PC Drivers for Xbox One controller are out.

I have a sinking feeling it might be almost driver level or something, but I don't actually know. Someone call feep.
It's actually quite easy. Sequence, for instance, will automatically toggle between UI modes with:

1) No controller plugged in
2) Xbox 360 controller plugged in
3) Guitar 360 controller plugged in

To be fair, the outer shell of these drivers *might* be designed to simply look like normal XInput, so that it retains perfect compatibility with games that support the 360 controller. I'd have to check.

But whatever There Came an Echo doesn't even USE a controller (optimally).

Getting issues with opening Borderlands 2 now, and I'm getting an error after exiting games. Minor issues, and hopefully it fixes itself when I restart my computer later, just at lunch so can't see if there are any other issues. Dark Souls 2 seems to work completely fine with the controller. I was actually surprised to see that the drivers were correctly switched as I had messed around with non-official drivers/ solutions from someone else.

Me too. I get some runtime error whenever I exit Dark Souls 2. Other games like Skyrim, RE4, and GTA4 exit without a problem.

It would be great if they make the 360 wireless adapter compatible with X1 pads. But I have got the feeling that they will go for another dongle instead. Anyway, despite the early problems that I'm reading about in this thread, it's great news! I really like the X1 pad, despite I don't have the console and have tried it briefly on a Gamestop.

The 360 and X1 controllers use a different wireless solution so the 360 dongle won't work with the new controller, wrong type of hardware.

Indeed, I'd buy an X1 controller in a heartbeat if the old dongle was compatible.

Ah well.. guess a new dongle is in order. I hope it won't take another year for that to come out..

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the driver?

Yes. Twice. Now I can get the gameplay to function in games at least, but the guide button is flashing all four lights constantly instead of reading as controller one. Distracting as hell.

Hopefully I can resolve this without tape....

Shit I dunno, maybe batteries are running low?

Nah, sinks up to my 360 just fine still. I mean its functional like I said but that damned blinking light will drive me insane.

Twas working fine right before I installed these drivers.

Bleh.

I really liked the Xbox One controller when I tried it (more than the Dual Shock 4), just don't know if I like it that much over the 360 controller.

Um, this things runs on batteries, right? If you take off the batteries does it run on USB power alone? If not, does the play&charge kit charge the controller off USB power while the controller remains in use?

Wasn't Sony saying that the DS4 would be plug and play with PC? It's about time they make good on that promise. Otherwise I'll have to buy a Xbox One gamepad, which I'd really like to avoid cause it doesn't feel right in my hand.

It's USB powered when connected and you can leave the batteries in there. You can use a cheap micro USB to USB that you may already own.

That's good to hear, thanks! Having to start charging the controller separately would almost be a dealbreaker coming from a wired 360 controller.

For the people who were wondering about it, the controller definitely uses a proprietary protocol rather than Wi-Fi Direct, as confirmed by Major Nelson:
http://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/1l5rhj/wifi_direct_for_controller/

Unfortunately that means it's never going to work wirelessly until MS release a new receiver for it. Maybe a minor E3 announcement...?

as they did with the 360 controller. I'd rather use it wirelessly despite of the lag, than wired, but at this moment I'm ok with this

Installed the drivers last night and so far, so good. Played Revengeance, transistor, PCSX2 and Watch Dogs on it. This is actually my second time with the Xbox One controller (first time was playing Dead Rising 3 for a few minutes at a friends place), and i am really digging it. I like the feel of the D-Pad and the analogs are great. The bumpers will take a little bit to get used to for me, as im used to activating them at a different point than the outside, but i can adjust.

This has become my default controller for PC games now.

Bummer, i thought i could use it wireless on my PC. That's the main reason i want one, i hate the long cable of my razer onza.

I am in love with that dpad, felt absolutely amazing playing mortal kombat with it. Also the bumpers are not as bad as I thought when I first tried them last year, the click is less noisy than the 360 and easily accessible, need to try dark souls with them. Overall very happy to retire the 360pad

Haven't seen anything about wireless connectivity. Would that require a separate special dongle a la the 360 controller? I don't remember what the wireless standard of Xbone controllers is.

That's not what I remember from the PAX East demo.
:p

They said it would be DirectInput, and it is. Problem is, most recent games have moved over to Xinput and left Dinput controllers in the dust. This is why the driver wrapper is recommended for the DS4 on PC.

Quick question:
If I connect controller to pc, then connect streo headset adapter to controller and plug in my headphones, will it work? Can I control pc volume with this? Will sound still be playing through speakers or only through headphones?

having some issues here on my windows 7 machine (64 bit). works fine on my other windows 8.1.

so on my windows 7, i downloaded the correct file from major nelson. i plug the controller in and it says "searching for drivers" then after about 30 seconds it says drivers not found. the controller never turns on or rumbles or anything when i plug it in on the windows 7 pc. wtf am i doing wrong?

Did you run and install the actual file you downloaded?

yep. ran it right from major nelsons site and it installed with no problems. then i plug the controller in and nothing. i hear the notice that a USB item has been plugged in but the controller doesn't light up or anything else.

did that, did windows updates, etc.

there must be some setting or something that i fucked with at some point that is causing it. it's so easy on windows 8.1 :(
Weird, does the controller show up in the Device Manager as "Microsoft Xbox One Controller"? I think it showed up as some generic device initially.

just shows up as generic. i checked into the device and it actually shows the xbox one driver update but has:

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

i looked some stuff up online and it said to download some updates from Windows Update (which the computer already automatically did previously.... but somehow there were other things to update when i went to Windows Update) so i'm downloading that stuff now. we'll see!

Just checking in.
This is how it shows up for me (8.1). Installed the x64 drivers as administrator and then restarted. Everything seems to be working fine.

My 360 shows up under that list if I plug it in as well.

Really like the controller, bumpers included.

I didn't have to dl anything w/ windows 8.1 and the latest updates. Just plugged it in and the controller lit up and vibrated for a second. Shows up and works fine

Gonna give this a shot tonight, will post some impressions later.

I needed dat push to talk button! It was loud.

Also camera can be done with a mouse or voice.
Totally. That a voice controlled game could work at all on that show floor was a miracle. Can't wait to see how the custom commands work in the final game, floor was too noisy to see it in action. Or the demo gods hated me. I may or may not have accidentally killed the demo.
Obvs as a programmer I was just doing some pro bono QA, not making your life harder.
