Pachter thinks NX will release in 2017, won't be very good.

Truth is Nintendo is becoming less and less relevant to hardcore audiences. It's not their main target group. Nothing wrong with that, it's just how it is. Nintendo fans still expect some kind of "resurrection" of the good old Nintendo but most people don't see this happening.

Nintendo clearly wants back into the hardcore market. Their problem is that they need to find a way of marrying it with their family-friendly brand, and it is a problem because the two have been mutually exclusive for some time. What's more, they don't really have any other choice, because there just aren't enough people buying the kind of products they make to bring in significant profit, and their most recent big audience isn't coming back now that they have free games. Nintendo needs to cultivate a market by effectively converting the one that already exists. Coming in during the middle of a generation (assuming their hardware is of a comparable standard to the competition) may also present an obstacle as much as an opportunity. Fortunately for them, what once would have been an unwise and unnecessary venture is a lot more workable due to Sony and MS dialing down their dogged, loss leading, cutting edge gen 7 strategy, which opens the door for favourable comparisons and a level playing field for potential 3rd party relations.

Nobody sane expects '90s Play It Loud Nintendo back (or '90s Sony for that matter, either), but there is room for Nintendo. They just need to have something really spectacular up their sleeve.

4 consoles with gimmicks:

I wouldn't call any of those console innovations a gimmick. Pretty much all of them have become console mainstays since thir release. Nintendo was just on the bleeding edge of gaming hardware interfaces as usual.

The NDS was the first touchscreen video game system; now every mobile gaming device has a touchscreen.

The Wii introduced functional motion controls; they have since become standard features on most controllers and are about to have a huge boost thanks to VR.

With the Wii U gamepad Nintendo made the mistake of half-assedly following a trend, rather than setting one and the result was not good.

Since Nintendo lost their ability to compete with other consoles in terms of third-party software they have relied on gameplay innovations to sell consoles. The Wii U failed to innovate and the results are exactly what one would expect.

Damn, he should have said that they weren't going to show it at E3.

Oh wow, LOL

Hopefully he's wrong on the "won't be very good" bit

Yeah, we got tons of rumor saying it's stronger than the PS4 but then those rumors also said 2016 for NX, I dunno what to believe anymore.

For a 2017 console, it better release stronger than the 2013 one.

I have no doubt NX will beat PS4 in power.

Hey guys, what's happening up there?!?!?!? Calling from hell. The whole fucking place has just turned into a refrigerator and Hitler won't stop singing jewish folk songs!!! Help!!!

They could do it with a black label like Nintendo does for mature 3DS games in Japan. If you make it known to the public that the black label stuff is not for children, you have an immediate and easily recognizable visual distinction between products targeted for specific demographics. You'll have Nintendo for everyone and Nintendo black label for adults.

Pachter was referring to Holiday 2017. If NX isn't delayed, he's still wrong.

He's probably right about it being bad though. I don't trust Nintendo to not be disappointing anymore.

I absolutely adore the amount of people who are tormented by the fact that Pachter absolutely smashed it this time. And the obvious "it's no big deal" soreness as a result.

You might not like what he says, but to pretend he isn't a smart guy is daft.

Well, guess he was right about this, now hope he isn't right about it "not being any good" because if that's true and have another Wii u flop or worse, it maybe the last console ninty ever makes again.

Crazy times ahead, e3 is going to be so bizzare this year.

It hasn't even been seen or shown to the point we don't even know WHAT it is and it's already a backwards thinking technology that isn't better than what we already have.

I think this is a new record guys.

Also doesn't bode well if Nintendo's image is so tarnished an unannounced console can pull in this type of thinking.

That... Would actually be really cool in a way. White label for Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda, and then separate black label for Metroud, F Zero, Persona tie ins and shit.

Might help Nintendo avoid having to censor shit to avoid criticism from parents who expect every game to be wholly child friendly.

NX will bomb harder than the Wiiu.

I just dont think they can pull antother Wii this time against the PS4, PS4K and PSVR.

The idea of a hibrid was good some time ago but 2017 is just too late.

on top of that, dual screen obcession will Hurt them again.

I don't understand the correlation between getting the release time correct and the prediction that the NX will just be a hybrid console that will fail. Can someone enlighten me how Pachter would know this too and why people are jumping on the assumption?

He said March

That's not what I remember. I also don't know why he would say March. Was this something that he said later? If so, it was a reaction to him being wrong about his original prediction. If it's launching this FY, November and March were the only two options to anyone paying attention. He was clearly expecting a similar schedule to Wii and Wii U though.

Pachter doesn't inspire any real conversation, provide any tangible insight or have any real inside information.

He's worthless. These threads are always just a mix of defensive posts about how he's always wrong and people pointing out the defensive posts.

I don't see what's unreasonable about his opinion. He can't predict the future im sure any better than anyone else can and I'm not sure he's pretending to either. Not sure what you are so worked up about.

This is in thread's first post
“I’ve no idea what that thing is going to be,” Pachter said, when we asked him about the NX. “I don’t think it’s coming out this year- Nintendo’s practice has been to show things a year, year and a half before they come out, so… I think they’ll show it at this E3, and I think it’ll come out next year. It might not come out in November, it might come out in March…

When you make a correct prediction, you make a correct prediction.

Nothing to say more, Patcher was right this time.
For now :p
