BKK, nice find for the SA data. Thanks.

The unit sales picture in the UK is very alarming. Monthly comparisons (i.e. not YTD):
January: -28%
February: -31%
March: -34%

The monthly revenue picture is more mixed:
January: -30%
February: -25%
March: -33%

I have a bad feeling about March NPD results in US. :(

It will be difficult for US to match the UK's 33% software revenue decline at least (it's a shame that NPD doesn't generally give out overall software unit sales).

I won't give out platform breakdowns (which would generally be only estimates from me anyway) but are you interested in software unit sales by month? I can do that.

U.S. console + handheld (excludes PC)

Units (monthly):
January: -33%
February: -22%

Revenue (monthly):
January: -38%
February: -23%

Thanks, the situation in US actually seems to be just as bad as UK, a 33% drop in revenue seems quite possible for US aswell, especially as UK numbers were somewhat helped by FIFA Street which never saw an equivalent release in 2011. Are you able to give out actual overall unit figures, or just %?

I'll try to get this later. Sorry. :)

Wii, NDS and PSP are dead. PS Vita is currently a flop, 3DS barely sells software outside of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 and both HD consoles suffer a logical recession. Hence the terrible figures.

Software-wise we can't overlook the fact that there has been a plethora of underwhelming releases.

Software since 1996 = £18.3bn / Top Five = £3bn (16%) / Top Ten = £4.5bn (25%)

Title Count shows the number of iterations of each game all the way back to the ‘80s. Only sales since 1996 are included.

This analysis is up to and including week ending February 11th, 2012. Some brands will already have added to their Title Count (e.g FIFA Street, Uncharted, UFC, Syndicate).

Brands can be companies, characters, a series and so on. FIFA and Mario are both brands, despite one being licensed and a company and the other an original IP.

^Cool, only getting top 5 a week late from SELL sucks.

Naruto has been a big surprise, #1 in Germany & France, #2 in Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway. Even UK position at #6 in All Formats isn't too bad for an Anime based game. I wouldn't be surprised to see it at #1 in Italy too.

http://ukie.info/content/ukie-week-14-2012-uk-video-games-charts

The force is strong this week as Microsoft’s ‘Kinect Star Wars’ brings EA’s five week run at the top to an end, pushing ‘FIFA Street’ (+3%) down to No2. It’s the first Star Wars game to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart since ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ back in W39 2008. It’s also the first game that requires use of the Kinect Sensor to top the chart. EA have still had a good Easter holiday, grabbing the rest of the Top 5 with ‘Mass Effect 3’ (+0%) down one place to No3, ‘FIFA 12’ (+48%) up one place to No4 and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13’ (-10%) slipping two places to No5. There are healthy holiday sales uplifts for the rest of the Top 10 with ‘Modern Warfare 3’ (+76%) up one place to No6, ‘SSX’ (+72%) gaining 3 places, up to No7 and ‘Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games’ (+66%) up one to No8. Previous No1s ‘Battlefield 3’ (+55%) and ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ (+57%) round off the Top 10 at No’s 9 and 10 respectively. ‘Skylanders’ (+130%) and ‘Moshi Monsters’ (+92%) make the most of Easter Holiday spending, surging up the chart to No’s 12 and 13. Price promotions propel ‘Street Fighter X Tekken’ (+141%), WWE ’12 (+110%) and ‘Sonic Generations’ (+88%) back into the Top 40 at No’s 20, 22 and 24, while the only other new entry this week is ‘Devil May Cry HD Collection’ debuting at No18.

So many things rising... However, I seriously don't understand why Kid Icarus, after a good second week, had such a big drop. Maybe shortages? I don't want to sound like Sony people, but it hadn't had such a big drop last week. Bah, maybe single SKUS chart will make things look better in the end. I think BKK has a big role in all this. XD

I think the qucik price dropping we see on games now has had a huge effect in the UK.

People wanna pay full price for the big titles but everything else it seems they just wanna wait a few weeks to it comes down and try and pick it up on the cheap.

From Eurogamer
12 per cent of people buying Kinect Star Wars bought the game in a bundle with the new R2D2-flavoured console, worth £350.

They probably sold at least 4-5 thousand bundles based on ME3 and FIFA Street sales in previous weeks.

Hasn't this been a proven trend on all 3DS software titles that aren't Mario Kart / Land? ie titles just drop in and out of Top40 in rapid succession (after the small number of dedicated gamers have made their purchase)?

There is, as yet, just no software eco-system on the 3DS beyond the said core Nintendo titles in the UK.

Ah, my mistake. I saw my local Asda promoting it today and I assumed it had only just come out.

I wonder why Microsoft didn't go heavy with the advertising. You'd have assumed a Disney / Pixar related game would have had a shot at reasonable sales.
