PAX East 2012 Thread

Yeah, I'm not going to take anyone seriously when they complain about food. Bring a lunch or skip the meal of you are that worried.

- There is a food court inside the building serving a variety of meals.
- There are smaller vendors inside the building.
- There are about three resturants attached to the building itself.
- There are bars and resturants all within walking distance. Jerry Remy's, Legal, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Whiskey Priest, Drink, Lucky's, Cosi, and many more.
- There is a shuttle bus, COMPLEMENTARY. Will bring you to at least three various locations, all serving food.
- Cabs are very cheap. Plenty of them around.

People are complaining about those first three options because either they are packed and/or subpar. Especially the food court inside the BCEC.

Although I don't think enough people knew about the shuttles. I didn't make use of them this year because I was always in the expo hall until 2

We avoided driving out due to the parking fees, but walked/cabbed to Chinatown for soup dumplings, pastries, and bubble tea. Had some good stuff at the Westin lobby too.

Had a $9 hot dog on day one tho. =(

The food court food was pretty standard. I got the burritos which was better than anything say from a Qdoba.

As for the comments about te cab, Boston has great cab rates. Unlike NY and other large cities. I can get from there to Cambridge for twenty/thirty and split that with the other passengers. To just get to Chinatown or something, it's only a few bucks per person.

How did you guys know if/when Suda was showing up? Were there signs, or was it posted online, or what? I remember hearing weeks ago that he'd be at PAX East, but I didn't see anything advertising when he'd be at the booth. I would've liked to meet him.

I didn't hear about Suda officially being at PAX but on Friday morning I was walking around the Expo Hall trying to figure out what was worth standing in line for and I passed the WB area and saw the Lollipop Chainsaw bus and I was like "Oh, that's cool." and as I was passing by Suda was showing someone else the chainsaw prop they had for Jessica to use. I did a double take and then pointed at him and walked over and he assumed I wanted to check out the chainsaw but I started to talk to him in English and his translator was translating since he didn't speak English that well. I told him I was a big fan of his, especially No More Heroes, he said thanks for the support and asked me to pre-order Lollipop Chainsaw, lol.

I just took the T to South Station, and I got food from there. Worked out pretty well. Only took 30-45 minutes away from my time.

Went to Quincy Market on Thursday, OMG, the clam chowder was amazing! Plus, the Gaf meetup ended up at Fauniel Hall.

When I joined this site a few years back, I never imagined I would meet Gaffers face-to-face. Now, several of them are good friends.

Same here. Being so busy prepping for the show, I almost forgot I was actually going to be meeting other gaffers. But that definitely made the whole experience so much sweeter.

Noogy, were you pleased with the amount of people playing Dust and their reception? I told a lot of people to go check out your game when they could.

Pleased doesn't even begin to describe it! Honestly I sort of went just to make the sure game wasn't crashing, and say hello to some attendees. The overwhelming reception will definitely make the rest of production be a little easier.

Thanks for sending people to the game, it made all the difference. This whole week has been a blur, so I'm trying to let it all soak in.

I apologize for not making it to the GAF meetup but the group I was with had absolutely no interest.
Wait, what? You were trying to grab your group in? That's NEVER going to work. Ever.

I told three groups they're on their own for the evening. I know they have no interest/don't know/don't want to know about "meeting online people", so I know better not to try pushing that.

Late to the party, but I'm going to blast a bunch of photos of the venue. (Sorry, probably going to be bandwidth heavy)

I had a good time this year. I think my biggest issue is just how expensive boston is . Its more expensive than NYC even.

We stayed at the Renessance or whatever two blocks from the center. There were plenty of places to eat however they were expensive.

I think they also need to find some more space. The convention floor for the video game side should have been twice the size and they could have even used more space for the board game section.

If anyone has some extra packs of Kid Icarus cards they don't want, I'm trying to build a collection. Couldn't bring myself to stand on line over and over.

They weren't just giving away packs if you played Kid Icarus while waiting in that line. I got packs by going to the StreetPass panel Saturday morning and playing around with the Kid Icarus AR demo

They were giving them for anything Kid Icarus related (both single player, the AR cards, etc). The Multiplayer line was strictly for that t-shirt...

I went last year - had to skip this year - and I found the food court fare much better than I expected. Is it expensive? Absolutely. But you don't have to leave and convenience has a price.

People complain about the cost of food at every convention.

Unfortunately I had a 4-way conflict, and couldn't make it to the StreetPass panel.

Hey Creid!

im also trying to collect 'em ar cards! being in Brasil doesn't help but i had a HUGE pile built in PAX. We should get a KI AR card trading thread! i'd be all over it. (i have around 50 spare cards to trade!)

This may have been said in this thread already, but did it seem like to anyone else that there were way more booth babes this year? It seemed like every section on that floor there was a group of very attractive women with skin tight clothing standing around looking like that was the last place in the world they wanted to be.

I'm all for pretty ladies, but at a place like PAX East it's a little out of place and kind of insulting. I know Mike and Jerry wanted to try to keep that at a minimum but this year just seemed worse than usual. I remember last year they made the Duke Nukem booth babes cover up their chest a little. Doesn't seem like any of that was going on this year.

(ironically, the people at the Wither 2 booth were forced to run around and skip a scene during every demo because of a sex scene, someone complained)

I'm sure I'd complain less if booth babes started showing up at the party events I go to at PAX East...

they were giving away Kid Icarus cards if you did the survey at the Nintendo booth, i did it and got more cards, too many card packs.

i am lazy to post a pic so i'll do it in a bit.

I see myself behind Salvador's right leg! :p

:( didn't play, next time hold a sign saying "Adam from neo gaf" :p

Maybe I'm just more perverted and notice these things. Probably about right.
I didn't think any were particularly out of line either. In the case of Steel Battalion, yes, that's borderline close to "booth babes" in that sense, but even then, still nowhere as close to the whole Duke Nukem incident.

Well yes there was certainly nothing nearly like that this year.

Was the cosplayer of Suda's Lollipop Chainsaw not kicked out because she showed too much body?
Actually didn't see her and I was over near the Wither 2 booth a couple times which is right next to it, so maybe she did?

Oh wait I think I saw her on Saturday walking in from the Westin. Boobs were definitely popping out from the top of that cheerleader outfit.

I actually saw the entire side of some girl's boob as well. I think she was some anime or fighting character. The sides of the costume were completely open and she had nothing on underneath. That's par for course with cosplay though, none of that surprised me this year.

And that's the weird double standard that I think no one really wants to deal with: somehow, companies have to avoid it, yet if you're cosplaying, then it's OK?

I find it all pretty weird myself but I don't know the first thing about cosplay so I try not to get into it.
