I agree with the characters you disliked some characters stretched my nerve to breaking point.

The suzanne scenes in the later episodes are insufferable and all the arguing with the bunker lot was getting tedious.

Hopefully next season serves as a reset of sorts some characters who were delightfully horrible and believable have become parodies. Time for a clear out.

Okay, so I wasn't the only one who was getting tired of the Suzanne stuff. I felt kinda bad because the performance itself is great, I'm just exhausted by the character. Ever since her "Time Hump" arc a few seasons ago, I just haven't enjoyed the direction they've taken her.

Fucking hate how
Taystee is the one that fucks up everything, the negotiations were practically finished and would have made litchfield a better prison for everyone so even an incident like Pousseys would never happen again. Instead she just throws it all away

I can see why she made that decision as silly as it is to us the viewers, remember we get to know what everyone is thinking. Also we have to remember that the show is set a few days after
Pousseys death, the emotions would still be raw

They need to get rid of her. Possibly the most annoying character in the show now, and that's saying something.

On episode 6 or 7, can't remember but the show has been funny, which I don't know how I feel about. Like a comedy show funny and not really much on the drama/story with some comedy spliced in. I don't even remember the story to be honest, at this point I think there is just too many characters and shit going on. Dexter season 5 is the only TV show that was so bad it made me quit the show on the spot so I don't think this show has reached there yet.

And what the fuck is up with the
doctor? People can just walk in the clinic freely? Why is he not tied up as a hostage? Why is he still staying if there's a riot?
How has he been getting food etc?
I don't get it.

Finished episode ten and
the constant 'this character has a sad backstory' is just tiring. At this rate Vee will get a flashback episode dedicated to how there was a reason she was the way she was.

This Suzanne thing is hard to watch now. They never really had any sort of consistency with her mental illness and just had her behave with whatever they could come up with, one moment she is smart with above average intelligence and others she is the exact opposite, then there are three delusions, hallucinations etc etc pretty much everything goes. This coupled up with the fact that how long it has gone and how often it comes up it becomes a bit painful to watch.

Maybe in the last few episodes something will happen but the way they just seem to have swept
all the shit that guard did to Tiffany under the carpet is pretty weird.

This season was such garbage I can't even begin to describe my disappointment. So much hypocrisy.

All that for Poussey? Seriously?
Iirc her death was accidental. While trying to better the prison, you have absolute chaos, you have guard rape, you have torture, you have women doing dumb things like giving Suzanne some shady drugs, you have pregnant women in there, you have wounded women, you have a murder, you have a body.

On top of that

Are officials really negotiating with the prisoners?? What? This show just has no logic at all. And what's up with that whole "the riot guards are coming in here to kill us" thing? That's not what riot guards do,
no one is supposed to die from a team of trained forces. Except piscatella of course....

And
for those saying pornstache raped daya, well yeah he did but he didn't,
pornstache was manipulated by the women to get her pregnant

I managed to watch the entire season and idk how. Idk if it's worth continuing for me. This show is just too hypocritical. It goes beyond what is drama.

did you missed bayley being fucking destryoed mentally and his suicide attempt or what?

I'm referring to Taystee's actions, what do you want her to do, just drop it? She's rightfully pissed her friend died (3 days ago!). She wants some accountability.

The only thing I would say is that she took it to the point where now nobody gets anything, but to say "Fuck Taystee"? Lol no

They need to go easy on the "white people are crazy" jokes. Seems like every other joke Cindy or that track girl say is something like "this is the whitest shit ever".

I don't remember but the women aren't innocent, they just wanted the sperm as proof right? Idk this show makes no sense like I said. There's no logic anywhere.

This is season 1 shit so I'm not sure why you're putting this in tags.

She was already preggo by the time they did it. But they wanted to pin it on him so the real dad wouldn't get in trouble.

I was addressing someone earlier who said pornstache raped Daya. I was just saying the women knowingly did it and planned it.

This is what you said in your own post:

"pornstache was manipulated by the women to get her pregnant"

This is wrong. She was already pregnant. She manipulated him into having sex with her as well so the other CO wouldn't get in trouble for having sex with her and making her pregnant.

Ok, I see yeah you're right. I was wrong with on that. It's been a while you know? But my point still stands.

"That's some white people shit!

Yeah, she says it so often it almost gets bizarre. I get the feeling one of the writers made this joke in the writer's room which led to absolutely every other writer in the show writing it into their own scripts, or something.

Just started episode six and I can't decide who I hate more: the white supremacists or Alex and Piper.

The correct answer for this season is Angie and Leanne.

Finished the season. Overall I thought it was pretty good but I agree that
the riot should have lasted half a season and not a full one because there was just a bunch of stuff that seemed like filler to pad the season out.

I know a lot hate her but I still like Piper as a character. Nicky is still my favorite character overall. Also I agree that the methheads got way too much fucking screentime. I get they are meant to be the comedic relief but they aren't funny, they're just annoying. The shit with Tiffany and that guard at the finale all cozy together was just wtf.

I'll check out next season since I'm still a big fan of the show and the new direction it will go in should be good. It's said Piper only has three months but odds are everyone is getting extra time for the riot so she'll probably have another year tossed on. The new prison angle could be pretty good.

Finished watching this last night and, yeah, not a fan

Too much time spent on incidental characters. Now we have the White Power girls and the 3 wacky Latinas competing with the Meth Girls for comic relief time. Some of them we don't even know their names, but they pop up every couple minutes. And the white girl who is only there to have her nose broken over and over again is just a lame joke.

Suzanne goes crazy again. Great actress but do something new with her, please.

If we never see Lorna again I'm perfectly fine. We've established that she's crazy but now I'm supposed to root for her because she's pregnant? Pass.

Not crazy about them playing the abuse of the guards for laughs when the same kind of behavior was what demonized all the guards the previous 4 seasons. The guards they had as hostages were all basically the doofus guards, not the bad ones. The writers have irrevocably damaged some of these characters they spent 4 years making you like.

Taystee fucked up and I was kind of glad to see it. Incredibly poor decision making for a character we've previously established to be really smart.
Black Cindy:"Hey Taystee we've got 2 problems: Suzanne is going crazy again and the guard that got shot to start this whole riot is dead."
Taystee: Suzanne's going crazy?! Well, we better go take care of that right away."

Even if Bayley was arrested and charged with manslaughter it still wouldn't be enough for the inmates.

They damaged the characters so much the only way to redeem them was to apparently make Pescatella into a super big bad. And once he's defeated, the swat team rolls in and they're all portrayed as being completely evil too, which is supposed to justify everything the inmates did, I guess. Apparently, there are zero decent people working in corrections? None? At all? Makes it a bit hard to believe.

I'd guess next season features some kind of time jump, to allow for the prison to be repaired and some, not all, of the cast to return to the "new" Litchfield.

I won't say I'm done with the show, as it is still very bingeable, but they have crapped all over their narrative and just need to wrap this up.

I enjoyed this season so much more than last season. Last season was such a slog, I only finished it the day the new season came out. I do wonder what direction they are going to take the show in next season though.

People aren't referring to Daya, by the way. They are referring to Penn and the RapeCop.

As for how Tasty
handled Poousy's death by not giving into their demands,
the problem isn't with her doing it per say, but how it is in the show. Literally an episode before she was saying she never wants this shit to happen again. Full stop. How she found a calling to help protect the women of that prison. They should have at least had her deliberating on the idea before swinging around literally the next episode and saying no. It just felt like it was done for the essence of drama and not good story telling.

Oh yea, you are completely spot on with all of this.
[/SPOILER]

This is what happens when you need to stretch shit for more seasons. Gotta pull in more useless drama.

I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough at
Piscatella just happening to be gathering Red's friends outside Frieda's bunker, and Frieda's map just happening to be worded with vaguely threatening language to make her think it was from Piscatella.

They really couldn't come up with something better than that?

Oh ok. RapeCop obviously definitely raped her last season. I only watched up to episode 10 this season. Penn's character bastardization in those 10 episodes, though, is gross.

I appreciated the change up in the format for the season, but at the same time I agree that it went on too long, and there were some really awkward parts to it all. I found a lot of the 'humour' seemed based on displays of ignorance by characters, which is probably fair to some degree, but it got pretty wearing after a while (maybe a side effect of binge watching).

With the inevitable fallout, it's obviously an opportunity for them to carry out a comprehensive reset of cast members, and I dare say that it's no coincidence that certain characters find themselves where they do in terms of who makes the cut.
I just hope Flaca makes it

Are there interviews with the writers about what they were thinking with the whole pennsatucky storyline this season? Which ended up being simply creepy beyond belief.

Also could Laverne Cox make it any clearer she'd rather not be on the show anymore. How they got her out the prison was hilarious.

I hate them so much.

Literal, actual nazi character: "Wow for subhuman filth you sure know how to make a nice cup of coffee. I used to work as a barista and I literally poisoned black and jewish customers by putting antifreeze in their coffee"
Latina woman: "Wow you should totally come work at our makeshift coffee shop"

The nazis have their place in the show. Racial tensions in the prison will always be a thing.

The problem is they've been defanged. The main problem is so many groups in the show have been defanged.

At points over the seasons every group the latinos, white nationalists, the black gang, especially when Vee was there. Red's white girl gang,Penstuckey crazy religious gang have all been incredibly dangerous. Now because the tone of the show has maybe swung a bit too much towards comedy instead of drama the weird tone it sometimes takes stands out more.

It was episode 7.

That's the thing though: The nazis never had fangs on this show. For the most part, their role has been delivering "quirky" nazi one-liners. The show hasn't made them a threat, the show hasn't given them storylines to try and humanize them, they just walk across the screen and say racist stuff, and other characters barely react. It's weird and uncomfortable.

After watching this season and reading the criticisms I went back to the beginning of the series, and honestly I think that people forget that it has always been a hot mess. Right from the start there are plot threads that go nowhere, or to completely baffling places. It has always had huge tonal issues, where it swings back and forth from cheery sitcom to Breaking Bad levels of dark and depressing, sometimes randomly in the same scene. Characters are inconsistent at best, and it often feels like they just flip a coin to determine if a character is a villain that is beyond saving, or a basically good person who can always be forgiven.

I still like it from start to finish, though. The setting and the actors carry the show for me. The actors especially really elevate even the worst material, and when a scene is well-written they nail it.

I'm on episode 7. Been losing me. I'm skipping past the flashbacks lol.

I never ever ever skip past things in shows...but I did skip one set of flashbacks this season. I think it was
the new Taystee ones
. Just bored me. Across the board, I thought all the flashbacks in this season were poorly integrated in the show. Because of how compressed the time is, you get the flashbacks but not that extra piece of connective tissue for the character they're for in the present. Most of them just felt sorta plopped into episodes. And even when they weren't, the insight into the characters was shallow.

Yo, we just got through episode 1.

Does the show go back to being, well, 'grounded' soon? I'm really not all that much on board with the craziness that was late season 4 and S05E01.

Was
Janae part of Red's beating
in Season 3? If so, fuck the story for trying to keep on humanize her like she actually isn't a piece of trash. I feel bad for Taystee she's stuck with three of the worst characters on the show. Black Cindy in particular is a caricature of a caricature at that point.

I still enjoy Black Cindy cause she gets some pretty good one liners. Piper & Alex are the ones that feel a little too White when they're together. Like I'm surprised they didn't start selling LuLaRoe during the riot. I totally get that Season 1 was all about contrasting Piper's sense of privilege with life in prison, but this is Season 5. They painted her with a really broad brush strokes this season and I didn't care for it
