Orange Box PS3 is pretty much a dead product, confirmed

borsdy said:
It is free as long as it is free on another competitor's console AFAIK.
EA Live Sports Tracker was free on PSN when it came out this year on PSN. The Live version came out at the same time and cost $5. MS doesn't really care so much about price parity any more because they probably figure that a) nobody cares enough for it to make a difference or b) they think they're big enough player in the market that they can justify the premium.

EDIT: UT3 on PS3 is in need of some usability enhancements, especially for the mod support. Importing mods is an extremely cumbersome process.

how about reading the rest of the fucking interview perhaps, folks...

MS charges developers to add extra achievement points to their games.

1UP: For the downloadable content for the 360, do you have any plans to incorporate some of the more popular maps that people have created? Are you going to add new PC Achievements as well?

GN: One of the reasons you have to charge for the update is so that you can have more Achievements. That's one of the several ways that Microsoft pushes you. Since we're charging for the update, we can add the same set of Achievements that have been added on the PC side.

because it's a shitty console to develop for and Valve isn't scared about ruining future relations. They should be proud of it, they're no ones bitch.

Woah...easy there fella, no need to get all hostile.

May I suggest a relaxing enema?

"So whether or not you like developing for that platform, if they've got millions of people connected to that platform and buying their games you have to take it seriously."

So what happened to that ^

I rather suggest for the love of God, play this anthology on whatever you can get your hands on it personally.

Agreed except I just have to say TF2 is so much better on PC. Not to be PC-elitist but the updates are all there, for free, custom maps, a huge player base, higher res/aa/af, etc etc...

But ya just play it any way you can when it comes down to it. :D

Who said that and when?

I wasn't a huge fan of valve in the first place but I thought they made a good game so I bought HL2 for the PC and then orange box for the PS3, now I feel bad for buying orange box PS3, the fact that they don't have PS3 developers is simply ridiculous, I guess I won't be buying anymore of their games.

There isn't a big enough facepalm.gif for this post.

it may sound like I'm angry but thats just how I type. Though two pages of people asking questions that are answered in the interview is pretty cool too

Totally agree...I started playing TF2 on console and even on a 3 year old PC, the game community/control style/user content is just that much better. The game is faster paced and the game is just better balanced. Classes like spies and snipers are way more dangerous and sentries are more balanced. Not to say TF2 for console sucks, after all, it's the console version that got me hooked, but you really are missing out by not playing on PC.

Can't believe we have morons hating on Valve in this thread.

The Wii has the largest install base this gen, but you don't see me whining about Valve not having any Wii developers and not releasing Orange Box on Wii. Valve is about PC gaming first and foremost; the 360 is just bonus to them. The PS3 and Wii are both irrelevant to them for different reasons. Big deal. Play Orange Box on PC if you want to have the best experience, anyway. It's cheap now, even if you bought another version, and you get the new updates (maps, weapons, and game types) for free.

And before you jokers start, yes the Orange Box would run on the Wii, at reduced graphic detail. Source will run on just about anything with the right settings, which is why my lame laptop geforce go 6150 card will run the thing at native resolution at lower detail when other FPS games released at the same time give me a slideshow. Also, HL2 was ported to a last-gen system, so the Wii could certainly handle it.

tl;dr Valve doesn't have to port anything to PS3 if they don't want to so stop whining.

I don't care about Valve or their ports... I played HL when it came out on my Voodoo3, and I really enjoyed it. I don't need to play the second iteration on my PS3 if it's not made for it. I don't care.

As I understand it, being incredibly flush with cash means that Valve do whatever the hell they feel like doing. I guess they don't have anyone interested in working on PS3. Or for that matter, sorting their loading scheme out.
Making good games comes before porting said games to platforms they were never meant for.

Wish I could say I'm sorry.

stop making sense...

If I were a 360 only owner I would start sending MS some emails. They are forcing Valve to charge 10 bucks for something they want to give away for free.

Devil's advocate: it costs more to put something up on the 360 (because of their approvals pipeline) than it does to release a patch on the PC.

The "make a game for PS3 or I hate you and you're dumb" shtick gets old.

Lol, where did I say that at all :lol

I don't care that they aren't supporting orangebox, they have no reason to. I'm just somewhat surprised they have no PS3 devs. I was under the impression they wanted to move a bit more into console development? I would think they'd have at least someone familiar with the console working for them

Your accusatory shtick gets old

I don't get why PS3 owners are angry at Valve :lol

You should have bought the damn thing for PC...the platform it was made for.
