Just checked on my battle.net account management page and I had the beta listed. I just started my download/install through my battle.net client. I haven't pre-ordered and I did not receive any sort of alert email.

Quick edit. This is the first Blizzard beta I've gotten in via the opt-in

Don't get your hopes up about permanent beta access if you just got in today. They clearly said these would be temporary mass invite waves that run concurrently with the closed beta, not be a part of it. Would also remind you of another point:

Because Beta Test Weekends are primarily hardware- and tech-focused, the number of heroes, maps, and gameplay modes will be restricted—but feedback on everything will definitely be welcome.
