505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+16%) just won’t quit, easily ahead of the rest of the pack at the top of the All Formats Chart again this week (outselling the next four titles combined!). This means that it has now had an impressive 8 consecutive weeks at No1.

Even more impressive is it’s total of 11 weeks at the top which puts it in joint 3rd place (with two FIFA titles, FIFA: Road To The World Cup 98 and FIFA Soccer '96), although there’s still a long way to go to beat Who Wants To Be A Millionaire which had 18 weeks at No1 and Wii Fit which had 16 weeks. Two very different racing titles hold No2 and No3 this week with Codemasters’ ‘Dirt 3’ increasing in sales by 50% thanks to price promotions, racing up the charts to No2 and forcing Disney’s ‘Cars 2’ (-16%) down a place to No3. No4 and No5 remain the same with Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2: Extra Songs’ (-4%) and Disney’s ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-6%).

EA’s ‘FIFA 11’ (-6%) moves up to No6 in anticipation of the new football season, ahead of two Harry Potter games, EA’s ‘Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallow Part 2’ (-19%) holding No7 and Warner Bros.’ ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ (+24%) back in the Top 10 at No8. The Top 10 is rounded off by Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘L.A. Noire’ (-15%) staying put at No9 and last week’s No3 now at No10, Ubisoft’s ‘Call of Juarez: The Cartel’ (-51%). It’s been another quiet week with no new releases making it into the Top 40.

It's pretty apparent that the pricecut did wonders for the Wii.

How so? zumba and just dance have sold well forever now. There is nothing out to buy at all atm too which means they are top of the charts for the past few weeks.

Zumba Fitness showing off its fierce fangs.

There is a big probability that UK's top 10 for the gen looks like something like this right now :

1) Black Ops
2) Modern Warfare 2
3) World at War
4) Wii Fit
5) Mario Kart Wii
6) Modern Warfare
7) Just Dance
8) Just Dance 2
9) Wii Play
10) Zumba Fitness

Hey, would have bet on that in 2006 (of course, Modern Warfare 3 will enter the list as well in the forthcoming months).

Will people ever stop buying Mario Kart Wii?

Mario Kart 7 will kill it ;)

Well, no. But it will add another regular Mario Kart line in the charts all the way up to 2014.

Now that I think about that, when was the last time we got a UK chart without any Mario Kart title in the top 40 ?

How so?

You must have missed the other wii titles in the chart like Mario kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort and
Wii fit, all older titles that made a return into the top 20 as of late.
You know, the evergreen titles that have sold millions of wiis before.

Mario Kart is definitely a franchise that while it always had a degree of popularity has really exploded this gen. MKWii and DS combined are over 50 million units by now

So for this generation the UK is dominated by Call of Duty and Wii stuff.

Of course it's mid summer so sales are slow, but Zumba is still probably selling very well, especially as it is increasing sales w/w. I hope the summer lull doesn't harm Deus Ex: Human Revolution too much, but we'll see soon enough.

As soon as I've shuffled, out of breath, to the bus-stop.

Wii Fit was about to snatch that record, but Nintendo announced/released Wii Fit Plus and it all went down the drain. :(

Zumba Fitness showing off its fierce fangs.

There is a big probability that UK's top 10 for the gen looks like something like this right now :

1) Black Ops
2) Modern Warfare 2
3) World at War
4) Wii Fit
5) Mario Kart Wii
6) Modern Warfare
7) Just Dance
8) Just Dance 2
9) Wii Play
10) Zumba Fitness

Hey, would have bet on that in 2006 (of course, Modern Warfare 3 will enter the list as well in the forthcoming months).

As already pointed out you're missing a few FIFAs :)

Mmm...I would say to wait for the individual chart.
In these days of lull, there are major differences that affects exclusives titles.
For example...Zelda.
In the multi chart, it was 39th.. in the individual, 21st.

What's going on with Dirt? Why is it doing better on consoles and why does everyone on GAF have it on Steam for free? Is it some charity shit? I know there was a give away of some sort with AMD, but that can't be all.

This week ends August 13, unlike US, UK stores, like Amazon, didn't have preorders for the new price and they just dropped the price after the Ambassadors promotion ended, so it is basically just one day sales, without any preorder.

regardless, I don't expect RE:M to be the game to chart, probably Pilot Wings, Nintendo Dogs, etc. Definitely not RE:M unless it significantly drops in price, after all the shit that was headed to it

Everyone got at least three Steam codes for that game through AMD, so yeah, it was probably that promotion.

And Zelda's sales would surely be more frontloaded than the likes of Nintendogs + Cats or Pilotwings Resort, so naturally, Zelda would also be the first choice from those waiting on the fence.

Will be interesting to see how the price drop affects its legs and the sales of expanded audience games like Nintendogs + Cats.

The retail promotional push on the 3DS price has been pretty crap where I am, at least as far as I've seen. I was in Gamestop this morning, looking at the 3DS shelf, and there was NOTHING about the price cut on the 3DS shelf. Not even on the hardware boxes (which, btw, were lined at the bottom of the shelf). The actual 3DS shelf itself looked as undifferentiated from the DS shelves as it always did.

Anyway, I don't get it. Thought they'd be screaming about it from the rooftops, but maybe it's just the stores around here.

A 60% increase in week-over-week sales in response to the 3DS price drop is very weak.
did you read what I posted?

edit: post above me shows that even now it may not have full coverage.

Definitely, after all OoT seems to be one the best releases this year over all, and I am sure a handful of people, like me, have never player OoT before.

What's more interesting, is that till now the installed base seems to be more inclined toward a core game, rather than casual stuff.

Smartphones may really be at work after all...

It probably means that hardware sales doubled, so maybe not the response NIntendo was hoping for but it's a slow period for gaming sales.
As Iwata said 3DS fate will be decided during the next holyday season.

Zelda OoT has a 30% odd attach rate so far, so rightfully, we should be seeing hardware sales at least triple.

But still, you're right. The full effect won't be seen until the holiday season when the big games come out.

That math doesn't follow. If say half of OoT weekly sales were going to the installed base and half to new buyers, then a 60% increase translates into about a 2x increase in weekly hardware sales.

I'll give it the benefit of teh doubt since it is only 2 days of sales, but still seems weak.
