Winamp classic

it really whips the lamaas ass.

I'm an early adopter. I love updating my software to the latest version when possible, or finding new software to replace outdated software.

That said, I'm staying on Windows 7 for my PCs.

Yeah, I still use PSP7. I am trying to learn Photoshop, but there are still so many things I can do waaaay faster in PSP. With a lot of things, even after I learn how to do it in PS the method makes little sense in terms of speed and steps required.

I still use mIRC.
This too.

Does AOL Instant Messenger count? I use it to keep track of like, two people from waaaaaaaaaay back in the day.

If you're using the current version of it, I would say not.

And, when is "waaaaaaaaaay back in the day?" My AOL account is from 1996, and I still have plenty of people on there from 1997.

This thread made me realize I'm evidently not only an early adopter but an early abandoner too. But I still have one holdover - Gammasutra.

It was released in it's current form way back in may 2003 and to this day remains the easiest, fastest, dirtiest way to ramp up screen gamma when a game or video makes a scene too dark and you can't be bothered to fuck around with actual settings. Content producers have been getting better at the whole brightness thing since 2003 so it doesn't see much use anymore, but still nice to have around.

I'd say 97 counts as back in the day.

I used Photoshop 5 LE for ages, though most of its functionality can be had with Paint.NET at this point and I don't even know if it runs properly on Windows 7/8.

I also use Windows XP at work, though that's not out of choice.

I also use an old-ass version of Modtracker to play the old xm files my cousin and I used to make. I'm sure there are newer programs that will play them but it's all part of the nostalgia.

Guitar Pro 5. GP6 is absolute ass, it's slower, some of the keyboard shortcuts don't work, the interface is less intuitive and things that took 1-2 button/key presses in GP5 take ages to do in GP6. It's a downgrade in almost every aspect, and only has a slightly better "realistic sound engine", which still sounds like shit and you can find free VST plugins that sound way better than GP6 RSE anyway. GP5 forever.

GP6 is also complete shit at making anything other than guitar tabs, which is a shame since GP5 was a pretty powerful MIDI creation tool.

Thats really funny because i still use PSP5 :D i tried Gimp a few years ago but couldn't get into it...

I should think about upgrading to 7 now...

Awesome. I'm still on 4.12 and now I want to upgrade :)

I looked into buying older version of PSP, but I didn't see any obvious way to do it. Perhaps I should just buy the latest and pirate v5.

I came to post exactly this. I hate that they tried to make it work like a DAW, as if any reasonable person would actually produce music in it.

I thought of another one, NeroVision Express:

No longer a part of the bloated Nero suite, this is the quick and dirty reasonable way to make nice quality video DVDs with reasonable menus through an interface that isn't WAAAAY more than you need.

Came into this thread to say Opera 12.16, and I was not disappointed by the support already shown.

Does the free version of XPadder count?

ooohhh, I can remember when nero express was like 25Mb! Then they added a lot of crap and it went to 600Mb for no reason.

Ahhh, good times. CloneCD, diskjuggler, no idea of what SAO and DAO where.

I'm still on 12.00
That's more just because I haven't felt like making a back-up in case upgrading messes with anything though. I'll update it again eventually.

Acdsee 3.1 from 2000 to view my porn, uh I mean m photos...

I don't know of any other image viewer that can handle 60,000 images in 400 different directories without taking ages to load up a slide show. And the ability to reset the default settings is awesome. Full screen, shrink/grow image to fit the screen, random.

What?! I can't hear you! I left the speakers up and DVD Decrypter deafened me with that damn marimba sound.

Jesus Christ that fucking sound effect! I only have headphones plugged in, and I can still hear it from the next room! Headphones!

Oh, and I am seriously reeling from the PSP / Cool Edit Pro blasts-from-the-past.

I literally have Paint Shop Pro 7 open right now. This fraternity is blowing my mind.

As for really old software, I still use Charamucker 1999 from time to time for sprite work.

For a long time it was Winamp....but the one program I still constantly use is ACDSee ver 2.43....no other image viewer is as compact or as fast.
I really want a lightweight image viewer that, eh, does not come with the ugliest icon in the history of computing... So is there a reason to stop specifically at 2.43? Did it get bad at 2.44 or something?

people who use winamp should be using foobar2000
wut. They're exactly nothing alike.

The real answer is that people who like Winamp should use AIMP.

Holy fuck man, I felt like the only person to use modplug/modtracker. Used to do some sweet jams in high school.

My dad still uses this.

I'm a dad, too.

I wouldn't mind moving on but both ProTools and Syntrillium flummoxed me.

I use Cool Edit on the PC side and GarageBand 5.1 on the Mac, which is also an old version that still supports podcast tools.
