Persona 5’s PS4 share features are permanently disabled

A lot of Japanese companies have incredibly backwards views on copyright and social media.

They're so petty and controlling, thinking that they're the only one who can advertise their product. They never realize that a product's popularity has a higher chance to rise if other customers recommend their product to other customers.

I've never tried the series, and I've been thinking of giving this a shot, but this decision is making me reconsider.

It's such a backward thing to do. Like, I feel they have some ignorant people higher up making some boneheaded decisions(to the detriment of the company). They're probably old and/or out of touch.

Yep. There's a reason why Dark Souls became popular.

If they reaaally don't want this streamed, etc, doesn't that kind of confirm no PC version, like..Ever?

I was thinking about this earlier

Wouldn't that be so amusing? If the reason there's no pc ports is because they don't want people streaming and taking screenshots.

I don't think i'd ever stop laughing if they admitted to something like that

It seems hypocritical to not buy the game on the principle that others can't stream it. Surely if you were to purchase the game, you wouldn't need to view streams of it? And if you are someone who generates income from LPs and streaming game content, which more often than not hurts video game sales, there are dozens of alternative capture methods.

Yeah man. Look at how all those streams reduced sales of niche games like Yakuza 0 and Nier Automata.... Oh wait!

I'm honestly thinking about waiting for a sale with this game now. I have plenty of other games in my backlog and this decision to take away a core functionality of contemporary gaming that helps me archive playthroughs is so simple-minded and petty. It's like Altus is run by a bunch of out of touch conservative old men.

I feel like a lot of the people that don't care about sharing being blocked or even like the fact it's blocked, seem to misunderstand why some people enjoy the share features. For me, it has nothing to do with monetary gains, but simply that my friend and I enjoy watching each other play certain games.

Also, your last "statement" couldn't be further from the truth. There are many, many games that only do well because of stream exposure. Or at the very least, it greatly contributes.

Edit: I should also add it's ridiculous to expect me to get a capture card when this is a standard (and free) feature across the majority of PS4 games.

So, if one does PC sharing from PS4, it seems this wouldn't be too hard to get around this block.

In short, the only thing Atlus has achieved is block their customers from trying to sell Atlus' best game of last 6-7 years to other customers... Great job.

- PC Sharing and then recording works fine
- Capture cards work fine
- Cameras/phones work fine

Yes, I can see how PS4 sharing would prevent videos of Persona 5 from appearing on the internet. I mean if you go to Youtube and type Persona 5, there is clearly nothing there...

A lot of Japanese companies have incredibly backwards views on copyright and social media.

And this is actually the reason for completely disabling any sharing features. The not to spoil anything argument is just a silly and very obvious pretext.

Thanks to YouTube related videos, now I know who the first boss is in P5.

God

Fucking

Dammit

We're you in a media blackout? He was in a bunch of trailers.

Most companies are

That sucks. And honestly feels extremely backwards and out of touch with the current gaming market and gaming communities.

I know several people that decided to try Yakuza 0 based almost entirely on all the Gifs and videos and screenshots of the game. Or the other day I posted a boss from Nioh on Facebook and a friend that wasn't aware of it really liked how it looked and is now playign it.

It's sad how most Japanese companies have really backwards looks on sharing. This is the worst example yet but there are countless examples of them getting into legal battles with youtubers or adding giant copyright disclaimers to screenshots.
I know they are managed by 120 years old conservative executives...But at least listen to your marketing team like western devs do.

The worst part is that paired with the glowing reviews, a social media presence would've knocked it out of the park for the franchise.

As long as I can take screens and videos I don't care... never shared anything. And I get their point. There should be a feature where when someone share something in a particular part of a game, it is automatically set as spoiler and blackened if other people don't accept to see it... like the auto disable video recording, should not be too hard to do.

Yo what's up with the defence on a subject I thought be widely unacceptable?

Also how are we so sure they did this for the players?

Complete contradiction in the defence arguments too, "whats the problem, no spoilers" to "Hay just buy a capture card to do the same thing the share feature does fundamentally"

Gotta defend your favorite company. Even when they make stupid decisions.

how does this do anything about 90% of the people who record and post videos already?

is there a sizable amount of people who stream PS4 games directly from the PS4 itself?

sucks about people who like taking in-game screenshots but this seems like something only screwing people and not doing anything about spoilers since spoilers will be posted by people who have proper capture equipment most likely.

Yeah.. "Good thing that it's blocked so that people won't spoil stuff in the Internet" excuse is just silly.

People who deliberately spoil games just to screw others would not stop this easy in the first place.

Heck, they'd still capture them with their phones as the most important thing for spoiling is the context, not picture quality.

Bamco's been blocking sharing features on all their games before it was cool.

Seriously, I wish their games were this popular to have this kind of backlash.

If they really didn't want this streamed couldn't they just tell twitch/YouTube "Hey take it down whenever you see it go up?" As far as I know twitch does do this and in YouTube's case I think it's even automatic with their contentid system.

I wonder if they (Atlus JP) hate GB's P4 Endurance Run for similar reasons?

It's was really got me into Persona & SMT. I have spent so much money on Atlus products since.

This is shitty! Don't take away my features just because someone may possibly run into a spoiler somehow. WTF Earth is this? Stay off of YouTube if you don't want spoilers. This is madness! Fuck this game.

This is weird, as it's not much of a hurdle for people with Elgatos etc, i.e., it just hurts people relying on native ps4 UI. Don't like.

Definitely not getting this when it releases. Will wait for a sale.

Just so we're clear, for some of us (me specifically) the lack of a share feature does not mean we're 'boycotting' the game. We're just expressing our displeasure in regards to the game purposefully blocking a system-level feature.

You can't take screen and videos though. The whole share feature is disabled.

They (the morons who make these decisions) hate any form of marketing they cannot control because they are too insecure and ignorant about the direction of social trends online in the past decade. It's pretty sad because I think the developers of Persona have a very keen sense of what younger people want and what they go through today, and it's really neat how they implemented the online social features for Catherine and Persona 5 to take advantage of the increasing interest people have in statistical data.

So I can't even take a screenshot for myself on my own console? That's really bad if true.
You can't. The whole function is disabled.

Yeah, same here. I have this pre-ordered and I'm gonna play the hell out of it come April 4th. I'm just really annoyed by this stupid decision from Atlus. And people are free to do whatever they want to do with their money, but I really don't think simply boycotting the game would send the massage, since they wouldn't actually know why you decided to skip the game.

I wish there was someway for us to let them know how much we hate this decision.
I wish John was still here :(
