New at No12 is ‘Silent Hill HD Collection’ featuring Silent Hill 2: Inner Fears (an extended version of the original PS2 release) and Silent Hill 3 (first available on PS2, but never released on the Xbox format).

New at No15 is ‘Silent Hill: Downpour’, the 8th instalment in the series and the first boxed product release from Czech Republic developer Vatra.

The final new release within the Top 40 is Namco Bandai’s ‘Ridge Racer Unbounded’ at No21, with Nintendo’s ‘Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond’ showing as new at No38 (+21%) but actually released in week 12.

I think the UK in general has caught the Smartphone bug really badly, so aside from the dedicated handheld userbase, there is little interest in 3DS or Vita in general. Nintendo has at least kept in the minds of the public and children in particular so far keeping up sales but Sony have seemed to forgotten that they have launched the Vita here entirely.

Anyway, this has been quiet period before a pick-up for Easter in the next week, so the next couple of weeks figures should be interesting at least.

Especially since I've seen MK7 and 3D Land charting much higher in other European countries compared to UK in these last months...I tend to agree with you. Software wise, however, since 3DS this Holiday sold pretty well in UK too.

UK, in general, is so looking bad now that I fear there's something else besides economical crisis and fatigue from this home console gen...

Amongst all this doom and gloom I'll point out that X360 software actually rose last year. It does imply that every other format fell though, which isn't too surprising except for maybe PS3.

Virtually all physical formats registered falls in sales, apart from vinyl albums (up 44% by volume), Blu ray ( up 18.5%) and games for the Xbox 360 (up 3.3%).

Indeed. Our gaming market tracked the boom and bust of our wider economy quite well it seems. Of course I think once the next generation of consoles start rolling out with the Wii U then we'll see an uptick, but for the moment at least the market is really subdued.

GAME flopping hasn't helped the high street retail market, but if it means for increased competition by the supermarkets and possibly new specialist competition then we can see the gaming market pick up a bit soon, a few solid game releases can't hurt too.

Will we? PSP sold 185,000 in its opening gambit in the UK. Vita only managed a quarter of that. Even at this early stage, I think the Wii U will struggle unless priced low. The positive news is that the system will release in the run up to Xmas - which is traditionally a good time for Nintendo.

I want to know what effect digital purchases are having. Lately I have been buying a ton of games for PC (Steam) iPhone (App Store) and Vita (PSN) and none of them would be reflected in the charts. With the Vita having all games day & date, retail & DD, I really want to see the DD figures. I doubt they're impressive, I'd just like a fuller picture.

The last game I bought was Draw Something, but that's not to say I've shifted smartphone, because the only games I play on that are Angry Birds, Cut the Rope and Draw Something. And even then, I'd much rather play something on my 3DS.

I rented MGS:HD and MGS 3D and I have Kid Icarus on the way via LoveFilm. I know that I can't justify £35+ a month on games right now... let alone more often. I'm saving for Wii-U now because I know that down the line I won't be able to afford it otherwise.

The issues around GAME will have had an impact, as much as people would like to hate on them and demean their existence. Their stock situation has been dire over this administration saga, and half of their stores are closed... supermarkets aren't as thorough with their stock, and games aren't the first thing on peoples' minds when they're braving an ASDA or Sainsburys for a food shop. We don't have many first-hand multi-media retail outlets anymore - HMV are the last of their kind.

This is not a good time for the UK industry, but its a period of adjustment that I'm sure we'll come through..

Gosh, I'd hate to be releasing any games in this climate. It doesn't seem worth it for the paltry couple of thousand people buying em. I must admit I feel out of the loop of what games come out when these days. I wasn't aware Silent Hill Downpour came out, there's so little excitement it seems for a lot of games except something like CoD and big blockbuster style games. But what the hell are Capcom thinking releasing 2 (nee 3) SH's in the same week???

UK Market right now is scaring me also because basically consumers are just buying blockbusters / sport games. They're concentrating their money on them, and almost not buying anything else. Maybe this whole general contraction is also caused by iOS / Android market which people is embracing more than ever due to economic conditions, and so the not notable releases suffer a lot, but maybe it's just me exaggerating, in this.
