I'm glad you guys have gotten this far. I can finally use this avatar.

and yeah, Pell being alive is pretty fricking stupid. No one dies in OP except in flahsbacks

355 raw is out, no translation yet. But basically
it has been 10 years & the Puffing Tom has been completed, Water 7 is enjoying a renewed era of prosperity. Franky & Iceburg are both in their 20s & Tom's death sentence is apparently going to be lifted, for his good deeds to the island.

But before that, CP5 and their leader Spandam (who bears an uncanny resemblance to the present day Franky) show up. I assume they're looking for the Pluton blueprints from Tom, but they are turned away and humiliated by Franky & co. On the day of Tom's trial, Spandam and CP5 frame Franky, by taking the Battle Franky fleet (which is now 35 ships strong) and attacks the Judicature ship.

So, I'm thinking both Franky & Tom will now be sentenced to death, Franky for firing upon a marine ship & Tom could be see as working with the attacker to escape his punishment, or that is how CP5 planned it to look. Though, Franky can be see quite clearly standing amongst the crowd, outside the ship when it's attacked, so I'm not completely sure where Oda is going with this.

How long is this entire series supposed to take, any hints at all?

I got into this about a month ago and just caught up because of this thread. I was still skeptical after the whole Buggy Arc, but it grew a little during Kuro and really sunk in with the Arlong Park Saga; the whole Drum/Alabasta was great. This show has easily made me go from hilarious comedy to well thought out drama mode in a second. The only things I don't seem to like are all the filler that has to be put in, it doesn't have anywhere near the same feel as the normal story.

Hint? My best guess now is 50 volumes minimum, but if Hajime no Ippo can go longer (75+), you better believe One Piece can. In animation terms, think 400+ episodes. Really.

Yeah, the filler sucks, but it's the only way to keep the show on the air. I'll gladly ignore the filler (and Skypiea) to get Davyback and Water 7.

When Robin and the King was talking about the Poneglyph giving us the history, the King was gonna ask something like "...so what have we been..." then it gets interrupted when Luffy carried him and Robin out of the tomb.

So what was the question about? Could you guys tell me without any manga spoilers... thanks.

Cobra is basically asking Robin why the hell they've been FIGHTING if all she wanted was to look at the Poneglyph. Robin's character is still a bit too inconsistent for my tastes.

I seem to remember hearing not too long ago that Oda considered the series more or less halfway done (this would be the manga we're talking about). I don't know how true that is, though, and there's no guarantee that he'll stick to that even if it was true.

About the filler, wouldn’t they have to add more and more as they get closer to the manga? And considering each episodes covers more than one chapter, the anime's faster pacing will always catch up. Basically 15 episodes of filler give room for 15 chapters, which are definitely covered in less than 15. It catches up again, but this time 20 are needed, and so on. o_O

I'm pretty torn on whether I should read the manga or not but filler is the first reason why I'd go for the manga.

Now it's much clearer to me. I think I was overthinking it a bit since there was a lot of revelation on that dialogue between them and don't want to miss any details. Thanks Cast.

And about reading the manga, I wouldn't go for it. I already regret it doing for Naruto. :(

I didn't mind the Warship Island arc & the few mini filler arcs so much. Though, I thought the Arabasta filler definitely hurt the pacing & overall enjoyment of that story.

Which is why I'm more than happy to put up with as much filler as the Toei team feels necessary, so Water 7 runs as smoothly as possible and isn't bogged down with useless filler. Because it would be a damn shame to see perhaps, the best & most important arc suffer from bad pacing and tediously drawn-out episodes.

Well, they've actually managed to reach a good pacing; one filler arc after every manga arc. So you generally know when it's coming. And episode vs. chapter count is roughly 1.5 anyway. I'm pretty sure Naruto is going to settle into the filler-arc-filler situation too.

But god man, read the manga or watch the anime? Real men do both.

If you're just wondering whether to add the manga on your plate, though, make a decision based on the following; on one hand, the filler starts from now 'til 144. Jaya+Skypiea take us all the way from 144-195, after which more filler, then Davyback, then filler, and, well, 200+ is right around where the broadcast is right now. On the other hand, I really think Skypiea is the weakest manga arc, so I have some pretty high hopes for the anime clearing the pacing up (something done very well with Arabasta and Don Krieg). And eventually you'll be sweating it out with us over Water 7, swearing to not read for a month like people try in the Naruto thread (and failing). :lol

Dude, Skypiea isn't that bad.. quit saying it. :-|

I mean, I understand that it doesn't contribute to the larger plot, but that whole "uncovering the real history" thing rocked. The ending was superb as well.

Hey, the final fight is great, but OP has no dud arcs, so a little bit of history just doesn't stack up so well. And considering SkyPiea goes on for 40+ eps, I can see it making people antsy to move on. Especially since it's flanked by great mini-arcs in Jaya and Davyback.

NOTE: A weak arc for One Piece is still better than a good arc for many other series.

Taking the plunge...
Okay, here we go!

We are now starting the next big installment of One Piece filler!

Yes, that's right, episodes 131 through 143 are all filler, not to be confused with real storylines.

A quick rundown, episodes 131-135 are single episode fillers, as in they have nothing to do with anything, not even themselves. Episodes 136-138 are the Goatsex Arc and Episodes 139-143 are properly titled Revenge of the Annoying Children Returns II.

So, crawl under a rock for a few months-until it's all over. You won't miss much.

Oh and Episode 131 gets released tonight, and it only goes downhill from here folks.

:(

I liked that episode. Chopper always makes me happy. :D

Robin is still hard to get used to. She's just so different from all the other Straw Hats. Older, more distant, and not even remotely as manic as the others. I'm sure the others will start to rub off on her, though. They always do. ;)

The Apis-o-Meter!(duh-dun~!)

The ninth wonder of the modern world (preceeded by the celluar phone and toilet paper), this handy doo-dad enables you to see just HOW BAD the next filler episode is gonna be!

WOW! AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO WATCH IT!!

Let's take her for a test run.

Damn, I wish they'd considering skipping the filler, just this once. :(

Speaking of filler skipping. It seems like that other group, who subbed two episodes of Arabasta & movie 5, plan to resume subbing, starting with ep. 144 (beginning of Jaya).

So if you're impatient for non-filler OP, that may be an option.

I'm reading the manga now and it's awesome. I read from the end of the Luffy/Crocodile fight and just got into the next arc.

Ships falling from the sky! monkey man (“you look more like a monkey than a real monkey” :lol)! pirate-filled city jaya!

Fun fun fun. :D

And One Piece is still ridiculously funny in manga form too!

You caved in! I knew it! :lol :lol

Jaya is a great little arc. See you on the other side where we all breathlessly await weekly chapters. :D

131 starts the filler, but it was certainly good filler, explaining some of Chopper's motivations instead of diving into an anime-only arc that has no bearing on anything.

One Piece 132 is out!

Apparently they're giving this episode a maximum 5 out of 5 Apises.

Yep. :D

Btw, I'm up to V29 and can't see how people say it's their least favorite OP arc. I like it better than Arabasta so far.

~ manga ~
There's adventure dammit! It's been so long since the straw hats had a journey in an exciting and beautiful place. The fights are short and get to the point; emphasis is on adventure here which is why I love this arc so much. The Baroque Works vs. Straw Hats segment of Arabasta is my least favorite part of OP. Ok let me just say it: It was bad. It was just boring and dragged out like any average shounen (except the Zorro fight of course :p). Skipia on the other hand is pure OP. XD

All of that and yet I still can't wait to get back to the grand line. There's a score to settle with Black Beard!

(and yeah White Beard is freakin' huge!)

Ah, here's the confirmation of the Apis-o-Meter score:

"If you're not scared of monsters... you've never met a real one.

But now you will... because he's coming.

Continuing in the single-episode, guest star-laden filler arc, we now introduce you to Rice-Rice...

Voiced by Taiki Matsuno, a.k.a. Kouga from Inuyasha, appearing in....

The Worst Episode of One Piece, Ever!

This episode is Unwatchable."

I can't wait. :D

Geez. I thought the "Worst Episode Ever" was the one with Mr. Scorpion. I'm pretty sure they already said it was when they released that one. Either that or it was the one with the three dudes pretending to protect the town.

If even they can't stand this crap, I really wish they'd just skip the filler. :\ We could be on filler for another couple months at this rate.

Yeah, it was episode 99 with the guys protecting that one town that they said was the worst. Mr. Scorpion was SLIGHTLY better than that episode. :lol

Oh man just finished volume 29. The manga is owning me right now. So awesome. I wish I can read until I catch up but no time. :(

Eneru is too much like Crocodile. I guess that's the only negative thing I can think off... Seriously what don't you guys like about Skipea? I haven't finished it and I think it's pretty safe to say it beats arabasta. Yay for One Piece. XD

Well,

1. Skypiea is basically one big blank. It doesn't introduce new crew members, it doesn't change wanted values, it doesn't effect anything going on in the greater one piece universe. The whole thing amounts to "we kept some dials". It's still fun, they save some mysterious people, but Jaya and Water 7 cover far more ground in far less time.

Unless there is something about it I'm forgetting...?

2. Eneru is actually somewhat interesting when considered against certain post-arc events. Elementals are not as easy to beat as Luffy might think.

3. Blanket statement: Not enough Zoro combat.

4. You still have to read the Davyback arc.

No kidding... and considering how much trouble he had against Eneru, who he had resistance against, and the gulf between him and an elemental he isn't resistant against is unfathomable. As seen in the ring island segue.

manga...

I'm up to chapter 295. I feel uneasy that norland took an entire army to Jaya... He's supposed to be the good guy. It's not like the king was just going to take a vacation in the golden city.

Still, I like norland and his whole story.

Btw do we get to know anything about what happened 800 years ago and the ancient text?

Exactly. I'm really interested in how Oda is going to tackle this problem.
Luffy's peers are easily more powerful than his whole crew.

Hard to say. Water 7 has already shown just how powerful some people can be against any and all of the Straw Hats. They're either going to have to rely on pure ingenuity or make some huge leap in power at some point.

Ok, they REALLY overstated how bad this episode was. It wasn't even close to the worst episode by a longshot, though that Rice-Rice character was indeed truly horrific. But at least he wasn't the focus of the episode or anything.

Just your average day on the Going Merry. And we don't get nearly enough Nami-centric episodes anyway.

This should have been a 3 Apis episode, not a 5.

On second viewing it wasn't as horrible as it first seemed. Definitely not the worst episode, though... it ranks up there with them. :P

To me I saw Skypiea as something that is in every shonen series...the tournament. It seems that every shonen series has to have a big tournament at some point. Skypiea was One Piece's tournament.

And it did help explain some things

It shows that the Strawhat pirates seem to be taking the same path Gol D. Roger took through grandline. And we also found out Roger was at Skypiea as well.

manga.

OMG. The Davy back fight was a sweet little arc. It’s up there with Jaya and Drum island. Oda is the man. :D

Oh and Gold Roger = LUFFY'S GRANDPA!? I doubt it because luffy sounded like he knows (and fears?) his grandpa when the blue pheasant mentioned him. I'm sure luffy would've told the crew he knew the pirate king. Or maybe he wouldn't. >_>

Now that I'm reading the manga I can see why everybody was saying the group should skip the filler. Lots of good stuff ahead!

Yeah just got to water 7. XD

I just want to clear something before continuing...

the water 7 people are friendly to pirates because pirates are mostly clients to water 7? judging from the ownage careera company dealt to those pirates it seems they're pretty used to dealing with them.

Also, it looks like they're the partners of the world government, so how could the government let them prosper from pirate business?

I think Galley-la's clients are kept somewhat confidential. I have no doubt that the world government does indeed know that they unofficially build pirates ship, that's why Iceburg seems to hate when government officials go snooping around the docks.

I dunno why the world government doesn't act. My guess is that they don't want to spoil their relationship with the best ship building company in the world. Also, Tom says something later on that sheds a little more light on perhaps why the government can't act on the building of pirate ships.

*finishes reading up to chpt. 333*

OMG.

OMFG.

HOLY $@%# WHAT'S GOING ON.
USOPP! CAPTAIN USOPP!! If Oda is just toying with us and he returns I'm gonna have a nervous break down. What's going on. WTF. I think I read a spoiler about usopp leaving but this... this is just. OMGWTFBBQ!!!! :(

Chrono...

Dry those tears.

Take a step back from the monitor & breathe for a moment.

Try and compose yourself. Because the shocks just keep coming. :D
