Persona 5 Famitsu details

i remember there was a thread a while back with talks about this coming to PC? is there any more truth to that?
No, someone from Atlus usa said something like "never say never but its not in their plans soon" so lets keep asking : p

Doesnt help it was a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that was hard to interpret in the context.

I'm hoping this extra time allows them to polish up the PS4 version as much as possible. They haven't elaborated yet as to the differences between the versions.
PV 1 and 2 were from the PS3 version and PV 3 was from the PS4 version. If you compare the first to the third it looks a lot better visually in the third PV

Yep, you can also see Hashino playing the PS4 version in the developer diary they released

that makes it possible imo.

Frankly, apart from Xenoblade Chronicles X, it's the game I'm anticipating the most.

Every teaser and trailer has been perfect. Be it the graphics; the music, the overall style, everything looks insanely good. I'm not even mad the game has been delayed when I see all of this and reading about what is made for us.

Now, we only need Japanese VA for the western version and it would be perfect !

Both are just going to be resolution bumps from their last-gen versions. FF15 is probably going to be the first big next-gen JRPG.
eh, i wouldn't say this game or star ocean 5 wouldn't be big releases just coz their cross gen. ffs15 is just a title which wouldn't have any technical setbacks. were destiny and da3 not considered big new gen releases?
Just as someone said...in 5, 10 years : p
and as I said in a response, in that time, wouldn't it be reasonable to think that perhaps 2 more persona installments would release?

It will have been 8 years since Persona 4 by the time 5 comes out.

And there are two years between the release 3 and 4 because they share technology and tons of assets.

6 is going to benefit from a lot of the work they're doing on 5. That doesn't necessarily mean it's going back down to a two year wait, but eight? Something terrible would have to happen.

holy shit, maybe just 1 then.

but we did have p4arena in between yeah?

Sure, but I don't think that really matters.
Persona 3 Portable came out after Persona 4 came out for example.
There is no real rule that a Persona 5 port could not come out after other Persona games.

In any case though I really don't think the game will ever come to PC.

Merely saying that a 5-10 year gap doesn't necessarily mean there will be 1 or 2 new persona games in that time frame.
I'm sure people didn't think it would be 8 years until Persona 5 when Persona 4 released, so who knows.

well. playstation exclusive it is then.

There are more allusions to Persona 2 than to any other Persona game so far. Which definitely was darker in theme than Persona 4 and arguably Persona 3.
That being said though, I don't think anyone doubts that there will be upbeat moments in the game. Even Persona 1 and 2 had comical moments in them.

The problem I have with this is that when people think of "dark" they think about P3 "13 year olds think is cool" kind of dark. After playing personally the original personas, their "dark" themes are more mature. This game seems carrying that torch, but also the likeness of character gang of P4 upbeatness.

Awesome piece! I've never seen it before. Although I don't know enough about the Doo-verse to know who Rise, Naoto, and Kanji are supposed to be.

Thanks!
As there are of course more characters in P4 than Scooby Doo, I went through the some of the other detective club series Hanna Barbera had after the popularity of Scooby Doo. Some of the archetypes are also taken from Speed Buggy, The Funky Phantom, Captain Caveman, Jabberjaw... to name a few. Some of the P4 characters Ive drawn are more a mix of characters of all this series than only scooby doo gang. You can see a more cleaner version of the characters in the tumblr postI uploded them:
http://spridley.tumblr.com/post/85162383300/here-are-the-standalone-characters-from-the-group
And yep, I really like Hanna Barbera character design, we are doing a game that uses a similar artstyle for character designs.

With much of the engine work done it should be a quicker turnaround but they're long to develop simply by their nature of being so wide and varied and always taking more time to polish everything up. So it shouldn't take 8 years for Persona 6 but it also should take more than 2 I feel. 3-4 years sounds about right.

In the meantime there'll likely be a lot of Persona games but not the mainline RPG kind, more like the titles that happened in between P4 and P5: P3P for PSP (which was P3 but with a female main character route added and a lot of work to make it run on PSP), P4 Golden (which added a lot of extra content and gameplay improvements), P4 Dancing All Night and supervising the two fighting games (P4 Arena) and Persona Q (the Etrian Odyssey-like dungeon crawler). P-Studio also developed Catherine during those 8 years. So they did a lot, just not a mainline RPG.

This is probably a very stupid question so don't laugh, but Ann's persona is Carmen right? That isn't based on Carmen Sandiego is it?

Unlike the protagonists and their friends in Persona 3 and Persona 4 who become directly involved together to solve a specific incident, the cast of Persona 5 are involved with social reformation and atonement.

This is cool. I like the idea of being a shitty kid at school, like Kaneda in Akira - a Tokyo bad boy.

Players will be able to explore various locations in the Greater Tokyo Area, as seen in trailers.

Loving this. I hope there's a lot of food to eat.

Really want to hear about the dungeons and if they're doing anything to mix it up - trailers make it seem like it, but I'd love more details.

Looking at the page featuring Yusuke, he looks like Jun more than Jun does in some new artworks of the PSP version, what the hell lol.

Canon romance~

I'd be fine with this, honestly.

But with the way it sounds like they're going with the story I doubt we'll even get any 'romance' S-Links like in P3 and P4. We'll get as far as some female characters crushing on the MC with silly fan service scenes (cooking ones are my favourite), and that's it.

Unlike Persona 3 and Persona 4, Persona 5‘s story is designed to be like an “omnibus,” with no one specific enemy or criminal that the team chases after. Like a serial drama TV show, the Phantom Thieves change the targets they chase regularly.

A fundamental part of the story is the mystery behind a phone application called “Isekainabi” (“Otherworldnavi” or “Parallel World Navigation”). Using this app, the main characters discover the location of their targets and are able to infiltrate the other world known as “Palace” to steal the hearts of “rotten people.”

Hmm, so no centralized villain at all? I'm curious as to how all their heist targets relate to one another.

There's a Carmen episode of Hey Arnold!

Based on the opera Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet. In Hey Arnold! they were parodying Habanera portion of the opera. What a great show.

So looking at the Famitsu screenshots, it seems that Demon negotiation is in?

Also I don't think we've seen any talking busts yet, actually. I wonder how the dialogue will be presented in this game.

We've seen talking busts. It's more like P4A with moving mouths.

If it was well written (by anime standards) and we still got to do optional dates and stuff, I'd be all for this.

I always prefer fixed canon romance because it allows the writers to commit to a developing relationship and dynamic.

Waifu-ing and harems are fun, but I've been thirsty for a good JRPG romance in a long while ever since Tales romance stopped being consistent.

Look forward to seeing them announce more of the party members. One of my favorite things about the Persona games is how well they manage to flesh out a large cast of characters.

I've spent the last week with Habanera stuck on a loop in my head thanks to the Carmen/Carmen Sandiego discussion. Cheers, Persona 5! (I also maintain that more people would be into opera if they knew the sheer amount of cleavage that is often involved.)

There's a Carmen episode of Hey Arnold!

Edit: Here it is!

I had no idea this existed, ohmygod. Thank you!

What implication could there possibly be that they're removing what is easily one of the most popular aspects of their games?

I find that doubtful.

Demon negotiations being in does not mean s-links will be cut.
I like the way s-links relate to fusing and buffing Personas, but randomly acquiring them after battle isn't the most exciting thing (since most of the ones you get this way suck and it feels like you're generally getting the same few) and that could definitely be improved upon.

apparently that screen shows the prompt for all out attack. Not negotiation. Thank god.

It says "Like P3 and P4", so I'm assuming what they mean is each 'target' is a chapter or whatever but there's probably an overarching thread with what's going on.

It says "unlike P3 and P4" in the OP. I'm sure there is somekind of overarching thread. I'm just curious as to how they are linked together.

I really hope no other games are inspired to follow the mission-based structure of MGSV. It's the worst thing about the game.

Sounds like they are talking more of a narrative perspective, as others have said multiple arcs building on eachother like any number of manga/anime stories.

My thoughts to a tee.
