Overlooked Wii gems

de Blob was surprisingly addictive and fun. Currently playing through de Blob 2 on the PS3 and its great as well.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion was fucking phenomenal. What a surprise that was - hard, addictive and fun. Great use of IR.

I came here to mention a few games but they've already been mentioned. Namely A Boy and His Blob, Muramasa, Little King's Story and Zack & Wiki.
I also really enjoyed My Sims.

I'm not sure how under appreciated they are but World Of Goo and the Bit Trip series are fantastic

How was Battalion Wars and Red Steel 2? Tempted to pick them up, since both can be gotten for pretty cheap these days.

This thread makes me sad for the death of truly innovative middleware games, that seem to evaporate once a console is in HD. It happened with X360 and PS3 and it is happening with WiiU now.

Indie games and AAA from here on out :(

De Blob 1 or 2 is well-worth a playthrough.

If you have too much time and love repetitive games, I can recommend this title too. Same holds true for Red Steel 2.

If someone wants a really good, fun, and diverse game, then I'd rather go with Disaster, Wario Land, Another Code R, or The Last Story.

Rhythm Heaven Fever: Fun as all hell, with really catchy songs and fantastic visuals. Everything's integrated so well that if you're playing it right, people won't even be able to tell you're playing.

Sin and Punishment 2: Really great rail shooter from Treasure. I don't think Treasure is that great in general, but they knocked it out of the park with SO MANY ENEMIES and some really great level ideas in this one.

Blast Works: Really original scrolling shooter that lets you build up your ship with dead enemies, Katamari style. It's not the greatest game, but it's pretty cool.

MLB Power Pros: I feel like if I actually liked baseball this would be a knockout for me. As it is I like the idea of it, but I just can't play it for crap. It's got a pretty nice life simulation mode if you're into that sort of thing.

Castle of Shikigami III: The Shikigami games have always been very solid scrolling shooters with wacky-ass dialog.

Airport Mania: First flight: A very, very surprisingly fun Wiiware game. Really very enjoyable overall, even though it looks like the most shovelware title of all time. You direct little cutesy planes at an airport, sending them on their way with passengers and chaining takeoffs and such. Basically like a modern day Tapper game, but really just a lot more fun.

Things to check out on VC: Gate of Thunder, Star Parodier, Blazing Lazers, and Lords of Thunder. The TG-16 had some killer scrolling shooters. Gate of Thunder may be the best classic shooter I've ever played.

*Hi-five*

I was so hyped when the Wii U was revealed because I thought it could mean a BWiiU... :(
*hi-five* theres still time D:

i bought them both on day 1, dont regret them at all, my only complaint for BWII was that i prefer her design and personality from the 1st game and the black general is also gone, but its pretty much superior to the first game in every way, it even added submarine battles!

Lots of great mentions. I want to highlight one of them again:

cursed-mountain-wii-box-artwork.jpg

The combat system had its problems but everything else was great. The setting, the atmosphere - Cursed Mountain was a fantastic experience.

The Wii is probably the most underrated console ever. Tons of people still think that the Wii just offers some waggle party games and some classiv Nintendo games like Mario and Zelda. But there are tons of great games without big names like Deadly Creatures, The Godfather, Kororinpa, De Blob, Red Steel, Boom Blox, etc. I'm so glad that I played all those games. They were much more fun than each and every Call of Duty in the past several years to me.

Dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but Marble Mania: Kororinpa and its sequel, Kororinpa: Marble Saga.

Edit: Aw shit, they're quoted right below me. Well, my point below still stands.

Important note: they sort of ruined the second game by having the marble you start out with be really sticky and horrible. However, you can fix this by putting in a cheat to unlock the Figure Roller ball, which has adjustable stats and effectively fixes the entire game.

As I got a Wii before a PS3 or 360... I'd say Medal of Honor Heroes 2.
My first real taste of online multiplayer, was hard to get used to the controls, but when you do, bloody great fun!

It actually made me feel uneasy at times. Growing up in the mountains I actually was amazed at how well they captured the harsh nature of high altitudes. Mind you I'm no climber, but I am familiar with the harsh weather and environments you would encounter up high. They did a great job with the animations, making Eriks running speed actually sensible, and had they put a bit more effort into the actual climbing parts, the game could've been a masterpiece.

this is what i loved most about that game.

Yup lots of great recommendations but for me the broken motion controls on Cursed Mountain are too much for me. I want to love the game as the atmosphere is so great, but after waving my arms in all manner of ways to get the stupid thing to respond, I keep giving up and have yet to finish this game.

Manhunt 2 (Uncut through nefarious means)
Cursed Mountain
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
de Blob
Zack and Wiki

Fragile Dreams: Farewell ruins of the moon. I feel this game captures friendships pretty well. Especially after being alone.
The Sky Crawlers: Innocent aces. I really enjoyed the game and I don't think it has been mentioned. I definitely recommend it.

The Wii missed out on practically every big fighting game of the last generation, but it did manage to secure an incredible exclusive and no I'm not talking about Smash Bros.

Yeah nobody had a clue who half the characters are, but Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is easily the best fighter on the Wii and a very much overlooked game which stands as the precursor to Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Little King's Story is a masterpiece. One of the systems best games by far. Seriously; it's incredible. Few things beat walking around the kingdom.

Came to post this.

Glad I'm not the first! So much potential lost due to its crappy shovelware coverart :(

What? The boxart looks great. It's one of the best looking Wii boxarts. How is that shovelware, and how does that affect the games potential anyway?

That's in my backlog. Looking forward to it.

Red Steel 2 I'd recommend for the sword/gunplay - I thought it was great. Cursed Mountain was great for atmosphere and the novelty of the setting but I wished it was a better horror game.

PES 2012 is great if you like the idea of using the wiimote to draw routes for players on the fly. It can be a little complicated to get all the controls down but it's fun and amazing to exactly control all your players.

Fishing Resort is amazing if you like fishing games or just fish. I'm not really into fishing games but I like the collection aspect and artstyle. Not shovelware at all.

I wanted to get into this but man the original version was so unbalanced and I couldn't stand how they changed the presentation and music for the US version. Balance tweaks should have been worth it but there just wasn't enough of a scene for me to get back into it.

I'd really love to see an Excitebots sequel. The game played so good, it was just the visuals were incredibly generic. Plus there was no 4p option.

Also, Link's Crossbow Training really was surprisingly good. Reminded me of Resident Evil 4's Mercenaries mode

Also for VC, Pokemon Puzzle League is maybe the best puzzle game of all time. Refines the mechanics of Tetris Attack, playable without a crap N64 controller, and has hilarious voiceovers.

I don't know what saddens me more, the fact that we need a thread such as this to remind people of the many good games on the Wii, the fact that most of these games were in fact very much ignored by both the public and game journalists, or the fact that the Wii's library reads like an eulogy for modern Japanese game development (as many of them are Japanese games and could possibly be seen as a last ditch - but mostly unsuccesful - line of defense against the ever further dwindling popularity of Japanese console games in the West).

I strongly wonder if - in a few years time - we would be able to come up with a similarly impressive and varied list of good games for the Wii U as well. For the 3DS, absolutely, but for the Wii U I'm not so sure (not to sound to "Nintendoomed", but I fear for the worst quite frankly). I hope so though, I really do.

Sorry for the gloomy mood people...

oh man how can i forget this, picked this up a few months ago, loved it. highly recommended.
EDIT:

thsi person gets it.

Dokapon Kingdom is absolutely awful imo, I have the PS2 version. It really has the best premise of all time, but playing the game is just a bunch of random tedious crap and there's very little player interaction. Would really love to love it but it's no good imo. Worst game in my collection probably, except for just really shoddily ported stuff like Doom SNES.

Yes!

I put over a hundred hours into these two games. Their controls and level designs were so flawless, it was hard to stop playing the levels over and over again to improve my times, even after I had beaten all of the platinum times for each stage.

I'm kinda shocked no one posted this gem:

I played it when it came out and I was surprised by how good it was.
It is dfinitely one of the most overlooked/underrated Wii games I can think of.

3 pages with lots of great gems but I haven't seen this one mentioned yet:

Metal Slug Anthology

I got it for 3.99 at Kmart years ago. There is a shitload of content and fun to be had in that package.

It's probably one of the rarest, if not THE rarest, 3rd party Wii games. (And one of the most expensive ones, as well.) That could be why nobody's mentioned it.
