Pikmin side-scroller announced for Nintendo 3DS, coming 2017

What makes the comparisons worse is that many people complaining about Fed Force said they are pissed because there is no mainline Metroid announced. I heard this time and time and time again. They don't have any reassurance that a standard Metroid is coming at all so that makes them more scared and sad and whatever else. People said that is why Fed Force got a different reaction that Triforce Heroes.

Now here we have a clear Pikmin spin-off and people are freaking out when we KNOW Pikmin 4 is in development! Why would you think this is Pikmin 4??? Why do people think this is a ruined version in 2D when it's just taking the basic mechanics and putting it into a 2d puzzle/action/ platformer?

Get a grip.

Yeah, I know this is not Pikmin 4 and one is still coming to NX.

I'll probably not play this one, because it doesn't look good to me, but I'll still play Pikmin 4 when that comes out.

With that out of the way, I'm kinda baffled how they turned Pikmin, a series that has amazing and unique gameplay, into another generic 2D platformer. Of all the things they could've done with the series on 3DS they choose to shit out what to me looks like "3DS 2D platformer template with a different skin". This game looks extremely uncreative and devoit of anything worthwhile to me

So apparently the team behind Yoshi's New Island is making this

um...

yeah...

Yoshi's New Island is trash because Yoshi side-scrollers are trash.

This is a new frontier for Pikmin. Don't let this news bring the game down.

These people have a history, man. They developed both my least favourite DS and 3DS games. I can't ignore that.

For those saying the game looks awful, does this not look like it's very early in development? It looked oddly barren, but I'm excited for the premise nonetheless.

I always thought they'd do this since 2. Brawl only drove the point home even more that the Pikmin concept is kind of cool in 2D.

You know, I was day-dreaming in the middle of August about what amazing announcements we'd see from Nintendo in September....and this was at the top of my list.

I wonder why Nintendo is giving its franchises today these C tier teams. Like when Suzak or whatever it was called got to develop F-Zero and Wario.

On the bright side: This game likely isn't what Miyamoto was talking about.

That was also my immediate reaction. Closest we'll get to confirmation that this isn't Pikmin 4. I never thought it was, but it's nice to have more evidence that it's not.

Early in development? That's that Artoon™ patented stylistic touch.

Do you believe Happy Home Designer means there won't be another traditional Animal Crossing game and HHD is the next main game in the Animal Crossing series?

Because this is exactly the same thing, right on down to the same time frame since the last major release. And even a similar number of past games.

The entire crux of your argument relies on a quote that Miyamoto never said. He said a fourth installment was in development. Nintendo wanted a Pikmin game on 3DS, they said in interviews the traditional style didn't work. This style does.

You're also acting like the sky is falling. Pikmin is a major series backed by Shigeru Miyamoto. Something Chibi-robo isn't. So I'm pretty sure we'll get another new game after this one. Probably a more traditional one at that. But if there is it's either not in development or so early in development that it contradicts Miyamoto's "close to completion" quote. There's never more than one major franchise game in active development at the same time unless it's like Mario or Pokemon. I'd doubt Nintendo would risk cannibalization by releasing two games in a smaller franchise at the same time. So yes this is probably the "Pikmin 4" Miyamoto was referring to. It's going to get shown off more and receive the same level of promotion as all their other first party games. Something you have to deal with. Although keep in mind this isn't the end of Pikmin. Just like how Federation Force wasn't the end of Metroid.

Well, at least there is another Pikmin game done by Miyamoto's team, right? Right?

Nevermind. Optimism killed. All hope is lost.

Fuck Artoon/Arzest. They're awful. I'm willing to give this game a shot still but, goddamn. Those guys already repeatedly did an awful job with Yoshi, Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite games ever and they consistently disappointed me with their followups. Please get your shit together for Pikmin, Arzest, I want to actually enjoy this game. This may turn out okay but, I'm instantly skeptical now that we know the developer here. Please defy my expectations, Arzest.

ALSO - this seems like pretty definitive proof that this isn't Pikmin 4, because Miyamoto was working on 4. Arzest is a separate studio, so yeah. This is a separate Pikmin.

So I guess nobody here probably played any of the games they're comparing this to to shit on it, but joke's on you I guess because the 3DS sidescrollers are fucking immaculate.

If this is anywhere near as fun as Zip Lash then fuck yeah. I can handle a platforming Pikmin game. It sounds pretty fun.

I know this isn't Pikmin 4 so I'll continue to look forward to that (NX launch pls).

However, if all existing Pikmin are not in the campaign then why? It only increases the breadth of puzzles you can do come on now.

Also maybe we can see some new types? That'd be super cool I think.

First impressions are really bad for me. Looks boring and tedious. And I say this as a hardcore Pikmin addict.

We'll see how it looks closer to release.

what

this is not pikmin 4 in any way, shape, or form

this isn't a major franchise game, and it's highly doubtful that it's being developed by the main pikmin team

and no one cares whether or not this is given equal promotion space to an actual pikmin 4, although that would be absolutely bizarre and so far there's no evidence of that, but rather about the implications for an actual pikmin 4 if this were that game (surely you know this, or why would you keep accusing people of "denial"? are you telling them they're in denial that this is going to be an important game, as if that's the point or meaningful at all?)

seriously, this thread

this goddamn thread

Hopefully it doesn't end up like Chibi Robo

Artoon? If there's a good director I'm sure they can throw out something decent. YNI had a terrible inception from the start, I'm gonna cross fingers for forgettable

Yay, can we now stop pretending the sky is falling on Pikmin because this was totally Miyamoto's Pikmin 4?

Boo, can I dial back my expectations a fair amount because this is totally being handled by Arzest?

Out of curiosity, is that tweet confirmation that it's Arzest or speculation that it might be Arzest? I'm not familiar with that person, so I don't know one way or the other.

People sick and tired of 2d games are afraid to say it out loud for some reason

Because you get called a hater, toxic, whiny fanboy, etc...

And I LOVE 2D games. Tropical Freeze, Kirby ATRC and Yoshi's WW are some of my favorite games on the Wii U with TF possibly being the best 2D platformer of all time.

Actually, by looking at the final frame of the Japanese Direct, where there is a list of games with related teams developing, there's only "Nintendo" attached to the title. Azrest is in, but for a StreetPass game, I suppose.

...However, since they didn't release full details on the title, and if it's actually developed externally, I think it'll get updated. Something similar happened when they announced, with no title, Yoshi's New Island: the temporary trademark had just Nintendo, no Azrest involvement discolsed at the time.

That tweet is probably about how the look of Pikmin reminds of how Yoshi's New Island looks and, well, it's definitely true. It would fit as well in terms of development schedule.

The irony is that Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island are considered sequels to the original Super Nintendo game.

The moment that the GBA port of Yoshi's Island removed the ability to see red coin tint which they then kept for DS and New Island was when i knew the downfall of Yoshi began.
