Persona 4 US Dec. 9, 2008

I like the Japanese voice acting better better because I am a pathetic mouth-breathing weeaboo. How much would this cost to import? (I've only ever imported cds.)

Probably at least $65. You'll have to have a way to play import games too.

But hearing the same songs over the course of 70 hours is aural punishment.
I'm about 28 hours in P3 and some of the songs are driving me insane.
Especially the dorm song.

No way! I love every minute of the P3 soundtrack, and could listen to it on repeat for days on end.

(Though, to be fair, I can understand why some people may have had problems with it.)

they need to shorten it a bit to keep the pacing going. Persona 3 is a bit too long

NO! 99% of the time I'd agree with you, but I loved the fact that P3 was stupid long - it was one of the few games I honestly didn't want to end.

Funny enough, I think the thing I'm most excited about is the change to female S. Links. It bugged me that every link ended up in romance mode, and while I indeed had fun playing most of the time pimping on all of those girls, I think it'll add a lot more to the game to be able to choose which girl specifically you want to have a serious "relationship" with.

I'd love to see the game pushed so far as to be a pseudo-dating sim, where not only do you have to build the relationship up initially, but then keep it.

We've heard 4 of likely 5 battle themes from the trailers, and Meguro's certainly taken an approach more similar to DDS/DS with rock/ heavy usage of guitars.

They sound good, at least. The battle theme is a remix of another song (the last one in the long trailer)

I hope the music at 14 minutes in the trailer is the town theme.

Maybe it is just my speakers, but the audio was horrible. I could only make out what they were saying half the time in the 5 minutes that I listened with my speaker volume at max. Also, it is around an hour long for anyone interested.

Yeah, I just got around to downloading it, and I can't understand much.

P3 is a genre unto itself. You control a High School student throughout the course of a year, with the story advancing completely based off the calendar. Each day is divided into distinct phases; generally speaking, the school day itself is automated cutscenes or skipped entirely, the after school phase allows you to explore and advance "Social Links", while the night phases see you exploring a giant, randomly generated dungeon.

The Social Links are series of cutscenes with dialog choices; as you "Rank up" in them, your ability to use persona (modifications to your main characters abilities) of the corresponding Arcana improves. Check for the main P3 thread if you need a better description, but basically it is a combination of social sim and dungeon-crawling RPG.

Dating sim plus dungeon crawler, sorta.

I hate the term Dating-Sim so much, as most of the time it refers to outright porn. Only 6 of the 22 Arcana are anything like dating, and even out of those six, few are 'dating' until very near the end.

I don't think the dating sim moniker really fits Persona. It's no more a dating sim than GTA IV

GTA IV has a dating sim as a mini-game. This is half the game. Just, you don't get fanservice scenes if you do it right. They should fix this in the future.

Not sure which alternate Earth you're living on (and how your internet is able to connect to ours), but here on Normal Earth, the U.S. P3 and P3 FES covers were nowhere close to being as good as the Japanese ones.
:lol

No, I'm pretty sure I personally liked P3's US version better (FES is debatable).

Great news of the day. Now I need to break open FES. Can't wait to replay P3 then move into the answer!

I must be in my own little world, as well. I liked P3's JP art more, but didn't think either of the FES JP covers looked good on a retail box.

You just don't get it.

Mitsuru is such a stuck-up bitchy twat, it's smokin' hot. She's gotta be clean, too.

I dunno, what always bugged me about Mitsuru is that it seemed like you were hooking up with Akihiko's old girl.

So, I picked up FES a while ago and it's still shrinkwrapped. It's go without saying that I'll be playing it, but -- is P4 like a different game entirely or something? Is P3 required playing to know what's going on in P4, or is it one of those games where there's similar elements (gameplay-wise), but the story and cast are totally different. Sort of like same universe, different world idea.

I must know!

Seriously? Akihiko has, like, 0 interest in anyone. The only time he even hit on a girl was because he thought of it as a competition.

I'm pretty sure that none of the girls there are Akihiko's "type."

Same basic gameplay structure, new cast and storyline. P4's going to reference back to P3 in places but by and large be a different, unconnected story.

Do we know if you can date males as well as females in this game? As a gay guy it sorta frustrated me not being able to hit on any of the guys i was Maxing out in P3. I just went with whichever girl i would date if i was straight lol.

What do you call that genre of anime that's like Yaoi, but instead of being full of fail, it's full of win?

Oh yeah, yuri. That's why we got Mitsuru's crazy stalker, and we left the French kid a little more ambiguous. But I understand, as I am not a polygamist, I hated having to play all these ho's.

I think you'd enjoy Bully. The main character has, shall we say, a wider range of romantic endeavors. Too bad that genre is played-thefuck-out.

Thanks! I opened it last night and played for about 2 hours. Really fun so far! So, P4 is going to have the school/relationship aspect too? It's probably the only thing I can see that might get a little old 80+ hours down the road.

Now I have to finish Persona 3. Nevertheless, I'm excited for this and I really dug the crowd's wild enthusiasm. What I didn't dig were the fucking stupid Q&A people who either wanted to complain about previous games' difficulty or brag about knowing Latin. I never got a chance to ask.
Sigh. I know it happens at conventions, but still...

Bully seemed like a ok game but i would prefer it be tied to some rpg elements as well. I suppose i will have to wait and see if that option is there for P4.

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
these games are aimed at the Otaku crowd in japan. So the emphasis is on dating hot chicks.

Did you try playing the import version of P3? It was one of the worst voice jobs I've ever heard.
