Pachter thinks Xbox One will now sell as many units as PS4

probably both consoles will not sell that well anyway in the first period,so whatever difference there is in units,it will be minimal

That being said: here in the UK it's launching at the same price the PS3 launched at, and I remember that was a bit of a laughing stock when it came out, despite the PS2 having been massively successful. So, compared to the £350 PS4 (bearing in mind that we're basically still in a recession and unemployment over here is I think is at its highest in so many years), the Xbox One might struggle to shift when you consider that you'll want one or two games with it on launch day. Even with bundles that's creeping up to £500.

Pachter also said the 3DS would sell out at 250$/€ and that Nintendo would regret not selling it at a higher price.

This means Xbox One will lag significantly behind PS4.

If Sony can turn around the PS3 over its life, then I don't see why MS can't do the same with Xbone. Especially with the yolk of DRM lifted from its shoulder. That's a massive barrier to entry lifted for a lot of people.

this was in japan and europe tho. That is Sony territory. Except maybe the UK

..while gladly ignoring the 5 PS4 SKU bundles?

"okay"

PS4 to Xbone preorders were 7:1. Just getting on the same DRM policy doesn't make it equal or leading out of no where.

I was only talking about sales trend. Nothing more...doesn't mean one is outselling the other.

Just a quick FYI so you don't get a ban:

I did not know this....thanks. I'll not make another post about it.

I'm going to say I think Sony has worldwide sales in the bag. I don't see how you could come to a different conclusion than that. U.S. will prolly be neck and neck though.

Why is that sad? Do you really find it so inconceivable that people could be interested in a DRM-less Xbone that you think it's 'sad' that now that the DRM is gone people are willing to buy it?

It's sad because I was hoping next generation's console war would be over and done with right from the beginning so we could see a resurgence of the PS2 era. Now we're going to end up with a repeat of this gen, and this gen was terrible.

Or PS4 hardware/software was already clogging up the top 10 for the last 2 weeks almost. If Microsoft wasn't getting stronger preorder numbers immediately following their turnaround then I'd be really concerned for them.

Both consoles will still sell through their first few shipments but if Microsoft is having yield issues, it still doesn't matter and PS4 will pull ahead with a much larger install base this holiday.

PS4 will definitely sell more individual units this holiday if the yield issues are correct, but after that it's anyone's game. Nothing's going to change from this gen. And if things stay the same as they were this gen, Microsoft wins. Sony can't survive another generation-long battle of attrition like this against Microsoft's vastly larger cash reserves - they basically had to capture a commanding, overwhelming lead from minute one or Microsoft will just brute force their way to success like they always do.

Why? The hardcore who played strictly 360 for sports/COD/BF will be right in line for it, especially now. The extra 100 is for the Kinect, which some obviously don't want, but it is cheaper than buying the first Kinect.

Except you can play all those games on the PS4 which is $100 cheaper.

The value argument couldn't even be made by Sony with their $499 PS3 which included wi-fi, blu-ray, a rechargeable controller, and free multiplayer gaming.

A better way to sell the Xbone would be to show Ryse, Kinect Sports, and DR3 (exclusively for XB1); trying to sell the XB1 with multiplatform games and being more expensive than the PS4 seems pointless in a new generation

Now that the DRM issue is gone I can definitely see MS winning NA again.

That may very well happen, but I'm not too certain. Microsoft enjoyed a whole year headstart with the xbox 360, obviously this time around, that won't be the case. Also with the PS4 being $100 dollars cheaper shouldn't be ignored. Look at how ell the cheaper pricetag help Nintendo with the Wii. It's gonna be competitive, but I can't say for certain that the Xbox One will dominate in the USA like before.

Since PS3 sold more than 360 in one year less and at a higher price, I don't see how it could be different with XB1 now that Sony will have the lower price AND the better 3rd party versions. XB1 will get destroyed by PS4 worldwide.

At least in the case of Europe I don't see what is intrinsically 'Sony' about it and why MS couldn't (at least) potentially turn it around.

I enjoyed this era much more than the PS2 era. And it bears repeating that PS2 Sony gave us PS3 Sony. If you think that's an advantage I don't know what to say.

I think Microsoft will take it in the US in all honesty. PS4 for Europe and Japan though. The market has changed so much where I think Microsoft has the advantage excluding their higher price because they typically dominate the US. I am not sure if specifications really make a difference because I think most games will look very similar and third party games will probably not take advantage of the system's strength.

I think they'll both sell out immediately, because they'll be supply constrained. Once supply improves, MS' fortunes will depend on how deeply their advertising has resonated with consumers. I think families are more likely to pick XBox over PS4 if they sell the Kinect/TV functionality as a next-gen media experience and early feedback on that experience is positive.

If consumers are ambivilant about the live TV functionality and they don't have a strong preference for the XBox brand over the PS4, then I think we'll start to see XB1's piling up on shelves in late Spring/early Summer. A $100 price difference is a fairly tough pill to swallow, especially if you're not married to either camp at this point.

I enjoyed this era much more than the PS2 era.

People already didn't buy the 360 in continental Europe when it was cheaper, why would they do it now that PS4 is both cheaper and more powerful ? I don't see why.

I think mostly because Live is not on par in other parts of europe or something?

Also its been 2 gens and MS never won eu as a whole. EU is mostly always Sony land. So is Japan with Nint/Sony

Oh and Fifa & Gran Turismo they cant win especially with GT

Pachter really enjoys being wrong. The PS4 is more powerful AND has a hundred dollar price advantage. Plus it has the consumer goodwill while MS has effectively thrown their reputation in the toilet with all their DRM nonsense. Sure it is gone now, but the exercise was very damaging.

Xbone will sell out their day one preorders eventually (should have sold them by now, Pachter....who exactly is buying the xbone to make things equal?) but with allotments at around 1/3rd to 1/4th those of PS4, I don't see how Microsoft is anywhere close to 'even' by the end of the year.

Probably going to happen. Mainstream gamers, particularly those in America, are bleeding morons. They'll swallow the $100 price difference in a second as long as it gets them their damned Call of Duty.

Some people still have their Xbox OG gamertag so yes it does matter, If your current friends list carries over then that's an even bigger incentive.

not really. Also if you wanna go there Gamescores (achievements too that means?) dont carry over so this is a silly reason

A lot of the people who decided to preorder PS4s because of DRM were just looking for Microsoft to give them an excuse to switch back, it seems.

Sad.

The only thing from my perspective the PS4 had going for it was the lack of DRM. I've been an Xbox guy since the day KOTOR came out. They lost me temporarily but I'm willing to come back. I'll wait until a price drop though or a major release like I always do. I waited for all of the following:

PS2 = MGS 2 and Victorious Boxers (FFX a month later)
Xbox = KOTOR
Xbox 360 = Oblivion
PS3 = MGS 4 and $200 price drop

They can still play these games on the 360. People are foolish if they think the COD crowed will spend 500$ to play the same game they can play on a console that they already have.

you just said it. Worldwide sales. As dominate as the Xbox 360 was in the USA, the PS3 was as dominate in the rest of the world. This may prove troublesome for Microsoft, if Sony is still dominate in the rest of the world, AND highly competitive in the USA. This would have Sony selling way more units than Microsoft. Also, like you mentioned, there is no longer a year head start for Microsoft. So how does the Xbox One catch up to the PS4?

Holiday 2014 will tell the story. The hardcore gamer will sell out both consoles for a while. If MS can getting going in Japan they are in good position.

That's what I've been seeing a lot of since yesterday. I'm personally of the belief that the PS4's current software lineup is pretty pathetic, and that without the DRM advantage all they have going for them is the price. That being said, I still (and always will) absolutely despise Microsoft as a company, so I'm stuck with PS4 by default.

I was just really hoping this gen would be an open and shut case so we could be done with this moneyhat bullshit for good. These "I can bribe more publishers than you!" spite fights don't benefit anybody.
