DAILY BEAST WARNING! SPOILERS IN URL WARNING!

Brought to you by that Pocket I have yet to disable, because sometimes it makes me laugh. I'll redact any spoilerific parts of the article, because I care.

Jasmine Estrada thought nothing could make her second-guess naming her child after one of the main characters in the mega-hit HBO show Game of Thrones. Then she saw Sunday’s episode.

“Oh my god,” Estrada said. "They did bad thing!"

Estrada’s 6-year-old progeny is called "Person Who did Bad Thing"—an idea from Estrada’s mother, who mispronounced the name, leading to the misspelling. “I think it’s an amazing name,” she said.

She told The Daily Beast that other fans had warned her before she watched the latest Game of Thrones episode on Monday, but she doubted it would change her mind.

An hour later, everything had changed.

“I’m kind of in shock,” Estrada said when The Daily Beast called back. “It was kind of disappointing when that person did bad thing. That was not cool.”

The Miami native said she still stood by the “cool and powerful” name, but added: “I definitely don’t like the outcome of what the name represents. So it’s kind of bittersweet right now.”
Because the best name to give your child is one that you can't even pronounce or spell.

I wonder if this has happened with other people before unfamiliar with the literature or history of a name? Just imagine.

Estrada’s 6-year-old son is called "Hitlar"—an idea from Estrada’s mother, who mispronounced the name, leading to the misspelling. “I think it’s an amazing name,” she said. "He was a painter, and loved animals. I just thought, 'What could possibly go wrong?'"

She told The Daily Beast that friends who had not slept through history class, unlike her, had warned her when she started reading a biography on the infamous tyrant everyone else knew about, but she doubted it would change her mind.

A hundred pages later, everything changed.

“I’m kind of in shock,” Estrada said when The Daily Beast called back. “It was kind of disappointing. That was not cool.”

The Miami native said she still stood by the “cool and powerful” name, but added: “I definitely don’t like the outcome of what the name represents. So it’s kind of bittersweet right now.”

Is it really that bad... I mean it's kinda weird if you're in that position I guess, but who's gonna care in like... three years?

My eldest is named after a ancient Mesopotamian demon, predating written human history and known for eating babies. My youngest is named after a soothing chemical put on wet wipes for your bum.

I mean, there were still Damiens born in a post-Omen world, I think this isn't that big of a deal. I'm also rolling at my eyes at people thinking it's funny how people with tattoos and shit with her on it now feel foolish. Why? Oh sorry, we must be in a plane of existence where no one has a Darth Vader tattoo or a Freddy Krueger tattoo, my mistake.

Seriously, I've got a beautifully drawn art print of Daenerys with her three dragons all framed nicely, and nothing has affected my enjoyment of its visual awesomeness.

(plus, honestly maybe my memory is exaggerating things, but I do wonder exactly how many truly innocent people were in Kings' Landing, the place always seemed like it was filled with some fucked up people. Like a woman was raped by like fifty guys and a bunch of other people brutally murdered by a mob in book 2 in the place. I'm not saying Daenerys was morally justified but admittedly she might have done the continent some good. Also, according to TvTropes, she actually made the right call based on military tactics in the middle ages, a city under seige that refuses surrender until they've actually been breached would mean it was deemed that the city's defenders were responsible for their citizens' lives and thus the guilty party for the city's complete slaughter was considered to be the city's defenders for not prioritizing their people's safety. So apparently based on that time period's military law Cersei would be considered responsible for every single citizen's death)

I'm just reading what was apparently done in the Middle Ages. I even said she's not morally justified, but from their perspective in that time period the blame of the deaths would be placed on Cersei. Which is fitting, Tyrion even explained why she'd be a fucking idiot to not surrender. But no, she had to be a piece of shit to the end. Which is why I roll my eyes at anyone who felt sorry for her as she died.

Couldn't even spell it right and probably thought that was her name.

I started reading the history of Germany and there was this young go getter who really turned that country around after WW1! I didn't finish the book yet, my son Adolf was born before i had the chance to finish.

Eh, I still think it's a cool name. Besides, GRRM still has his final books to come out and the name meaning could drastically change for all we know.

I don’t even get casual peoples obsession with tv shows, let alone the extreme nut jobs.

they are actors pretending to be characters and it’s not real. There are plenty of things that are real that could do with the same attention from the asleep masses.

My kid is named April, after April O’neil from Turtle fame.

So far all she will have to contend with is another girl called April who went missing a few years back, and April O’neil the porn star.

We wanted a strong name for a strong girl and we both loved that. It’s subtle enough that it’s a normal name, but works for us because we know why.

Not that it matters, because ever since birth we have probably called her April a handful of times... She’s known as Rilly, or Rills, or Rilsters, or whatever other cute ass name we come up with.

You should call your fist kid Turn Based RPG and it'd be pretty accurate, looking at that shitshow of a thread in the gaming side. :p

It is a little know *fact* that this same issue kiiled the major plot twist in Lucas' 2nd and 3rd Prequel Star Wars movies.

Jar Jar Binks was a *very* obvious copy of the *Mule* from Asimov's Foundation Trilogy. The Mule is introduced as a *clown* with the same clumsy bizarre clown look as Jar Jar Binks, to the same team of 'heroes' at the same point in the narrative. The Mule/Jar Jar, because of appearance, speech pattern and clumsiness, is taken as harmless.

The original 'Star Wars' took all of its themes from existing works as well- as film scholoras know. So borrowing The Mule was similar form for George Lucas.

But then the problem...
The Phantom Menace was childish, and aimed at young children. A little kid in the pod race. Funny frog people and robots speaking in high pitched cartoon form. Lots of bright colours. And Jar Jar Binks was sold as the child's friend- and marked as such in the usual merchandise.

When Lucas explained that Jar Jar was actually a Sith mastermind- and the reveal would be the prequel's "Luke, I am your Father" moment, the people around Lucas said "but George, we marketed TPM at little kids, and sold Jar Jar as the safe happy little guy from that movie. The parents will go *beserk* if you turn around and make Jar Jar the very devil himself. You cannot be this irresponsible when TPM was derided by all adult fans for pitching to the very young- a choice you made"

So the plan to have the big Mule like reveal for Jar Jar was dropped, and the prequel movies lost their only plot twist. The fight between Jar Jar and Yoda is swapped for a fight between Yoda and dracula.

Now decades later and WB (yes HBO is WB in disguise) was so clueless, it made exactly the same mistake. Dany- the fan favourite among fanboys and girls, and a role model for mid-to-low betas and below, suddenly becomes evil because to the zero-talent hacks who write this show, *this* is 'fanservice'.

Everything sh-t in Season 8 (ie., the whole of the events in season 8) has been 'fanservice' in the opinion of David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. So utterly thick and clueless are this duo, they truly thought each of these events that have horrified fans would be adored by the same fans.

You think the studio heads did not see how sh-t the scripts were? Of course they did. But David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reassured the heads that this is what the *fans* wanted. So the studio said "fine- you clearly know your fans- and if your fans want this sh-t, why should we deny them".

When Lucas was told *why* he couldn't have his 'Mule' plot device with Jar Jar, he got it. He changed the next two moves to accomodate. You see George is a proper, educated writer. Perhaps not a great writer, but he understands the trade and craft rules.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are pure Human waste. No talent. No ability. No decency to crack open a book on the rules of writing narrative. And no clue about how their audience actually thinks- their *worst* crime. Today, only extreme alt-left trade outlets are defending GOT. Now defending two *white males* from rightful attacks by women and 'black' people (and men and 'white' people). Which shows the true purpose of the alt-left media outlets.

I don't care where (just far)
I feel like parents could use it is a teachable moment, "like you were named after a character who did much great but also made a terrible choice for these reasons and here is the lesson we can learn from that."

Don't get me wrong, naming your kids after GoT is dumb, I am just saying, if you already made that leap, there may be a "cup half full" way to move forward.

i havent seen the latest episode, but i did watch the first two seasons, which started with the character being sold off into marriage, living a life of rape and murder, and included her floating above a mass of slaves as a modern white savior. she "liberates" these people, who become her massive army, continuing her violent conquest of the world. if you thought naming your child after her was a good idea in the first place i dunno what to say.

similarly, i find all of the people featured in GOT as horrible people, with very few exceptions, they are all murderers and cutthroats, who will turn on a dime. the idea that people are being betrayed by their love or the good they saw in these characters is kind of upsetting IMO. not saying you are bad if you like to watch bad people, as for me, that was the main draw of the show when i watched. the thrill of the show was seeing what these horrible people did next. if anyone is putting them on a pedestal, i suggest they step back, and take a look at the show, and what the characters have done previously.

the people shocked by whatever happened recently (i haven't watched the show since S5), have these people even seen the Red Wedding? do they not realize the entire show has been about villains you love to hate?

Well, technically they just called their daughter the name of any wife of a khal warlord. It’s like naming your kid Queen or something.
