R2 sold 2/3's of R1 first week, so thats that, doesnt matter what number on the chart is.

This just confirms LBP as best selling holiday title for PS3 world wide.
Biggest title this year...

...confirmed!

Selling less then it's original is something to be proud of?

Fuggin' Zavvi!

Their ordering/account management on the web is offline and replaced with a huge message about how they're cancelling all orders for dvds, games etc where they cannot guarantee delivery. They say they'll email people about cancelled orders but I haven't heard anything. Is it coming? Do I need to buy elsewhere?!

So yeah, blame R2's chart position on Zavvi dicking around with my order.

Wii Music is looking less and less bombastic by the day.

Edit: What is the Wii Music advertising situation in the PAL territories? It's really starting to get pushed on TV in the US.

In Germany I see it constantly on tv. Its the usual family centric approach - guess it´ll sell steady through the holidays at least.

I see Wii Music ads quite often. May depend on the channel... Watch a lot of Pro7 and Spongebob Channel (Nick)

But I also have the impression that Mario Kart is advertised heavier.

LBP is FINALLY getting some hardcore advertising in the UK (Saw an ad at least 3 times last night). Quality issues aside (It was shit), getting the game some exposure should save it from oblivion, I hope.

Yeah, I've noticed them a fair bit in the last few days. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I still always see a tonne of Wii/DS ads regardless. And now, LBP ads have crept into the mix too so I guess they must be advertising it reasonably heavily. It also has a 'localised' version here on the irish TV stations (with a dublin-accented voiceover at the end), which has been rare for Sony with PS3 games.

Who knows what it'll do for it. Can't hurt of course, the more exposure the better.

Here in Finland LBP sponsored a whole tv channel (SubTv) for a week or so which means it was practically impossible not to see any mention of the game if you watched the channel at all during that week. Not too sure how much it boosted the actual sales though.

I think some Xbox 360 games are going to crawl back into the charts in the coming weeks

I've noticed that MS has declared a game bomba and others have dropped in price as well.

From what I've gathered so far:

Bomba
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise 64,99 euro 29,99 euro

Xbox 360 Classics (Crackdown, Kameo, Dead Rising PDZ etc.) 29,99 euro 19,99 euro

Too Human 69,99 euro 39,99 euro
Mass Effect 69,99 euro 39,99 euro
Lost Oddesey 69,99 euro 39,99 euro
PGR4 69,99 euro 39,99 euro
HALO 3 69,99 euro 39,99 euro

Sony runs a promotion here in the Netherlands as well
PS3 pack with LBP or Motorstorm 2 + one free PS3 game of choice(including new releases like Resistance 2 and LBP) That's just 399 euro for a PS3 + 2 games. Both MS and Sony should post good numbers, Nintendo already has discounts running for Smash Bros + Wii at certain toy stores.

I expected the 360 being the hottest seller in The Netherlands this year. There are some rediculously good deals on the Arcade version, they go for almost a 100 euros less than a Wii and you get a couple of games with it. Still last week on the news the president of bol.com said that the Wii is still far and away the most popular Sinterklaas present to buy, I'm starting to wonder what it takes to outsell the Wii now.

My Mother had asked for Wii Music, but after seeing the advert with the whole family mashing along has decided that she wants other mini game stuff!

Still will get to 300k in the UK though. Animal Crossing wil beat it there though.

Must be fairly strong sales 360 hardware being sold for Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones to be ranking in the charts at this point, I assume thats the pack in bundle over in Europe as it is here in Australia.

Lips will do fairly solid in Europe and Microsoft will likely market it fairly heavily, Singstar and Buzz games don't seem to go over all that well in NTSC territories but they always chart well and continually sell in PAL countries.

Wow i don't know what to say other then that was pretty pathetic
I think you secretly acknowledge that it was just a joke.

the simple fact is we are well into the christmas shopping season when gifts being brought for kids are at there all time highest so wii sales should go up the nearer you get to christmas. The fact is despite christmas sales affecting the usual trends, during half term week wii sales on the weighted chart were up from the previous non school holiday week and then down again the following week after the holidays ended yet again following the trend i've pointed out all year long which some people have a ridiculous problem with, and right now on the chart the wii is no where near where it was during the school summer holidays, but hey thanks for sharing. :lol

Wii and DS did really well in the charts week 29 to week 35 (the 6 to 7 weeks of school holidays) in the UK, and on the charts in other big European countries too. As a chart indicates how well software does relative to each other, it is by no means a good indicator of how well software is doing in absolute terms. Your hypothesis is that Wii software sales were higher in the summer for Wii in UK than it was during the times before and after, because of the trends in the charts.

With the same logic, the same can be said for much of the rest of Europe too, where Wii software performed just as well, if not better, in the charts (and less well now).

But were Wii software sales really higher in the summer holidays in Europe than they were before?

Using the UK weighted chart graph as a general indicator for Wii performance on the software charts In Europe...

29gc1oz.png

One could assume that the period of July-September (27-39, containing the summer holidays) would have significantly higher software sales than the April-June period (14-26).

Evidence to contrary is that Wii software shipments for Europe are.

Apr-Jun: 17,160,000
Jul-Sep: 15,670,000

It is possible, although unlikely, that Wii software sales in Europe were higher in FYQ2 than FYQ1, due to inflated shipments in Q1. There was a trend of short stock with Wii Fit and Mario Kart. If shipments were not absurdly higher than demand in Q1 compared to Q2, then it's clear that software sales in Europe, rather than being higher, were lower in July-September.

In conclusion for the UK Wii software sales to have been higher for the quarter containing the summer holidays, its shipment/sales trends must have been vastly different than the rest of Europe's, meaning that the rest of Europe's software sales/shipments weren't just slightly lower in the summer holiday quarter, but massively lower, as UK takes up such a significant chunk the European software market. Given that Wii was dominating the charts in this period in other European countries, this is unlikely.

If there really were substantially higher Wii software sales in the UK during the summer months than there were during the periods before and after, I wouldn't take much issue with the hypothesis that this was because parents are buying games for kids during that period. But the evidence points towards a fairly flat, or slight dip, in absolute performance for Wii software sales.

IMO, this illustrates the danger of using numberless charts, which only show relative performance of software sales, and even assumes that the total software sales for all platforms is exactly the same each week. It's possible, and has likely happened numerous times, that performance on the weighted software chart can decrease, but also that performance in the real world hard software numbers can increase. Due to the legs of popular Wii software, Wii's performance on the charts will be strongest in periods where there's few big new software releases, and weakest where there's loads, ie, immediately after the summer holidays.

Also, hardware sales...

mwp5jt.gif

If they also went up during the summer holidays in UK, then they went down during the same period in the rest of Europe to balance it out.

I can't believe the Nintendogs ads are on again and they're NEW ones as well.

Anybody knows what defines this "Nintendo Bestsellers" line, do we know how many copies sold it needs?

Also, they're advertising the shit out of Rayman Raving Rabbids TV party "It's compatible with the Wii balance board!" but the spot is awesome and funny so it's good :)

edit: it's on now, Nintendogs ad again! :lol
edit 2: "Nintendo Official Magazine, with the Animal Crossing review!" Holy crap, I can't believe it, this wan't even conceivable a couple of years ago.

Is it just me or is it already impossible to buy a Nintendo DS from anywhere. Only ones I can find are those shitty Green and Pink Nintendo bundles.

Most stores have a £25 Extra Controller with kng Fu Panda and Lego Indy when bought with a console. It's basically their WiiPlay - but does point to decent HW sales. It scans as £110 without buing a console

This week's discounts are Fallout 3 all formats and Sonic Unleashed all formats for £20 in GameStation and a few smaller games like Zubo DS.

Is there a typo on the 4th week charting position (the 11th place)? http://www.vg.no/spill/topp20konsoll.hbs only shows LBP for 3 weeks. Futurama (or atleast it was, maybe Motor Storm 2 has taken over now), Family guy and maybe the Simpsons are sponsored by LBP, maybe that has something to do with the relatively high charting position? :)

Maybe when it comes to standalone consoles, but Nintendo titles seems to take up most the handheld chart :)

Are there lots of ads for LBP on TV in Norway by the way? I dont really watch THAT much TV though, but i can "only" recall to have seen that Futurama and Family Guy (and maybe the Simpsons as well) have been sponsored by LBP. I cant recall to have seen a LBP commercial in any other commercial breaks in some other TV shows, but then again, i really dont watch that much TV, so that is why i ask :)

Norway is pretty much the definition of a Sonyland

The other day I went to "Elkjop", one of the biggest retailers in the country to ask if they had something to sell me to copy my profile over to my new 360, but the guy there said:

"I don't know, I don't play 360 i only play my PS3". I almost punched him right in the kisser for the completely useless digression. And the memory cards were hanging there about a couple of arms' length away from him...

Anyway, it's Sonyland alright, but the 360 headstart made it to be almost neck and neck. So for now f.ex. both systems have similar sized game-racks in most shops.

Resistance 2 only 2/3 of R1 sales in first week?? I guess Resistance 1 wasn't that popular with gamers who bought it?

I blame it on poor timing of release. It was out just 2 weeks after LBP, and most people (including me) can't afford to buy games at that rate. I would get it after Xmas, but Killzone 2 is out in February so I'm just going to wait for that. I loved R1. IMO it's one of the best FPS games of the generation but the game seems rushed and there are better games coming out around it that I would prefer to have.

"just two weeks" is plenty of time and it's not like LBP did super amazing numbers or is in the same genre as R2.

PES is the biggest videogaming event of the year (and every damn year yet) in Italy, as you can see in the pic above.

Tonight, for the biggest Serie A match of the week-end, Lazio vs Inter will see the former sporting these neat t-shirts (also, ss Lazio 0 - Internazionale FC 2 at the beginning of second half EDIT: 0-3 :lol hell yeah, we're a damn Panzer!)

Sad to see Gears 2 out of the chart already. Sonyland indeed.
When i checked vg.no earlier before i wrote my previous post here, it still showed week 49 for some reason and not week 50 as i see it does now, or else i wouldnt have asked about LBP position in the chart of course :) Maybe my browser had week 49 cached, that it atleast the only reason i can think of why it said week 49 earlier in my browser. Thanks to the both of for pointing out that week 50 in the norwegian chart is up :)

A big drop for Gears of War 2 in the norwegian charts, last week it was like in 6th place or so. Gears of War 2 is also alittle cheaper than most other Xbox 360 games (and PS3 games for that matter), 399 norwegian kroner compared to other games that usually costs like 499 and/or 599 norwegian kroner.

Chart positions doesnt necessarily tell much about how much a game is selling though, especially in smaller countries. The example of the swizz numbers that was posted not that long ago showed that. It showed several of Wii titles in the top 30 for a period, and not 1 PSP game (or maybe 1?), but still the Wii and PSP software sale were not that big in a difference.

I like these sales charts even if we just get the position of the games and not any numbers, so i am not saying anything bad about these charts just to underline that. I just wanted to point out that chart positions doesnt necessarily tells how much a game is actually selling, but being in i.e the top 10 in a chart for a long period of time might be a good indicator that the game(s) is selling relatively good though, i just wanted to say that :)

Did he say it in an "arrogant" way? If a customer would have asked me that question about how to transfer a Xbox 360 profile over to another Xbox 360 console, then i wouldnt have known the answer for sure either (maybe i could have guessed, but i would not know the answer 100% clearly). I probably would not have mentioned the PS3 part though hehe :P
