I don't think I understand the launch title excuse. Halo was a launch title for the Xbox, but Halo 2 still sold more. If the first game is good, then you would expect people to want the sequel. I can understand losing interest in a non-story driven game sequel (like PGR4 and Motorstorm 2), but Resistance is (from what I've heard) anything but that.
What i mean with the launch title excuse (which i think is an "valid" excuse or what i shall say

) is that launch titles can have an advantage over other games that are released maybe some years after the launch of a gaming system.
When people buy a console at launch, then i assume that people usually want to buy one or several of games to the gaming system as well. If you have i.e 10 games to choose from at launch, then people might want to chose the game(s) that looks the most interesting out of those 10 games. When a sequel to a launch title game is released i.e 2 years later, then you might have i.e 50 games to choose from compared to the 10 games that you had to choose from at launch. The competition is then bigger and other games might seem more interesting to people, which might result in a lower opening to the game(s) that has a sequel to a game that was released at a console launch.
Of course, in the end it does down to how much interest the people have in the game(s). If people have a high interest for a game, then there might be a bigger chance that this game will see a higher sale compared to if the interest for a game is lower. If the interest for a game (like Halo 2 as you mention) increases, then the sales for the sequel might have a good chance to sell more than the previous game(s) in the serie

I am not saying anything against that. I just wanted to say that being a launch title might be more benefitial compared to another game (or a sequel) that is released i.e 2 years after the launch of a gaming system.
However, a lower opening to a sequel does not necessarily mean that the people didnt enjoy the previous game(s). To take an example about my situation, i would say that i enjoyed the 3 previous Prince of Persia games, but right now i have no plans on buying the newly released Prince of Persia game sometime in the near future.
It is not because i didnt like the previous Prince of Persia games that i wont buy the new Prince of Persia game soon, it is mostly because that i feel that i already have enough games to play right now. My interest for the new Prince of Persia isnt exactly mega high either, but i do have plans to get the game

I will most likely buy the new Prince of Persia game sometime in the future, but right now i have no dircet plans on when i will buy it.
I think that there is a possibilty that this could be the same situation with Resistance 2 as well, that people might be waiting to buy it. It is not like that i belive that Resistance 2 will see a huge boost in sales in the upcomming weeks or anything, but i think that Resistance 2 can end up selling relatively good eventhought that the launch seems to be lower compared to how the launch was with Resistance 1.
Another thing we can think about is the userbase. The userbase of the PS3 is bigger now then it was around the first weeks and months after the launch of the PS3. If the userbase is bigger, then it might be a bigger chance that more people will buy a game, because then it might more potentional customers compared to if the userbase was smaller.
I think it is very hard to say how the situation is with Resistance 2 though (or any other game that is in the same situation with a slower start compared to the previous games in a serie). People who bought a PS3 relatevely late after the launch might not have picked up Resistance 1 since there are now more games to choose from at launch.
I am sorry for the relatively long reply here, but to sum up it: Being a launch title might have some advantages because at launch there are usually less games to choose from compared to i.e 2 years after the launch of a gaming system.
If a sequel to a game sells less copies in the first week(s) compared to the previous game(s) in a serie, then i think it doesnt necessarily means that they didnt enjoy the previous game(s) in the serie. It can be several of reasons why they wait to buy it. Or it can be that they have lost the interest or didnt enjoy the previos game(s) in the serie of course. It is hard to say :\ But what i just wrote are just my opinions and my thoughs around that Resistance 2 seemed to have a slower launch compared to Resistance 1.

No, but it was very apparant that he was eager to mention the PS3 even if it didn't fit the topic. He said it in the usual pathetic forum way; You know like he was thinking that to mention the PS3 as much as he can, no matter the context, that it in some way helps him, Sony and the PS3 to..."win". Trust me, it was weird.
Ye, i can understand that, i was just wondering how he acted

Thanks for the answer!
