Shit looks pretty neat. I'm disappointed that the rumored Pikmin game isn't a traditional Pikmin game but it looks great all the same.
It'd need a dark and gritty art style, where all the characters have realistic human proportions, including the Pikmin.
The game would have to take place in a grimdark cyberpunk apocalyptic future, and the plot would have to be centered around helping the last of the remaining Native Earthlings survive by collecting bits of construction material to help improve the Human's makeshift shelter with.
It'd have to be almost everything that Pikmin isn't, to even compare

Reading more of this thread, and wow at people calling this a shitty spinoff.
First off nothing about it is shitty, seems like it'll be great from the footage.
And its not a spinoff. Was Ocarina of Time a spinoff since it was 3D? Its the same basic gameplay of Pikmin but 2D. Its definitely considered a mainline game from Nintendo.

It reminds me of Lemmings and Steamworld Heist. Lemmings because of a collective of minions at your command to traverse 2D level overcoming puzzles and obstacles. Steamworld Heist because that game took the essence of turn based genre in 3D, overhead map or isometric perspective and built gameplay mechanics for it to work in 2D.
I wonder if seeing Olimar and Pikmin in Smash Bros had anything to do with the inspiration in making a 2D game.
Comparing this to Ocarina is probably the stupidest thing ive read in this thread.

Since I didn't see a Miyamoto appearance for this one, I'm more inclined to believe in that Arztest is making this entry and the next one is actually Pikmin 4-what are these new photos I see.

You know what? Screw the haters. This looks rough but it's early and I'm excited. The fact that Nintendo is experimenting with a new idea rather than just port the game to a handheld makes me really happy.

Debating whether this is just 3D art or an actual console's graphics. Leaning toward art, but the ground texture is kinda blurry so it confuses me.

They look very amateur tbqh. For Nintendo standards at least.
Plus there's also the fact that Alph's Smash trophy was uploaded to the Models Resource not too long ago. They could have taken the models from there.

Are you serious? The models are low poly and the ground texture is Wii aera like blurry. Either this is a rendered Pikmin for 3DS art by Nintendo or by a fan, or it really is a new Wii U game, but not NX.
to me it's not even that. The whole thing looks a lot like Pikmin 3. As in, exactly like Pikmin 3. but the lighting seems legit (anyone with more experience please enlighten us) yet the picture itself makes no sense. First of all, all three pics are static. They are making the same pose and nothing changes except for the camera angles. Second, why exactly would they do something like this? What benefit would Nintendo have in making these screenshots? They are not very compelling to say the least.
So there's a decent chance that this is an Nintendo EPD project, then? That's at the very least a good sign for the quality of this game if it's true.

About the low poly, I dunno, current games on PS4 XONE also use very low poly stuff depending on the distance (I guess)

Exactly. I'm down with the concept, now the execution depends on who is developing.
This is clearly not Pikmin in a new dimension like Ocarina of Time was. They've completely gutted the RTS elements and as a result have slowed down the game. It's also appears to be stage based instead of having a few large areas to explore.
It being a spin-off is fine as long as this isn't the Pikmin game Miyamoto has been talking about.
Hasn't Miyamoto personally announced all main line Pikmin games?

Dude this game was almost finished last year. How can a 3DS game that was almost finished in July 2015 take a whole year and half later to finish?
Come on man. Pikmin 4 would be announced by Miyamoto. Three straight games on consoles with a great look too them. It's clear that Pikmin 4 was moved from Wii U to NX.
This is a spin off title and it doesn't even have a name!

Guys, since Nintendo even said Pikmin 4 was in development, wouldn't they have called this Pikmin 4 if that's what it is? We weren't given a subtitle which likely means they haven't thought of one yet. Why wouldn't they title a proper Pikmin at its announcement? This is not Pikmin 4.
