The run-up to Christmas means there are deals aplenty to be had at retail, none more so than Bethesda’s ‘Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’ which climbs from No5 to claim No1 for the first time, thanks to an average price reduction of around £13 compared to last week (+145%).

Skyrim debuted 5 weeks ago at No2 in the same week as ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’, which explains why it never made No1 at launch. Activision Blizzard’s aforementioned ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ (-7%) drops to No2 after 4 straight weeks at the top and Ubisoft rise one place to No3 with ‘Just Dance 3’ (+67%) – the PS3 version is new this week, but the Wii version continues to account for a massive 89% of all sales on this title. EA drop 2 places to No4 with ‘FIFA 12’ (+24%) as do Ubisoft with ‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’, now No5 (-5%). EA’s ‘Battlefield 3’ climbs 3 places to No6 (+30%) and Nintendo claim a third straight week at No7 with ‘Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call’ (+5%).

THQ drop 2 places to No8 with ‘Saints Row: The Third’ (-2%) and Sony’s ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’ climbs back in to the Top 10 at No9 after an absence of 3 weeks (+81%), thanks to some price promotional activity. Nintendo’s ‘Mario Kart 7’ completes the Top 10 (-1%), holding off the charge of Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games’ which remains at No11 (+16%).

It dropped like a rock in the European charts, it started poorly in Japan and dropped very hard in its second week, and only the sales in the US can be considered good. That's entirely Nintendo's fault, but it's nevertheless sad to see how the developers aren't able to make use of its potential -- and I'm very sure that the Zelda series actually still has growth potential, it's just that the series is stuck in traditions.

Even if It's dropped in position from last week we can hope that it might not have dropped in sales with it being xmas and everything rising, also it might start selling a bit better as nintendo seemed to have remembered to advertise it again after forgetting for a few weeks

MS fans. They burn bright and fast. Quick gloating followed by a quick exit, sometimes via a ban. Generally just there to troll Sony fans.

Sony fans. Always pretending like price cuts and bundles don't exist for their exclusives. Rely on savior lists. Easily trolled and sent into teary rants. Generally obnoxious.

What the fuck, Italy? Zelda's not even in that sad list of Wii top-sellers? It's below all of that super old games? It's like it hasn't been released there at all.

Anectodal: After the first week I couldn't find a Zelda SS in my city, ended up getting it on Amazon.it
Sad thing it that there's plenty of advertising on TV (not like JD3 which comes up every couple of minutes but still MORE than Mario Kart 7). On the Wii section there's usually shelf after shelf filled with Just Dance games, Zumba, Mario Kart, Wii Fit and shovelware.

Also unbelievable is that Dance Central 2 and Disney Adventures are missing from the 360 chart, those two together with Just Dance 3 Wi, Mario Kart Wii (!), the Move dance game and Assassin's Creed Revelation PS3 are bombarding every commercial break out there.

Oh wow acti-blizz has a real strangle hold on the market at the moment. Also the HD consoles (360 in particular) are just dominating the market.

They really have threw away their momentum and it's going to make launching the wii U all the more difficult.

MS on the other hand seem to be in a great position and if they can make a little more headway into Europe next gen things will get interesting (that's where i think MS should be targeting not Japan).

Now I wonder if only HD will be enough for Zelda next time...

I may sound like a graphics whore here but Zelda has basically been stuck on the same HW for the last 3 big consoles releases (Yeah the wii is more powerful than the GC but not by a great deal). I think it's a series that can really benefit from improved graphics and i think the extra console power will help with other things as well (having a larger more populated world for a start).

I'm not going to read too much into the sales of SS. I think a lot of its sales performance is due to the state the wii is in and i still think it will sell 3 million or so WW.

I think a HD release will turn the series around but it's hard to be sure.

Most of the sales age dudes are Ninny fans, so the better that company does, the bigger the threads. I could be wrong tho.
