EA bring down the curtain on Q3 with a record breaking launch for ‘Fifa 17’. The latest addition to the football franchise is almost 18% up on the debut week of ‘Fifa 16’.

It also edges past ‘Fifa 13’ to become the highest week one in the series ever. PS4 takes over 53% of week 1 share despite the presence of the Xbox One S (1TB & 500GB) editions, both of which include a copy of the game. Xbox One still accounts for a healthy share over 40%, while both Xbox 360 and PS3 combine for a 6% share. Xbox One exclusive ‘Forza Horizon 3’ races comfortably into second place eclipsing the week 1 sales of last year’s ‘Forza Horizon 2’ by 12%. It also takes a podium spot for week 1 sales for Forza (both Motorsport & Horizon) titles placing as the 3rd best launch for the series overall.

Various retail promotions allow previous chart topper ‘Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (+127%) to climb up to No3. ‘Bioshock: The Collection’ (-43%) slips down to No4 after back to back weeks at the top of the chart. ‘XCom 2’ lands at No5 for both PS4 and Xbox One charting as a re-entry thanks to the PC version, which launched in February this year. ‘Destiny: The Collection’ (-24%) drops three places to No7 in its second week. Elsewhere in the Top 40 ‘Super Mario 3D World’ (+999%) is bolstered by the arrival of Nintendo Selects version, propelling it up to No32. ‘Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2’ (+66%) continues its week on week growth up to No39.

Fifa 17 is crazy strong in Europe.. I live on some small Islands (Faroe Islands), we are something like 49.000 people up here.
Two stores had midnight open for the Fifa Launch. Here is a video (which I found on Facebook) from one of the launches...(sorry for the bad quality)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yar6Vt167gk&feature=youtu.be

lots of people lining up for this game, especially if you consider the size of the Islands and the potential customer base.

Suprised at the 53% for PS4 with the bundling and the marketing for the XBO.

I also thought Horizon would do much, much better then 2 with the stellar reviews, because i remember 2's numbers didn't pull up any trees.

a reasonably high entrance for the XCOM 2 console version, Firaxis can't have expected more. Though numbers are probably still low for 5th place this week and not comparable at all to next month.

Wow, check out those Uncharted 4 legs in Germany. I say legs because the game came out months ago yet it's still in the top 3, hence the legs, because it's been hanging around the charts for a long time, and when a game does that it has legs, which Uncharted 4 unequivocally has. Legs.

Wow, check out those Uncharted 4 legs in Germany. I say legs because the game came out months ago yet it's still in the top 3, hence the legs, because it's been hanging around the charts for a long time, and when a game does that it has legs, which Uncharted 4 unequivocally has. Legs.

you should've added some heavy lifting gifs in there

PS4 takes over 53% of week 1 share despite the presence of the Xbox One S (1TB & 500GB) editions, both of which include a copy of the game. Xbox One still accounts for a healthy share over 40%
I wonder how the hardware story is for this week with that.

Why were the charts of this week deleted?

They weren't deleted, they haven't updated yet, they are late this week.

I also thought Horizon would do much, much better then 2 with the stellar reviews, because i remember 2's numbers didn't pull up any trees.

Forza Horizon is now more popular than the main series (Forza Motorsport).

If we compare Forza Horizon 3 (Xbox One only) to Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One version) then it is 53% up.

Fifa and PES review and sales show the network effect is too big for PES to overcome.
And Licences.

Yup. The day PES somehow gets a right to use full licenses like FIFA can, I think they might start balancing out the scale a bit (these things aren't set in stone after all) but right now it's basically impossible. They let themselves fall down way too much to compete sales-wise.

That said, still going with PES. Had a lot more fun with that demo.

Damn. That pretty good for a spin off serie. Second place as a racing game is pretty good nowadays.

Reviews don't really matter for games like FIFA and Call of Duty. They'll sell their 15-20 million whether they review well or not.

Suprised at the 53% for PS4 with the bundling and the marketing for the XBO.

The PS4/Fifa bundle for £150 would've helped.

Playstation had a crazy sale that included FIFA 17 for £150 as Sony were trying to get rid of old stock to make way for the slim.

FIFA numbers are crazy but that was expected. I predicted 990k so a bit off.

Nice to see UC4 still being an ever present mainstay in many EU charts.

What were pes 17 numbers in its first week?

Not even in the same sport let alone league lol

Code:
[Week 37, 2016] [B]PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) 21,000-27,000[/B]

01 (NE) PS4 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) 15,100-19,400
07 (NE) XBO PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) 4,200-5,400
39 (NE) PS3 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) 840-1,080
XX (NE) 360 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) 630-810

It also edges past ‘FIFA 13’ to become the highest week one in the series ever.

The funny thing is that in reality FIFA 13 is still best in the series when we estimate for total UK market :p

FIFA 13 (100%) - 1,222,000
FIFA 17 (100%) - 1,166,000

Evidently this is retail only, if we include digital FIFA 17 is the best selling week one.

Not really. If it didn't beat a strategy game that's been out on PC for months and a remaster collection, it would have been a disaster.

Great entry for FH3, Playground Games now hold the best first week sales for the franchise, that's bloody impressive, especially considering this is a game by a second party that were hired to create a Forza spin off.

The game should have legs as well, I expect good sales through the rest of the year.

Forza games tends to hold especially well all the year in the UK charts, so that +12% launch is a good news for the continuation of the franchise. I can't see Microsoft stopping the Motorsports / Horizon cycle strategy anytime soon.

Good to hear about Horizon, I think this will sell well over the months ahead here in the UK. Congrats Playground :)

Yeah, that series is a monster. Minecraft Xbox shot up the charts from last week.

Why MCV has not started giving top 30 or top 40 softwares for PS4?

already we are getting around 17 - 20 PS4 titles in Individual format.

Though I would be 100% okay with a third game (rally?) and a 3-year cycle for each.

An increase in Forza Horizon sales is good and they tend to stay in the charts for a long time. It was never going to blow the doors off and buck the trend of previous games.

For those who just look at placings, nearly every other week it would be 1st. FIFA is like COD in sales.

Massive for Fifa. No surprise there though, especially with the £150 PS4 bundles and XBONE deals.

Not sure why all the shocked reactions are to the PS4 version selling more. The Xbox/Fifa deals have been there since the start of the gen at least and even though it's strongly bundled with the Slim, the Xbox is still a good chunk behind the PS4 user base and those crazy £150 PS4s would have worked their magic.

Forza as expected although good for the series to be up on last year's launch.

Recore completely forgotten about already.
