oh my god Dead Space 2's ending section has to be the cheapest one ive ever played

That section was unfortunate since it spoiled what was really a great game, IMO.

I would be interested to hear from someone involved in the games development why it was included, and what they hoped to achieve by throwing something like that into the game.

Im playing it on Normal I think, wich makes it all the more ridiculous.

If I go at it again im probably changing to kb/m since the gamepad turning is way too slow.

Like I said, it's not that I find it impossible to go through as much as I find it incredibly cheap, badly designed and unexpected.

well thanks for spoiling the ending of the game im literally playing just now, as the thread says. Awesome.

edit: whatever it's not that big a deal really since game turned into crap, but yeah man you should read the OP in detail before posting.

You should've finished the game before posting about the ending...

OP is absolutely correct. I think I have forgotten about all the nice moments I had with DS2 due to that stupid difficulty spike at the end.

I don't remember having any issues getting through that last part.

The whole Dead Space 2 ending (3 or 4 final chapters) is a mess. I just started to run as long as I could, because I was tired of shooting shooting and shooting. The final chapters just took away all the good things I thought about Dead Space 2 and all my hype for Dead Space 3.

It makes sense to me.
You are getting closer to the marker, I guess it makes sense that there are more necromorphs. Also DS1 had kill rooms very close to the end. The difference is that you were dragging the marker the whole time. I don't see that much of a difference.

Well, going by this thread as many people liked it as didn't, so it's going to be hard to justify beyond "you can't please all of the people all of the time"

Very well could be your issue. I beat the ending on my first try (and the only weapon I ever purchased/upgraded was the plasma cutter).

The final chapter - that room with the marker - I think I got through in 2 tries. Maybe the developer expected people to use their brains and run, instead of standing and shooting while they got overwhelmed over and over.

The respawn guy, knock him down and run. There is one spot (right before the elevator) that is a bit dicey but it's not impossible.

The last boss was annoying because of the insta-kill in close range, but the fight was fairly manageable. The game gives you tons of weapon and health drops on normal (which is what the OP is playing it at).

I'm just not seeing the hate. I really enjoyed the last few chapters.

the problem with the last section is this:

unlike the rest of the game where it pretty clearly points out when you are supposed to focus on fleeing, the end of the game doesn't give you nearly enough clues that that is what you are supposed to be doing.

i don't think its fair to blame anyone who doesn't realise that 'clear out the room and move on' has ceased being a valid strategy.

i knew i was supposed to press forwards because i'd been told i needed to by a friend after a scene 'involving surgery'. it's a really fun section if you know what you're supposed to do, but all of a sudden a game which has been really good at giving you pointers on the general thing your supposed to be doing decides to just leave you completely in the dark.

the flaw isn't the gameplay of that last section, it's that you aren't given any clues as to what you are supposed to be doing.
I think being followed by an invincible Necromorph is a pretty big clue.

One of the best parts of the game. Run, run, fucking run. You can't stop this train, baby. Fucking run. Nemesis all over again. Are people really so used to hand-holding that they can't intuit this from the situation?

I'm really amazed people had trouble with this section of the game. It was by far one of the easiest parts of the game...

I had no real issues with it, and the ending that followed was one of my favourite in a game this generation
until he gets rescued anyway. Isaac just sitting there accepting his fate would have been an incredibly moving way to end the game.

My feelings exactly. I thought this part was great, really got my heart pumping! Also you can take out the regenerating guys a little easier by using the sawblade.

This. On a game where you're used to kill everything that moves, I thought that part was a great change of pace.

I played DS2 on normal, hard core and zealot and honestly the ending section isn't very hard at all. You can run past most of the necros in that section, there are only a couple you have to kill. Shoot the regenerator until he has no limbs left and then kinesis, he'll never touch you. I'm not sure how you played it, but it's supposed to be about the tension of being overwhelmed and running, not trying to fight everyone. Also, force gun is your best friend.

*SPOILER*

Did anyone find that bringing back Ishimura was completely pointless? They bringing it back, and just left it there to be blown up along with the station.

Yeah, I didn't have any trouble with it to be honest, or indeed the entire game, and I'm totally crap at games generally.

Once I saw the regenerating guy I just ran, seemed like the obvious thing to do at the time, just used stasis on the other guys and tried to get the hell out of there.

That being said, I don't think it was a particularly great end to the game, in fact I think it really falls apart in the second half.

Think I might replay these games pretty soon and reassess them. Been a while since I played the original.

I want to play DS/DS2 but I haven't yet.

I've only read the OP since there were no story spoilers:

It sounds like you're just supposed to run like hell. Is that the case and if so, is it made clear to the player? Like, is the ship you're on about to explode or something? Are you just in an arena with these things?

You're being chased by an invincible enemy. It's pretty clear you're meant to run.
