their last Xbox game in June) but they're waiting until the absolute last second possible to unveil Xenon so as not to kill Xbox momentum.
I'm not oblivious to the likely tactic here but I also doubt that MS is oblivious to the way this overlaps with their previous PR naming convention for the Xbox itself and how this presents a fallback position for one or both of these projects. It's on 'Xbox', exclusively, and that's all that really matters at this time.

Edit: I see Moore's comments @ 1up shed more precise info on nature of deal. "Next Gen Xbox" it is :P

Yeah and aside from six and seven, the rest are quite frankly shit. I mean Square thinks releasing X-2 would a valuable addition to the Final Fantasy mythos. Maybe with Enix heads in charge now it will change, but i'm not to optimistic

Whose joke character is Celicar?

This seems like pretty big news to me. The importance is in how much attention MS will draw with names like these on board. The games actually turning out good would obviously be a bonus, but until then MS can parade the names Sakaguchi, and probably Uematsu, around in Japan, and that can't be bad for business.

FF went down the pooper right when Sakaguchi left... Sakaguchi, Amano and Uematsu *WERE* FF if you ask me, whatever they're passing for the FF series now in no way compares to the ones when they were in charge. I was gonna take a wait and see approach with the Xbox 2, but having 2 Mist Walker RPGs totally seals the deal for me.

So the bulk of the development is being done by two groups of MGS Japan... are these the two teams that did Magatama and Phantom Dust?

Sounds quite good. Not sure about the arrangement that Mistwalker dont actually develop the 2 games!

Also havent MS already done this FF thing countless times only to lead to countless poor games and flops?

no, Mistwalker are creating 2 games for Xbox 360. They're exclusive to MS Next GEn

So it's more of a collaboration, then.

FF X-2 is fan service and I'd say more for the Japanese market than the US. As for the comments about FF6 being the best? Fuck.. suddenly the very important FFVII (with its FMV, black character and death of a central character, best villian in yonks) doesn't matter.

ok, then why didn't you say who you think *is*? out of curiousity. You must have had someone in mind to have had his comment affect you in such a way.

Citing a shared vision with Microsoft for the next generation of video games,

Money hat.

Seriously: If Nintendo had given the same amount of money Microsoft did and gained exclusive rights on the two games, most of you would have said Nintendo is doomed anyway.

Oh, by the way, wasn't FFXI Sakaguchi's baby project?
