This is not a complain, I think it's fine to post these and I love you both, Komps and Uber (more Uber than Komps
kiddin <3
), so don't get me wrong. But I need to get this out of my chest: I love photography and digital art, really, but I have an irrational disdain for this kind of pics that try pass as real well made photographs. Not that I'm against editing or any kind of manipulation, but I always feel like as if the guy who did it is trying to BS me. Am I alone with that? :c

The photo I posted is a digital composite. Multiple photos will have been taken at a variety of exposures and stacked. The star zoom effect is achieved by adjusting the focal length of the lens whilst the shutter is open.

In short: you can't get results like these in one shot, but aside from compositing and a bit of colour correction and toning, it's unfair to shrug captures like these off as 'Photoshops', as the majority of the work is done with the setup and camera.

*EDIT* I may have been a little misleading, so to save my skin and break it down in more digestible terms, here's a picture form the artist outlining his process:

Oh, so the guy actually showed how he did that, so it's okay, I guess. :3 It's just that I'm kind of tired to see some stupid Facebook pages listing "THE MOST AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHS" with stuff like that, and I'm like "this isn't a real photograph, you f*cks ¬¬". By the way, I'm actually more impressed by the second pic (the one with the zoomed stars) than by the final product, heh.

If you see a night shot with everything perfectly exposed, it's (more than likely) a stack of several photos composited in Ps - especially those with star trails.
But yeah, I share your pain... equally, finding photos that have been absolutely ravaged by Photoshop's adjustment tools makes me wince. You get a lot of those slip through the net on r/Earthporn and the like. "Ooh look, acid green grass and lovely splotches of purple/green noise, my fave - plenty of chromatic abberation to boot too, 'cos the 'photographer' is using a shitty 18-55mm kit lens from 2011".
*EDIT* Here's a fitting culprit... Zoom in.

There's also this travesty that I've seen garner buckets of praise on the net despite being clearly (to anyone with a layman's knowledge of photography) Photoshopped:

Depth of field what?

Ahem.

Sorry.

This one's good. Photographer could have used a faster shutter speed, but they were probably working with limitations given the lighting. It's nice as it is, anyway, I'm just nit-pick mode after the above examples.

Now you're hurting my feelings. I'm still using a Sony H50 from 2008. :c

Good job DD! You ruined everything! It was all going so well until you told me I had mistakenly posted a composite as a real photograph. Now I can never post anything here again in the fear that it's fake and I look like a doofus.

If you want to make your brain hurt more, youtube "contact juggling" .. it is a type of juggling that most modern techniques were created by Michael Moschen

Man, that's a blast from the past. I remember getting high and watching Michael Moschen videos when I was in college ~20 years ago (yes, I'm old).

Every fucking pic of Great Britain.

They touch them up to the max.

I dare you to post a "post pics of your home town" thread in OT now and see for yourselves.

Rising up from the Salisbury plains, the Iron Age Hillfort of Old Sarum is hard to miss. Site of the original Salisbury, this mighty Iron Age hill fort boasts far-reaching views across the Wiltshire countryside. With a history spanning over 5000 years, Old Sarum is one of the most enthralling and historically important sites in southern England.
