PAL Charts - Week 39, 2016

I suppose I'm just projecting. I have had a ps4 since launch and swore off the Xbone since launch, but it really feels like Sony are more than a little complacent recently. Whether or not the average consumer feels as I do -especially given Sony's aggressive pricing strategies- is another matter entirely. It would be nice to see Sony and Microsoft duke it out some more, because it seems like Sony have already decided they've won and it's only MS putting any effort in.
Complacent? They are basically launching a whole new format with PSVR and have a big refresh to the PS4 family, let's not forget thier line up would have massive titles in it like gt and a massive new ip from the makers of kill zone if they were to rush thier teams to ship games. People are so short sighted at times, they will have sunk a ton into PSVR and ps pro and would've had some really mega titles this winter if not for allowing the teams time to polish the games.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I just don't see this viewpoint at all. They're the first console manufacturer to jump in with virtual reality, and they're putting out PS4 Pro in a couple of months. Meanwhile, both of their competitors are twiddling their thumbs, telling us how great their new consoles will be, without showing anything of meaningful substance.

I can understand if none of what Sony's got coming out appeals to you, but to insinuate they're sitting doing nothing is insane. They're doing more than the competition -- despite being on top.

This,

I don't know how Sony is being complacent when their console has the biggest library and will be the only one with VR and a Pro version for a year.

If anything Sony's the one who's doing the most.

Sony's aggressive pricing strategies? Sony not putting any effort? uh?

I'm a huge Granturismo fan but I so wish Horizon gets similar sales numbers, PG deserve much more than that.
Like all console exclusive IPs competing with an established leader Forza is always "on the wrong platform".

The series does well (Historically particularly helped by bundling) but its a genre that does best in PAL on a console that limits it market share wise.

Horizon is a great expansion of Forza and is clearly growing but peak franchise GR numbers are surely way out of reach - at least on console. On PC who knows how it might grow if given chance?

UK Charts: Forza Horizon 3 sold 12% more than Forza Horizon 2 in its first week, third best launch for Forza series.

I know we are talking about incredibly low numbers here, but after a quick look I think Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is the first Vita game to get on an individual format chart this year (31st on the value chart) and the first Vita-exclusive to get in the all formats full price chart (34th).

At a glance it seems pretty good in comparison to similar games, but not sure we can really read anything meaningful into it. Still, I thought it was notable.

I think it does (until September 30) if not FIFA wasn't on the list.

PS4 sales up 380% on back of £149 bundles

Sony’s PlayStation 4 has returned to the top of the weekly UK hardware race following a number of cut-price bundles.

Sales of the console climbed 380 per cent week-on-week, thanks to a 359 per cent boost to original PS4 sales, according to GfK hardware figures for the week ending October 1st obtained by MCV. Overall PS4 sales were 55 per cent higher than Xbox One.

However, sales of Microsoft’s machine fell by just 16 per cent, which is impressive considering the 989 per cent spike it enjoyed the previous week.

And Xbox One S sales remained 24 per cent higher than PS4 Slim, although PS4 claimed an overall market share of 57 per cent.

The PS4 sales spike followed widespread deals by several retailers, including Tesco, GAME, Argos and ShopTo, offering an original non-slim PS4 and a copy of either FIFA 17 or LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens for just £149 - £110 short of the RRP.

This was almost certainly an attempt to clear stock of the older machines ahead of efforts to shift the slim console in the run-up to Christmas, and before of the release of the PS4 Pro on November 10th.

Week 39, 2016 Hardware Data

PlayStation 4 (57%) [+380%]
Xbox One (37%) [-16%]
Others (6%)

Xbox One S had a great second week hold, Microsoft comeback is real!
At least until the release of PlayStation 4 Pro.

I think it does (until September 30) if not FIFA wasn't on the list.

Evidently, but the sales figures I posted for some games based on Spanish data from Vandal Radio don't include FIFA 17 week.

Thanks to FIFA 17, Week 39, 2016 overall software sales were 11.4% up by units and 8.3% up by revenue over last year.

FIFA 17 with 1.16 million units sold accounted for 81.5% of all entertainment software this week. To put its impressive launch into perspective, in 3 days it sold more than all Nintendo platforms combined during the first 9 months of 2016.

But there is only so much the mighty FIFA 17 can do, and September overall software sales were 15.8% down by units and 16.7% down by revenue.

[Week 39, 2016] ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - 1,423,866 units (+11.4%) / £58.8m (+8.3%)
[Week 39, 2015] ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - 1,278,359 units / £54.3m

[September, 2016] ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - 2,203,678 units (-15.8%) / £81m (-16.7%)
[September, 2015] ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - 2,617,572 units / £97.2m

.Overall a very good hold for Microsoft.

But this clearly explains that , the console with lowest price will always come first in sales, irrespective of the brand!!

Tell that to Nintendo when there were Wii U firesales.

What you call firesales was still too expensive for what the WiiU offers to non diehards Nintendo fans. I would have one by now if firesales really happened.

I mean, £99 should have worked really. I don't think they'll get lower.

That wasn't widespread I think, and the few units at that price surely were sold. The thing is that the stock of WiiU has been very low since the first year so firesales were not really a thing

The lower that it went in my country is 200€

Not actually that important
A little bird told me that Record sold >5k on X1 at retail, does that matches with you guys' calculations?
Trying to see if this source has been giving me legit numbers for this and other titles...

First week sales are in that range based on the Xbox One version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 and Overwatch (all formats). LTD after 3 weeks should be at around or close to 10,000 units. It is hard to be extra accurate with such a low figures.

This week Recore sold approximately 1,500 units.

33 (13) RECORE (MICROSOFT) ~ 1,500 (-45%)

Mafia III is this week's biggest release and Take-Two have great hopes for it. They are placing Mafia alongside Borderlands and BioShock as one their tentpole brands. Will they be able to establish it as one of the industry's larger triple A-brands?

Mafia II sold about six million units worldwide.

Here is how the series sold in its UK launch:

[Week 36, 2002] 06 (NE) MAFIA (TAKE 2) - 22,000 / NEW*
[Week 34, 2010] 01 (NE) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 75,000 / NEW

*This is the combined launch week total of the PC [Week 36, 2002], PS2 [Week 05, 2004] and Xbox [Week 15, 2004] versions.

Code:
[Week 34, 2010] 01 (NE) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 75,000 / NEW
[Week 35, 2010] 01 (01) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 57,800 / 132,800 (-23%)
[Week 36, 2010] 01 (01) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 24,300 / 157,100 (-58%)
[Week 37, 2010] 03 (01) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 12,900 / 170,000 (-47%)
[Week 38, 2010] 08 (03) MAFIA II (TAKE 2) - 8,600 / 178,600 (-33%)

05 (02) PS4 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2017 (KONAMI) - 2,500 / 17,500

I have no words for the PlayStation 4 version of FIFA 17, that's a crazy launch, by far the best in the series on a single console. Most of PlayStation 3 users have finally moved to PlayStation 4.

Note that Fifa figures are the combined total of Fifa 17 + Fifa 17 Deluxe Edition.

I feel bad for Pro Evolution Soccer.

[Week 39, 2016] PS4 FIFA 17 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) - 213,000 / NEW

MINECRAFT: XBOX EDITION (MICROSOFT) > 21,000

Plus, the overall numbers are really huge

So 249,000 Unit for FIFA 17 First week in Spain... I think it's going to be very Close with Italy, if FIFA 16 did 200k, considering FIFA 17 sold better everywhere, +250K in Italy Are totally possible.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, what was usually cited as the reason to never buy one?

some because 'they were already over gaming', some because a pc is all they needed and the ps4 was weak.

And sadly a few because it can't be pirated and they didn't want to pay for games, that's still a reality here even if we've advanced a lot in the past years.

‘FIFA 17’ (-79%) dominates the All Formats Chart at No1 for a second week, ahead of 2K’s ‘Mafia III’ which lands at No2 with the biggest ever launch in the series.

Debut week sales for ‘Mafia III’ are up 58.7% compared to the launch of ‘Mafia II’, although the previous release managed to chart at No1 when it came out over six years ago. ‘Forza Horizon 3’ (-71%) makes way, slipping one place to No3, while ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-1%) jumps up 6 places to No4, still enjoying the benefits of a retailer promotion. ‘Rocket League’ (-18%) is still proving popular, up 3 places to No5, while ‘Bioshock: The Collection’ (-43%) and ‘XCom 2’ (-40%) both slide two places to No’s 6 and 7 respectively. Take 2 however can comfort themselves with the fact that they have 4 titles in the Top 10. It would have been 5, but ‘NBA 2K17’ (-50%) drops from No9 to No15 this week. Only 3 other new releases make the Top 40 – ‘Paper Mario: Color Splash’ is new for Wii U at No14, ‘Ride 2’ starts its engines at No20 and ‘Warhammer: The End Times – Vermintide’ squeaks in at No34. Next week ‘FIFA 17’ will be up against ‘Gears of War 4’…
