Don't know if this has been mentioned yet:

(Click for gameplay!)
It was such an overlooked game. It retains pretty much everything loved about the series, and even manages to look amazing.

I'm almost afraid to ask...but did all the overlooked gems sell below expectations? (My heart is ready to be broken.) I owe NeoGAF for the enjoyment I've had this year mining the Wii's library.

I had to look at the html source code to find the image link since yours didn't work.

Why don't you just use covers from amazon that work with hotlinking and aren't HUGE files.

For everyone else, it was Spectrobes:

Sorry, slop job.

I played a mass majority of the titles listed in this thread already. Most are great games.

I would add both Conduit games as well.

Not every game sold below expectations, some sold the amount developers wanted, some even sold more than developers expected, but some did still sell below them unfortunately.

Punch Out Wii.

For any of you Aussies reading, JB's exclusivity on that game must have ended because I saw copies in Kmart in Northland (Melbourne) going for only $24.

Fatal_Frame_IV.jpg

Hidden gem in the sense it was completely overlooked by publishers outside of Japan.

It would help to know what the game is called.

Now if anyone wanted to make a thread about overlooked GameCube games ... :D

I was JUST thinking about that when I clicked on this thread, no joke. My GameCube library was really really small. I didn't really play anything outside the first party titles, only:

Mario Sunshine, SC2, Double Dash, Wind Waker, Melee, Rebel Strike, and the two Metroid Prime games, with USB loading for GameCube available for the Wii U, I was thinking a similar thread might be nice for someone like me.

I freaking adore my Wii. In terms of strange, Japanese games, it's right up there with my Dreamcast for me. I played that thing sooo much.

A few of my favorite more obscure games were Final Fantasy: Chocobo's Dungeon, Shiren the Wanderer, Arc Rise Fantasia, Sin and Punishment 2 and Dead Space Extraction.

There are tons more though.

Excite Truck
Pure adrenalin. Even better if you're playing it and are familiar with motion controls. My first okay through was a struggle, my second was an absolute breeze and I loved it even more.

MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade
Orbient

Two genius single button control games, both in WiiWare. The circle mode of MaBoShi (especially the DS download version) is probably my favourite game of all time. Orbient (also in GBA) is just so relaxing.

I was able to pick up DeBlob, Boom Blox, Wii Music, Endless Ocean, and ExciteBots up for real cheap. I am looking forward to getting a chance to play them. Still keeping my eyes out for Zak and Wiki, Red Steel 2, Cooking Mama, Trauma Center, and the other Wii Hidden gems. I am actually surprised at how hard they can be to find considering how much they were overlooked and how poorly they sold.

The filename of that cover being Fatal_Frame_IV.jpg wasn't a dead giveaway?

Thankfully, there is a translation patch if you can get your hands on the original Japanese disc. The translation patch lets you play it on any region Wii, and runs off an SD card with no need to modify your Wii for homebrew. Not that it does anyone all that much good with the prices the game commands even second hand....

I always felt a little guilty for not supporting that one out of patriotic duty or something like that since that was made in Germany. So you're saying this is for all the DK64 lovers out there?

Sorry, but that game is outright horrible, bad, awful, disgusting (to be continued). Yes, it might have been overlooked - but for good reason.

A little late but i see this thread is alive again. Its no way as good as DK64 but i got enjoyment out of this game. its avarage at best but manage to find it for €5 that is why i had fun with it. also notice that i said CHEAP in my post. camera is bad but i learned to deal with that. Its kinda like epic mickey in that sence a lot of people hated it but got used to the camera and i used to like collect a thon games and love disney so i also got my fun out of that. So if you liked epic mickey try this one out.

Ah, I had a feeling. Post still should have mentioned it. It's like saying, "Can't you recognize the Japanese Fatal Frame logo? Duh.

Same game was also on the DS, btw (I own that version)

btw, has anybody played Earth Seeker? It never left Japan sadly :(

yes. it wasnt really good. i liked the artstyle but the gameplay was kinda meh. there are better japanese only games out there.

for example
Zangeki_no_REGINLEIV_Japan_box_art.jpg
Heartbreaking that this was never localized. Maybe I'll mod my wii to get around region-locking someday.

why did operation rainfall neglect this and include pandoras tower... why??

ZnR is also WAY more expensive than Earth Seeker :( (grabbed that off of play asia for 8 euros or so).

ZnR came out way earlier and PT got a Euro release. Rainfall went exclusively after games that had a CHANCE of coming over. PT having gotten a release in Europe made the US release way way more likely than starting a campaign for a JP only game that was also almost two years old at that point.

Decided to go with Boom Blox Bash Party for $10 rather than the original. Seemed like a solid choice, and I basically got it for multiplayer purposes. Hope it provides enough fun for a group.

Retail:
The Kororinpa games
ExciteBots
Zack & Wiki
Endless Ocean: Blue World

WiiWare:
Art Style: Orbient
Block Breaker Deluxe
LostWinds

Lots of great games is this thread, but I guess I'm the only one who likes...

Yes, its a mini-game collection, but it is framed by 4 large open-world resort areas that are so much fun to explore. Each resort has secret areas and hidden objects and special challenges.

There is also a home-decorating option of your resort villa as in Animal Crossing

One of my favorites. It is an awesome virtual vacation.

I like it too but I just haven't had enough time to really dig into it since I don't have my US Wii with me most of the time.

I wanted to second Excite Truck; one of the absolute funnest games I've ever played in my 30 years of gaming.

ExciteTruck1.jpg

I'm also one of the weirdos that really likes Red Steel quite a bit. I thought it was a total blast, limitations aside.

Though not overlooked by Gaf I'm sure, I'd imagine that the public at large overlooked Warioware and Trauma Center as well. My wife refused to let me sell my Wii because she loved those two so much.

Anyone know if Cruis'n is any good? I'm not really expecting a masterpiece but ever since it released I've had my eye on it.

Still looking for more multiplayer Wii games.

Is Wii Play: Motion any good? As in, even near the level of Wii Sports? It's only $12.50 on Amazon and I was thinking of grabbing it, but I don't want to be stuck with a stinker.

As a big fan of Wii Sports/Resort/Party, would WP Motion be up my alley?

sadly wii play: motion isn't as good as any of those really. the multiplayer is mostly meh aside from one or two games. you would be better off with lets tap to be honest.
