Persona 5’s PS4 share features are permanently disabled

Even "Fuck Atlus, they should let us stream" is alright. Its passionate and might offend some and could derail a thread, but it attempts discussion. Some people didn't get that far.

It's dumb on Atlus's part I guess, but what this highlights for me more than anything is how out of touch I am with what the gaming community wants. I've taken screenshots here and there, but it's not something I actively care about. It kind of blows my mind that someone would outright skip what seems to be a tremendous game just because it lacks social features.

i like sharing gifs of overwatch potgs. i like sharing screenshots of horizon. people like to share gameplay moments. that's why something like sharefactory has been continually updated and added in things like gif support and why you can clip moments on twitch and save them.

Completely nonsensical. If someone wants to avoid spoilers, why would they watch a stream if the game in the first place? The big streamers have dedicated setups for this anyway.

This backward company always does the most. Remember the Persona Arena debacle? Now this BS.

I do think we should all send angry messages to Atlus because just being angry here is not achieving much. Let them feel the wrath.

This adds to discussion

This doesn't.

That's vitrol

This is smart feedback

Not everyone, in the beginning there was good discussion and feedback, which as I've said is good and important. As threads like this go on, sense leaves and all that remains is meaninglessness. The sensible people leave early when it gets like this.
i'm very sorry, am writing a letter to Corporate Atlus JP in my blood begging forgiveness for cursing at them. hope they don't decide to cancel Persona 5, A Corporate Atlus Product, because of me.

Edit: Wait did the second part of my post not promote discussion? Lol. Weird standards...

Do you take pictures every day in life?

..........yes?

How does that inform them to make meaningful change?

Presumably Atlus isn't run by kindergarteners and therefore their execs can make the wild leap of reasoning that if a decision prompts hardcore fans to say "fuck you" then maybe that decision was bad.

Also: nobody asked you to police people's expression here.

It kind of blows my mind that someone would outright skip what seems to be a tremendous game just because it lacks social features.

Most people aren't typically planning on dying in the next 12 months so when a good game ships with an awful problem attached they might as well wait it out and get the game used for $10 down the line.

Let's be real: This probably isn't about spoilers. It's about copyright. A lot of Japanese companies are a lot stricter on copyright than their western counterparts are. Especially when it comes to music and voice acting. Even if you bypass the Share block, I would expect any videos you upload to YouTube to get flagged.

This doesn't impact me at all but can see why others would be annoyed. I can't really get the reasoning for this, it makes no sense. People will still capture it if they really want.

Yeah, the spoilers thing doesn't make any sense. It does make more sense that they don't want people to skip the gameplay and just watch a story synopsis on YouTube, but nothing they can do will stop that.

Where do I submit my posts for you to approve them before I post? Is PM okay?

This thread is actually meaningless and adds nothing to the product or discussions of the product. It can't force Atlus to do anything, much to the chagrin of many posters.

Edit:you added to your post I'm not ignoring it, 1 sec.

What the hell is this thread-whining BS? Get out of here if you don't care. You're the one adding nothing.

i hope the persona 5 OT isn't hit with a take down notice

I was 100% never going to use it or watch any streams like with every other game. I think it's pointless but to block it is stupid for those that care. It is a feature for the system after all.

What's with Japanese games and disabling the screenshot/share feature? All the Tales games do this too.

Is there some kind of cultural thing about sharing gameplay? Is it to prevent something? What is the actual reason for this?

It's a combination of decision-makers who know absolutely nothing about modern trends or how the gaming industry functions outside Japan, corporate structures that actively silence the opinions of young employees, and a decades-old bias towards nonsensically draconian copyright policy all working together to produce this nonsense.

Now that I think of it, this definitely hurts sales. Especially in those circles where not everyone knows about what is happening in the gaming world.

There have been many instances of me sharing screenshots and videos of games with friends that have led to purchases.

A lot of those people would never have exposure unless someone shows them something directly.

atlus blocks share functions
someone says fuck atlus

"wow they are so happy that they want to engage in sexual intercourse with us!"

They should really get over themselves. This also irked me with JoJo's Eyes of Heaven ...once you get to a certain point in the story, you can no longer live stream (or capture at all for that matter), even if you're going back to an old mission. This sort of thing never makes any sense.

I know right? Like I said I know tons of SMT/Persona fans who got into the series through GB's Endurance Run. Still others hopped on board with Persona 4 Golden cause of all the tumblr gifs and pics of new content like the costumes. Even fan comics like the Hiimdaisy comic serve to get people interested in the series.

This is basically free advertising that Atlus is missing out on. And at what cost? To keep those Persona virgins pure and unsoiled from Mara spoilers? I don't get it. Honestly.

It's 2017.

At this point, sharing video games is a part of gaming culture.

This is an incredible decision

As in impossible to believe

Taking and sharing screenshots is a huge part of my Playstation experience, and of course I and many others will want to capture memorable moments from this long-awaited title

Really, picture shares are free advertising. It's strange to forego a bunch of cost-free exposure and goodwill in favor of a frosty discussion of obsolete intellectual property phobias

I hate this. I wish PS4 had an update that changes this.It defeats the purpose of SharePlay. I think shareplay shouldn't be up to developers. it should be its own functions without the game dev. This is a huge feature for me and my friends. We always share games the day we get em and enjoy watching each other play a game, then it makes us get the game for ourselves. It's a feature that truly brings people together.

This is very weird because the basic idea behind blocking share play is debatable.
Blocking parts of the story and some scenes make sense in many games. you just have to be smart about it.

Like if P5 allowed sharing and pictures during mementos exploration and some events i wouldn't think too much about it.

I have plenty of games that are smart and i don't feel under a gag order .. P5 is the opposite.

This is Nintendo in a nutshell in how they've been testing YT.

It's disappointing but I guess I'll just have to use my cellphone camera to take a picture of stuff to upload and share.

I always liked when people shared screenshots of funny lines in Persona 4 Golden.

Namco and Atlus are on a whole other level of cash-related pettiness.

You know, wasn't the screenshot function on Tokyo Mirage Sessions blocked, too? Might be an Atlus thing about sharing things with their games. Still doesn't make any sense.
