Launched on Tuesday, ‘Destiny: The Taken King’ is crowned No1 this week.

It gives Activision Blizzard their first All Formats top spot since ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ in W6 2015. The PS4 version claims a 57% share, Xbox One 34%, Xbox 360 7% and PS3 2%. A major expansion for a game released just over a year ago, launch sales of ‘The Taken King’ represent 16% of the original’s debut. There are also new entries at No2 and No3 with ‘Forza Motorsport 6’ starting its engines at No2 and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2016’ kicking off at No3. ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ (-54%) gets knocked off No1, dropping to No4, ahead of ‘Mad Max’ (-45%) at No5 and ‘Super Mario Maker’ (-58%) at No6. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+3%) is a non-mover at No7, while ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ (-18%) is forced down 4 places to No8.

There are 2 more new titles that make the Top 40 this week, ‘Rugby League Live 3’ from Alternative Software scrums down at No9 in time for the start of the Rugby World Cup, while EA’s ‘NHL 16’ starts life at No15. Xbox One retailer hardware bundling gives a boost to ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+124%), up from No24 to No14 and ‘Titanfall’ (+265%), a re-entry at No25.

Pretty underwhelming numbers it seems but at least Destiny would have had a big digital share too. PES is a forgotten franchise but I certainly thought Forza had more pull. Maybe 3 games already this gen from the brand and people have become fatigued.

To be fair they had 2 days of sales for Forza 6.

Forza has legs though, it will be sitting in the lower end of the charts for the next 9 months. Forza has not hit number one yet this generation. If Destiny was not out this week it might have got it.

Fifa is out this week so it won't get the chance.

Forza games never make a big slash in their first week in the UK. Why would this title follow any different sales pattern?

Forza performance is a distater. No other way to describe it.

It's the mainline series, decent marketing campaign and it loses out to an expansion that only collectors bought....

Potentially ~30k or under though? Thought sales were far better than this for one of the premier racing brands. That just seems very low to me.

Edit: Yep worse than Horizon. Potentially twice as bad.

For the first weeik? yes. But I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually outsells FH2. This is not a CoD/AC/Battlefield kind of a title with the majority of the sales happening in the first week.

Or maybe Horizon series will become bigger than Motorsport because it's more friendly to mainstream.
I won't be surprised in 2 years later, Forza 7 not doing better than Forza 6, even have bigger install base.

Forza is a spent force. Too many releases with no real difference (and honestly nothing to be excited over) and I'd say more competition with Project Cars.

Forza 6 is underperforming but it's not very surprising imo. I think that overall we're seeing a decline for the genre and it becoming more and more of a niche.

I don't see anyone greenlighting a new high budget racing game either for something to reverse the trend (maybe a GT spin off but I don't think Polyphony would outsource the IP to anyone)

Yea Horzion 2 and not really an expansion any more as it is its own thing and I think Horzion 3 will do better than 2 as well. As I'm into Horzion but not normal Forza as just driving round tracks doesn't interest me.

Also I'm surprised at the numbers of TTK as thought more people would have brought it (guess the original disappointment still effects a lot of people)

Forza 6 is sitting at <400,000 a week after release its doing just fine.

I got that number by checking the Rio track for the S class leader boards(anyone who plays the game with an online connection will post a time). I'm currently ranked 135,000 and in the top 32% of scores.

Everyone loves overacting in sales threads.

Thats physical not digital.

Activision also said more players on Taken King than at launch and broke download records..... So at face value physical + digital > 400 K ? That is allot of digital.

Remember that TTK is a 19 GB download that came 1 week before the release which was just an activation.

16 % in my view is mainly the special and collectors editions and new Destiny players.

So what was the FIFA split last year?

Are we expecting PS4 to build a better share this year like has been the case for everything or can it buck the trend with it being bundled on Xbox again perhaps?

Not trying to spin, but i think with more people use EA Access, XB1 FIFA 16 physical sales will be lower(higher rate of digital sales).

Forza 4 gets over a 100k while releasing on a Friday like Forza 6. Quite a drop for Forza 6.

People didn't buy forza 6 because they are waiting on forza 7.

Sometimes I wonder why people think EA access has some kind of meaningful subscription rate.

Plus sports games are one of the genres to skew more to physical sales anyway because you can trade in every year towards the new version. Getting close to 50% off instead of the 10% access gives you.
