Care of http://www.siliconera.com/2015/02/09/persona-5-details-protagonist-setting-dungeons/

+ The protagonist is a second-year high school student (the new kid in town, may or may not be a thief)
+ Social links are in (in some form)
+ Not all dungeons are randomly generated (but some probably are)
+ Starts in Shibuya, set in other Tokyo locations as well (Almost certainly a beach at some point)
+ Problems will be solved (but some probably won't be ... at least without a guide)

Operation babe hunt Part 2

That was virtually no new information. lol

Thought they would be 3rd years tho.

Somewhere on GAF I had read that making them 3rd years would be difficult because 3rd years rarely have any time to focus on clubs and such, it's almost entirely cram-school and getting ready for entrance exams. 2nd year makes sense for these kinds of games because they're old enough to be familiar with the school and young enough to still engage in a lot of extracurricular stuff.

I like how pretty much all of that info in the op is basically, maybe this...but maybe not hey we'll see.

Good. I don't want to see much more info about this game...

Aren't you referring to a NeoGAF post? I don't remember them saying this at all in an interview.

Did they give any date to look forward to the new singer reveal?

Nope. All we know related to that is that the song in the trailer is indeed the instrumental version of the main theme song.

The only info I want now is how social links will work and how Personas will work.

I'm with LX_Theo: I pretty much just need a release date, and I'm good. Literally don't care about seeing anything else before the game comes out. It's gonna be a brutal wait...

We're going to have to add new rules to the community thread regarding P5.

If we get a date, and it's reasonably close (basically a reconfirmation of 2015 in NA), I'm fine with having only that until launch.

No way they'd give up on marketing though, of course there will be more. I'm not sure if I'll resist watching.

whaaat theres a new singer doing the vocals for P5?

Yup, confirmed during Super Live.

I know, but I thought that's exactly why they are 3rd years - to emphasize the 'struggle' theme.

Is this in addition to previous singers?

Yeah I figured that would tie in well with the delinquent or slacker aspect that a lot of people thought would highlight the group this go around. Going against the norm and rebelling against the status quo and what have you. But I guess not. Not a big deal really.

Going to stick with the fictional/mythology theme and say Urizen from the works of William Blake. The great architect and embodiment of a structured, ordered reality that the characters fight against, and who symbolises the constraining forces of conventional society more generally.

That's fucking brilliant. Now if they don't do that, I'm going to be a little sad. Fighting Urizen as a gentleman thief is one of the classiest, most romantic (in the literary sense) things I can think of. I really hope you're right.

I think I prefered living in a world where I thought everyone enjoyed Persona 4 :/

Edit: Actually seeing all the criticism just makes me worry that I can't escape my own nostalgia because I didn't really have any of the same issues with the game.

And to that I say, good riddance! I'm glad there's a constructive discussion, more often than not I see too much nuthugging going on than anything else.

P4 was overall an enjoyable game, but like others already brought up it definitely had its share of flaws with loads of room for improvement. I do like how the reinventions P5 claims to have are in the areas that I had issues with in the previous games, but right now there are not enough details as to what those changes are exactly to start making any some of judgement. Though the fact that changes are being made in those areas already is definitely encouraging.

There's guaranteed to be some sort of skeevy scene where the male characters are accused of peeping on the female characters and one/all of of them gets smacked.

lol

I take a guess and say that Persona 5 will follow a structure similar to Persona 3's: You're exploring a randomly generated dungeon for most of the month with one heist at the end or start of a month.

That's my guess as well, though it should be noted that even Tartarus and the P4 dungeons had certain floors that weren't randomly generated.

Yeah but they were still the same crummy random generation blocks, just in a set order. Not exactly anything mind blowing. The fact that we have legit fully crafted locations, with unique gameplay actions no less, is a huge bump up. I don't mind randomly generated maze like dungeons, I liked the SMTIV ones a lot, but it can't be the only thing. A bit both sounds perfect.

P3: Boys actually try to do it and get caught
P4: Boys don't try to do it but accidentally do it and get smacked
P5: I dunno, maybe the girls try to do it? Ha Ha. Yeah right.

I would be happy as fuck if that happened in P5, just because it would be hilarious

Safe to say a full translation of the interview will be out in a week or two?

No, this is the full translation for the Famitsu magazine releasing this week.

Edit: Well, I suppose since it isn't "out", there might be some tiny things people have missed? Wouldn't expect it, though.

It's confirmed that the trailer music is the theme song instrumental?

I guess I can grin and bear it since everything else about the trailer is so good, but I really am not feeling that theme.

I've played every Persona. I mean the immediate sycophantic fervor in which people cling to your every word and rely on you to solve all their deep seated issues was exclusive to Persona 4. I'd like some more natural friendship development.

I was actually hoping they'd get rid of Social Links because of this. I'm at least extremely hopeful they completely retool the system.

Catherine practically had a Social Link system (with the people of Stray Sheep), and that's definitely not how Vincent was portrayed, for the most part. It was really just a case for the Persona 4 protagonist.

Oh I agree, it seems like they're taking and improving upon P3's full moon dungeons and I'm all for it. I just wanted to also mention that those weren't the only non-random portions is all, even if the floors I mentioned were just specific iterations of the standard dungeon floors.

Agreed, I always felt things were too forced in P4. I know a lot of people liked that better than how things are in P3, but I prefer P3 because it felt like the friendships and team camaraderie grew at a more realistic pace given the setting and storyline.

Personally I found there was very little friendship in Persona 3, it felt really hollow. It felt stagnate and it never move forward at all.

I prefered the friendship in Persona 3. I always felt MC, Junpei and Yukari were pretty good friends, with the rest being not super close, but still friends. Then there were the inter team relationships that happened without you. It felt more natural imo, even if all of the P4 cast didn't exactly seem like the closest of friends.

Like someone said earlier, you don't have to be doing stuff together all the time to be good friends. I sure as hell didn't hang out with my friends nearly as much at that age.

Initially. That was the point, from Soejima interviews to Persona Q which explicitly points it out when they talk about how the Investigation Team's dynamic differs from SEES. They were just coworkers; a bunch of people who would never actually hang out together, forced to cooperate because of the circumstances. It's as the story goes on that they start becoming naturally closer to one another, with each character having distinct arcs that they follow (
Junpei overcoming his jealousy due to his complex, Yukari overcoming her persistent cynicism towards her seniors, Mitsuru gaining an appreciation for her comrades outside of their use for battle/the mission...
). It all came together quite nicely, which was a definite contrast to Persona 4's "they're all close friends right when they meet each other."

I couldn't relate to any of the characters in P3 as well, partly due to the fact that nearly everyone's issue is that their angst stemmed from their <insert dead family member here> being dead, which is one of the most tired cliches ever. The fact that the writing felt like shallow EVA fan fiction didn't help either.

Except they never did and the way they handled character development felt sterile and clinically executed.
