PAL Charts - Week 49, 2007

read the fucking post. its not about advertising. 45 pounds is very expensive for a video game. most third party games cost £35 to £39. also if you take a look at most online retailers a cheaper uncharted is selling really well.
sony needs to take a serious look at their prices, i dont know if its the retailers forcing them to make those high prices or they're trying to be greedy, but its really not working.

Nice, I'm now getting sworn at, marvelous, look, both GAME and Gamestation list Uncharted at £34.99, now it may be an online only thing, but I thought they both ended the disparity between the online/store prices a few months ago, which makes your point moot, that said, most 1st Party Sony titles have been cheaper than 3rd parties (Assassins Creed is £40, as are most 3rd party titles), so I think SCEE may not be the greedy ones here.

Not surprising really, the ads they have of it are quite ridiculously cg heavy with like 3 seconds of gameplay.

what?? dont you mean the ads about 50/50 split between gameplay footage and a bunch of people playing with the commentry from stuart hall

Out of curiosity, has there ever been a title that charted better in its second week than its first in the UK? (Not several weeks after, where bundles could come into play, but the second week, after this infamous 2 days.)

This week's #1, for instance.

Who buys games on release date anyway. Uncharted and Singstar had a day...and we all know Sony starts advertising AFTER the game has released.

It bombed. First step is to admit it, then accepting it. Getting outsold by a mediocre big Wii third-party title is usually not a good sign.

quite often cant think of a specific example, however its usually nintendo games this happens to

Pretty much all DS games do this, and recently Mario & Sonic has done it to dramatic effect (Even continuing to rise in its third week). I can't really see the same situation for Uncharted as hardcore titles like it, tend to have a big debut then fall quite fast.

Ratchet and Clank entered at 15, then went to 37. (edit, i can't read)
Heavenly Sword entered at 5, the next week dropped to 8.

Yeah, well, not really. At least, not always.
And yes, I'm french :p

R&C bombed for instance, I'm extremely disappointed.

Ah, there we go! Perfect timing!

Thanks.

Mario and Sonic are being bundled. Chart Track says that their gold metal is 'wind assisted' because of that.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ wins a dramatic sprint to the line this week, gaining 6 places to reach No1 and beating the Christmas No1 favourite EA’s ‘Need for Speed: ProStreet’ in a photo finish with only 330 sales separating the two.

The Sega published Wii-exclusive title claims a personal best weekly sales figure, up 39% on last week, making it far and away the best performing Wii game over any 7-day period. Sega’s All Formats gold medal win can be seen as ‘wind assisted’ due to it being a major part of several Wii retailer bundles

Every ad I have seen of it is with them lining up at the start line (cg), running (cg) warrio shooting arrows (cg), bowser swinging shot puts (cg) and peach doing long jump (brief gameplay). I could be wrong but thats the only one iv'e seen and it's not really representative of the actual product I don't think.

Away from that I forgot to mention Ms has been getting ads for their games in clumps for the 360. As in currys have ads with Halo3, Assassins creed and a few others, and interestingly Mass effect isn't mentioned. Comet has one with the 360 and forza2 viva pinata (it's brief though). Some other places have tv ads for the 360 too with Mass effect missing. I don't think iv'e even seen a ME ad here tbh. I have seen a few Uncharted ads though, it's a shame its debut is so low. Unless by some miracle everything in the top 40 is selling gangbusters I feel sorry for it.

2? The data would be collected on the 8th, meaning the whole of the 8th would not be included :)

It really hardly matters though because most game sales on debut are colleted after the 1st day sales. Plus a debut in the 30's doesn't exactly spell rising to heaven next week. It's possible it would rise, but I doubt it.

It's just easier accepting it now
.

Only 2 days sales for Uncharted? I will wait for next week before calling bomba to anything.
Ahh! Every time. I swear. This is the case for basically all newly released games in the UK!!

Stock keeping done at the weekend, then reported to Chart Track on Monday morning.
That would be my guess anyway.

With some of the comments in this thread, I can't wait to see where Uncharted is in the UK chart next week. I think it'll break in to the top 10, right guys?

When people say that sales only included 2 days they are wrong, it includes 2 days in the shops and months of pre orders, sales never go up in the 2nd week but yet the 2 day excuse is wheeled out everytime.

Uncharted bombed, because its not a recognised IP, it looks like a **** raider clone and because of the the crappy ads (Cynical Brits dont take very well to brash American marketing speak)

#1 for sure. The UK will prove the haters wrong!

After seeing last week's Japanese sales and this week's UK sales, it's a pretty safe bet that there is no country on earth where Uncharted will outsell Assassin's Creed.

Just goes to show you that gamers at large don't care about exclusivity when choosing games, they go with what works for them.

There is no way its going to make top 20 next week, but its still a crying shame when it barely beats a sequel to an ignored game that is a mini game collection.

Why do you base 1-2 days of sales on bombed or not? Ranking doesnt really mean anything, its the number of copies sold that really matters.

I'm afraid the closer we get to Christmas the Crappier the top games will become as ill informed parents buy the strandard EA franchies.

Oh Mass Effect, you deserved better. At least it had a relatively strong start, hopefully it'll have good legs as well.

And wow on Uncharted, I really expected that one to do better.

Wrong(unless you are talking online prices). Retailers may cut the SRP but most 3rd party PS3 games are priced a £5 more than the 360 version(£40-45 pounds)

Altho maybe not 2nd week, i see several of games in this weeks chart that have risen in ranking. We dont get sale numbers, but since they risen in rank i do assume that they sold better than the previous week.

People always comes with the "only out for a couple of days" excuse. Then when next week's numbers comes out and showing no spikes, it's always "but, but, but, but.....*cries*"

It's like people never learns.

Buy uncharted people! One place above the shitty VP party animals! FILTH.

Sodding games industry has no soul.

It's not Party Animals, it's the original Viva Piñata (which isn't shitty or filth). It's being bundled with 360s here.

Games rise in sales because of bundles with consoles (Viva Pinata), a hardware price cut or price cuts to the software itself today I bought Lego star wars Complete Saga for £19.99! Expect a major rise in next weeks chart for this game!

Well.. in many cases ye, but its still too early to tell if there will be a sale spike or not. Every game is different from eachother altho many follows the same trend when it comes to sales. Many games also rise in rank, just look at Rayman this week. I do assume there was a sale spike there :)

Ye, that might be one possibility, but i see that Cod4 for both 360 and PS3 have risen in rank. Did this game have any pricedrop or bundle?

I haven't seen any Ratchet commercial though. It would have sold much better with more ads.

Yes £29.99 in game on both 360 and PS3 last week

Although to be fair all games are likley to rise in the run up to Christmas so its not unlikley that some will rise more than others but Uncharted will not sell more in next weeks reporting period.

Well not ps3 gamers anyway. In fact make that about good games and call it quits. Honestly I think I might be right with LBP afterall.

Oh right, not quite so bad, since there is that pack with a controller, VP and Forza for £35.

But still, buy Uncharted people!

I expected Uncharted and Singstar to not do well, but I didn't expect both to bomb that hard.

Uncharted as a new IP simply has not enough marines (either of the space or anti-terrorist sort) and too colourful gfx it seems - not gritty enough. As a big fan of colourful games this really makes me sad.

PS3 is still to expensive for a casual experience like Singstar. Singstore not a selling point to the majority of people, I don't have any numbers but I don't think a whole lot more than 60% has their PS3 online, lest buys stuff online. This was to be expected (although there were a whole lot of posters disagreeing) but not even charting in the all-format chart is certainly not meeting expectations.

Sad to see Mass Effect falling off the charts, Galaxy selling poorly, Uncharted starting so badly and Pro Street managing top 10. =(
A friend of mine wanted to buy SMG after seeing it at my place. He wanted to order it online but Play, Blah and even Amazon (both .de and .co.uk) don't have it in stock. I'm surprised it even made the Top 10.

Should've read what chart-track had to say:
The effect of Wii hardware bundling can be seen further down the chart as Ubisoft’s ‘Rayman’s Raving Rabbids 2’ enters the Top 40 for the first time at No24, while EA’s ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ re-enters at No32.

Its easily available in shops(building where you can exchange money for goods and take them home!!)

I haven't seen these Uncharted/SingStar commercials everyone says are on tv.

Disappointed withuncharted's sales though, it does deserve better and I am one of those sales. :D

But one of my friends texted me today saying he wasn't buying it at £45 he's actually lending my copy because I've completed it.

I have no idea why the store price and online price are so out of whack.

The reason why FIFA went up the charts is because there's deals on gamestation and play for it.

and I know its been mentioned but every new game only has one day of sales before getting on the charts. I know people used that excuse for Galaxy when Assassin's Creed got to number one when they both released on the same day.

But it doesn't matter now, with Mario and Sonic number one, all hope is lost.

Really? The singstar one is new, but uncharted has been quite frequent, and also at cineword cinemas for the past few weeks. There is also the strange circus freak PS3 ad
