There's no way this is for real. I think they're going to donate 100% of the money to charity and do the podcast anyway. I want to believe.
What are these expensive costs that are associated with podcasting?
Pledge $2,500 or more
All rewards at $250 level and below, and choose a topic. As long as the topic is not, like, "who would win" type shit, or "ninjas" or whatever, we will discuss "your" topic during an episode of "Downloadable Content."
LOL, choose a topic? I guess, to make things fair, it should then be about $3000 a pop to read listener emails, right?
Theyre site is popular enough. Stick a damn donate button on the page and use that to get your 10 dollars.
Do you feel bad that money isn't instead going to startups that really need it, or heaven forbid, a real charity? Clearly not. Lets get some free monay!!!

So if kickstarting podcasts isn't new, and charging for podcasts isn't new, what am I supposed to be ticked off at, exactly?
yes, it is. I've produced a podcast with garageband and a $40 logitech headset.
Give me a break.

Pledge $1,000 or more
All previous rewards at $250 level and below, and you and a pal play through some co-op levels for an hour with us over Xbox Live. Game TBD (probably Monaco).
LMAO kickstarting a podcast
Proper recording gear, space, time, proper linkage, and editors.
give me a fucking break.
Am I supposed to hate Idle Thumbs now? http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/idlethumbs/idle-thumbs-video-game-podcast
I think the main issues is also that they are proving it doesn't cost much with a 10$ goal. So there is some unique thought processes that had to go through their mind to have done that.
Irony at its finestSeems like a play on one of their comics...
Meanwhile this game (which is quite fun) has a total of ~$120.
Wouldn't a donation page on their site have served the exact same purpose?

These aren't that expensive, plus they are all things PA would already have.Proper recording gear, space, time, proper linkage, and editors.
"Just because you can take money for something doesn't mean you should".
True or false?
Believe me, PA can take a long walk off a short pier, but I really don't know why people on the internet care about how strangers spend their money.

Who are these people who donate to this stuff? Why do you do it?

I think that has more to do with the fact they are doing it anyway, just want to offer the chance to crowdfund PA Corp some more. Nothing wrong with that.
This is bad but the $10 goal makes it an outright con.
Fucking :lol
First Susan and now this.
edit: also lol at people who really REALLY believe that they need a fucking kickstarter for a podcast.........
because you don't need $136,000 to do a podcast.
This could be bigger than originally planned hint at stretch goals. This is a well charted plan to fund years' worth of podcasts full-time plus equipment.
You gotta be kidding me? If they did the research this forum did....Well, they were pretty supportive of Susan Wilson...

How is this a scam?
$10 goal is just fucking slimy. It's them flat out saying that they don't need the money. They are just asking for fucking donations at this point.
Both Krahulik and Holkins make a living from Penny Arcade, placing them in a small group of professional webcomic artists devoted to their creations full-time. Originally, like many webcomics, Penny Arcade was supported solely by donations.
They only asked for 10
