PewDiePie responds to talks about how much he makes

TV personalties and wall street bankers earn way more than him yet we don't get angry about them. People love to bicker and squabble amongst one another. Good on him for breaking through.

He's an entertainer. Successful entertainers make lots of money. I don't understand how some people are disgusted by it. I think it's partially to do with jealousy in the amount he makes for his armchair theatrics and over the top editing.

I'm glad he's defending himself. I don't see why this guy should be shit on because he became successful making Youtube videos playing video games.

People like his videos and he earns money off the ads. He has to put work into making videos so he isn't sitting down doing nothing all day.

There are people out there who probably make as much or more, for doing less.

That response video shows he's not some arrogant moron, or whatever people tend to assume from his brand of humor. I like him and I think he's sincere.

I don't care about his content and I'm incredibly jelly of his bankroll but that's about it. I don't hate the guy for that, I'm just peanut butter and jelly
This is where 99% of the hate comes from overall, though. The idea of "well I could have been a YouTube personality, too!" isn't hard for people to be frustrated over. At least with, say, sports, it's impossible for most people to say they could easily have been in the same situation. Or an accomplished actor, or award-winning musician, etc.
How is this guy any different from any other entertainer making money.
It's not, which is why the above 99% of people are allowed to be jealous but don't have a right to blindly hate the guy. There are countless entertainers and sports players of all types that make so much money it makes me ill, but since I am 1) not in charge of determining how much their product is worth and 2) self aware that it's mostly just jealousy, it's not fair for me to hate them personally.

I don't entirely like the guy but I'm more understanding the past few years that he's just a performer like any other. His craft is just so new that we're not used to how it's judged.

He sounds like a super villain when he laughs. 2:28 That's definitely the laugh of someone who gets millions of dollars for playing games and talking about them.

Interesting, at that link he says something to the effect that 5 years later he is still happy. I think most people would be pretty happy after 5 years of having fun playing video games and millions of dollar later.

Boy, that's a really nice income!

I know the guy gets a lot of hate, but I do think it's good that people like him get those figures, who care about their audience and interact with them, instead of people like Darksydephil. Altough enjoyable to watch (for all the wrong reasons) he is for example a lousy businessman, begs for money and shits on his audience - sadly quite a common sight on YouTube/Twitch.

The Man found a schtick that people love, he makes A LOT of dough doing it. Good for him.

I just don't think he brings anything to the table, besides something that is infantile.

The guy is successful while hurting no one along the way and obviously bringing entertainment to many. The raw jealousy of those that are upset by it is gross.

I mean, I get what you're saying but at the same time none of the guys who say "oh I could be a youtube personality too!" fucking can, or at least didnt try.

this dude is good looking, good with editing, caters to an audience he very much understands, and basically created his own thing

im not saying he's as talented as a skilled mucisian, but he did something and just went for it and achieved it through work

I get "jealous" of this guy as much as I ocassionally get from someone who worked and achieved something cool, regardless of their status

Mad respect for him. Never watched any of his videos, but I'm glad he's doing well.

Any press is good press. He wins no matter if people hate him or not.

Only thing i watched from him was the lets play TLOU, after i finished the game and i really did enjoyed watching him and other youtubers to see they opinions and reaction to some of the game moments.

Good for him that he can make a living doing something he loves. I didnt knew he was the #1 Youtuber, its crazy the amout of followers he achieved, props for him for a job well done.

He's a cool, likeable dude. People get upset over the dumbest shit. Why the fuck should you care about what some other person makes? The dude obviously works hard and he does a good job at it.

He's right, haters gonna hate. More power to him really. Doing something he loves and getting paid handsomely for it. I and every single hater would be doing the same if we could.

I hate people who get all pissy over someone else's success like go build your empire instead of harbouring resentment over another's.

Nice guy, but it saddens me that the type of content he puts out is the hottest stuff in LPing. Poor influence on everything else.

I used to watch his videos, but his constant screaming/cutting/rape jokes wore thin after a while. Fair play to him for making money from his passion, though.

Agreed. It's real weird and creepy when people get angry about what other people are making.

Don't care about this either way but I must say I just watched his response and loved it. I hope I would respond the same way if I were in his position.

Good for him. He's passionate about his work and loves what he does. Those things preceded his wealth. Sounds like he's fortunate and grateful for the things that his success has brought to him.

This video made me like him a hell of a lot more. He was a lot more genuine than he seemed in all the videos I've watched of his. I understand genuine personality doesn't sell quite as well, but it's a shame since I'd actually be kind of interested in watching his videos if he was just shooting the shit like this.

Honestly I'm super jealous of how much money he makes doing something he finds fun. Good for him though, and he comes off pretty genuine here

It always sad to see people waste time hating on people like pewdie when there are people out there really worth hating: Murderers, drug dealers, lizard squad, etc.

He produces content that millions of people find entertaining and get paid for it. How is this any different from an entertainer from any other field?

If you're going to be jealous of Youtubers for making a good living off their videos, then be prepared to rage at every successful actor, actress, comedian, and musical artist since they easily can make ten times what PewDiePie does.

Good point- I have NEVER seen comments on Leo Kottke's videos being so vitriolic and mean-spirited. It's not the person or the success that's the catalyst, it's the audience and content. And again, is more parody than reality, for better or worse. Each of us can decide how to react and (hopefully) move on with our own lives without being envious.

Apparently people don't get how Youtube works, and considering he's the #1 subscribed channel, it's no shocker.

I'm not the market for his videos, which is fine, but if someone tells me to watch anything of his I'll just say lolno, I consider him an entertainer for kids-teenagers, so whatever. I don't get why he's huge, but whatever. He seems like a genuinely good person, and that has been proven. I'd rather him make millions than some asshole.

"that much" ?

He is one of the people with most subscribers EVER on youtube.

I was expecting WAY MORE from "that much" =P

he's probably underpaid considering the demo he reaches.

honestly I kinda think that too. I mean, im not saying I personally think he deserves more money, but he reaches far more people than a lot of entertainers that surely make a lot more.

I have nothing against him as a person. It's perfectly normal to despise the type of content he creates. I don't understand how being jealous of a dude who makes 7 million in a single year is somehow a crazy knock on people who dislike his material. Let's ignore the fact that he's just some guy on the internet. If there's anything I can judge it's his shitty ass content. We don't even know him.
