It's definitely my favorite MGS game and it's at least in my top 5 greatest of all time.
I don't get those complaints. Was MGS3 your very first Metal Gear or something? I don't think anyone expected anything other than over the top boss fights in an MGS before the franchise apparently went ultra realistic with MGSV.
That bolded question doesn't even make sense seeing how I framed that post pretty clearly stating I've played other games in the series. Playing the other games gives me a worse, not better view of the game both gameplay and story wise.
The bosses in 1 and 2 were characters with understandable motivations and plans. The bosses in 3 are Power Ranger's villains. They are 100% impossible to understand or believe on the most basic level. Even the more out there bosses from 1 and 2 like Raven or Fatman I basically understood. Everyone in 3 it's just I'M CRAZY AND EVIL OOOH THE FEEEAAAR.
Seriously what the fuck is the Pain even doing? An ambush that ruins an ambush that takes place in the worst possible place for him to ambush you. Why does the End uses tranq darts? Both gameplay wise and storywise it turns a serious scene into a joke. The Fear is uh...who cares about the Fear. All of these guys just show up and then die and yet they all have the same stupid jokey confidence.
Super Mario Galaxy doesnt have Mario saluting towards the camera with tears coming out.
Yeah but Mario Galaxy is a masterpiece, but its way to different to compare it to a Metal Gear game. Mario is a gameplay game, while Metal Gear is an emotional story driven game. (3 only)
I like MGS3 a lot, including the boss encounters, but great post.
I should be a bit nicer tbh, I actually think the game tried a lot of cool stuff and I certainly don't hate it, but I feel like the fact that it's by far easier to beat and understand than the first 2 has way more to do with why people love it than any real quality to it. Stuff like The End, while flawed, is the kind of thing most devs wouldn't even touch and I respect that a lot, it's why Kojima remains one of my favorite creative minds.
Also The Boss is a great "antagonist" but I have to wonder if he really went ham on that idea and just went ehhh all the other villains don't matter. I mean Volgin is just so amazingly one dimensional it's probably because he wanted her to stand out, but the problem is it's kinda weird when you realize these weird mutant psychos were her buddies.

You are not wrong, but I was never bothered by this. They are the Boss' crew and are there to fight you because she ordered it. Soldiers. While they are all weird and over the top, I do not need an emotional background story for every single one of them during the game. I do understand why people would want this though, as the previous MGS games elaborated this stuff quite extensively. But to me, it adds a bit to the mystery of the Boss and having control of such an extraordinaire crew (most of them at the very least having some real supernatural abilities, which is different than most future enemies). They had only one reason for their actions here, and that is their unquestionable loyalty to the Boss.
And I thought the battles itself were great.
The stealth is so much better than in any previous MGS game because enemies no longer have conical sight/brain damage where they can't notice anything outside their cone of surroundings. Using the camoflauge system and rewarding the player with new camoflauges was amazing and it made the game much more replayable. I loved collecting camoflauges.
How does a lbp game make it on anyones top 10 list? Uhh
Mine would too.Nice choices but the fact that your top 10 games of all time consist mostly of games in the last 10 years is interesting.
4 was better.
wat.
The same reason your backseat moding is?Why are these kinds of shitty posts tolerated?
The same reason your backseat moding is?
Opinon: It's not even the best Metal Gear Solid game ever made. Actually, I'd argue it's almost the worst. Nah fuck it, it is the worst of the mainline MGS games.
Twin Snakes > 2 > 1 > 4 > 3
I gotta agree with you there.4 was better.
