Rumor has it that Konami scored individual licenses for about half the league. Plus, we have no idea what the ramifications of the CL are. Could they have every UEFA CL team licensed in a seperate CL mode? We'll see.

How can you tell from any video wether Fifa is better than PES this year and vice versa?
 
Well I found that trailer kind of pointless since it doesnt show any gameplay, at least the replays look nice and the presentation too... oh well I hope the demo is out soon
 
I keep watching the trailer over and over again listening to the music. At least I have this to keep me going until the FIFA demo later today.

I've had preview code for a while and the presentation...well it looks different, but in terms of how everything works, it's completely the same as before. And the menus really aint all that stylish.
 
Are we going to have the same release date in the US for this as Europe?

Or, is it going to be like last year, and we have to wait 4 months?

Yeah keep telling yourself that mate, you might believe it one day. When it comes to simulation. FIFA is the most realistic! The deflections in FIFA are crazy and superb! You dont get them in PES. midfield battles happen loads in FIFA as that is where most of the game is played in real life. But hey I guess you like the wide open space you get on the wings in PES!! :)
 
I'm just glad I don't have to see Ronaldinho's fugly face on another cover this year. How many years in a row has EA been using that wash-up?

as this is PES thread, i feel comfortable to tell you that I dont agree... :-).

FIFA 2008 made my want to pull my teeth out. PES 2008 is so much more playable and gameplay is so much better, it isnt funny.

FIFA always outsells pro evo, even when fifa was complete shit it out sold it.

At least in Europe.

Really split over pro evo 2009, I really hated 2008 and after Metal Gear Online I still don't trust Konami to not fuck up the online.

But WTF to the Wii version launch date.

I mean, sure, PES 2008 Wii was launched last March (probably due to development, being the first Wii PES and all), it could be a little fucked up to release a "sequel" in just 6 months.

HOWEVER

It's so much more fucked up to release the mother fucking 2008/2009 season's version when it's only 2 months till the end of the season. sigh

Fucking exclusive license bullshit by EA. Makes me hate the fuckers, even though they've made big strides with FIFA.

While I'll buy FIFA PC this year (current-gen graphics + PES Wii's control scheme = brilliant move), I'm banking on PES to have the superior gameplay again.

Now that's what I'm talking about, awesome.

The worst part about PES is waiting for two to four weeks until the edited options file is out and the Bundesliga (which are the most important club teams for me) + renamed and edited players for the national teams (where most of my playtime is) are in the game.
 
so PES has shat on FIFA for YEARS, but at the first sign of trouble fans they decide to give up on the franchise? I still play and buy both games every year, and aside from graphics I really see no difference between FIFA 08 and the last few years.

Im not saying PES doesnt need to get better graphically, they really need a severe overhaul, but PES still resembles the game of soccer much better than FIFA ever did. Most of the time I play FIFA I need to play it like its fucking hockey in order for me to be successful.

Nope pro evolution is more realistic, fifa is too slow compared to real life and fifa players can barely take it round other players unlike real life, also the shooting isn't realistic either.

Now, now. FIFA has made steady advances in the last few years, denying that would be just stupid.

And honestly? The moment FIFA surpasses PES in terms of gameplay is the day I switch. But PES still has the clear edge in that - ultimately - most important aspect, and EA knows that. Why do you think EA stressed this year that they increased responsiveness and player AI in their game? Because they know that's where they are behind.

PES is still gameplay king and therefore - footy game king.

:lol Pretty much. Konami knows they're behind in that area, so that's where they spent most of their resources (it seems). It's all pretty clear-cut if you think about it.

It just used to be Football = Pro Evo, but now EA have finally realised they've been putting out shit for years and stepped up.

Its great for everyone, will force both to improve.
 
Meh, what a waste of money.

Would rather they used the money to hire a few extra developers so we could actually see some improvements every year.
 
Looks brilliant, they've even got the ace pre-match CL formation animation. And the CL music is always awesome.

Encouraging, but I'm not sold until I finally play it.
 
I would agree that it looks no more than an upscaled PS2 game in places, but this is one series which historically I couldn't have cared less what the graphics were like as the gameplay was so damn good. And I hope it turns out to be the case this year.

but the problem is that Fifa has surpassed PES as a soccer simulation now and has great graphics.

Last years PES was an arcade game compared to fifa.

Yeah I bought and quickly returned last year's PES, but what I'm saying is I'm willing to look past the substandard graphics if it has the classic PES gameplay of old. Whether it does or not is something I don't know, and I remain sceptical after last year's version.

Either way I'll be trying out both the FIFA and PES demos (assuming SCEE actually update the store at some point) and I'll decide on that basis.

fifa has great graphics, a LOT better than PES. Not to mention licensing. But gamplay, animations and individual player models/animations are much better in PES. And finally full edit mode will be awesome this year for PES as well.

We keep repeating this every thread, no sense to keep going at it. It is as it is.

Animations seem to be way better in Fifa Specially the running animation. In terms of gameplay the only thing PES had over fifa was ball physics as i really liked the weight of the ball.

Fifa had way better(realistic) pacing and gameplay IMO. Please point me to where you think the animation and gameplay is better is PES?

PES last year had no midfield play it was extremely fast and arcadey.

edit: what player models do you think look better in PES? :lol
