Pikmin side-scroller announced for Nintendo 3DS, coming 2017

Pikmin for 3DS (not finalized name)

Based on how they presented it, I doubt it's Pikmin 4.

Looks surprisingly good though IMO. Looks like the gameplay translates over pretty well to 2D

Lol they announce a spinoff Pikmin adapted for 3ds and people get mad. If it was Pikmin 4, the game would be called Pikmin 4.

Besides, even if this was Pikmin 4 you guys think they won't make a Pikmin for NX?

I mean, it's Kirby Mass Attack and the bad Mario Vs. Donkey Kong games... done right, with the correct IP. What's to hate?

Doesn't stop people from acting like lemmings

Nintendo once again shitting out another 2D platformer. Nintendo is seriously the most unambitious publisher/developer out there.

It's unambitious to try and transition an RTS game into a 2D side scroller's mechanics?

Seems pretty ambitious to me, if it works out well.

"Let's make this game a 2D platformer" There's really nothing ambitious about that. Most of Nintendo's software all looks the same, too. The only game I'm looking forward to seeing is Monolith Soft's next game since they always seem to go above and beyond with what they can do with the hardware, whereas the typical Nintendo teams just seem to always make colourful & fluffy, bitesize, pick up and play, tea time games.

Ah.

You're on about the graphics and he's on gameplay mechanics and level design.

Dude it's a portable game for a low resolution system. The graphics are going to be what they're going to be.

In other words, Nintendo is kiddy.

You haven't played Pikmin before, haven't you?
The fuck? I've played all three and they are great. This looks to take it with the same gameplay but in 2D, which for Pikmin actually makes it feel fresh

So it's Pikmin 4?
Obviously not or else no reason to have a unannounced name, but Mario 64 wasn't called Super Mario Bros. 5 and was considered a mainline Mario game.

Jeez just because most game series goes 2D to 3D doesn't mean that a series can't go 3D to 2D since both 3D and 2D have their strengths. I'm sure they'll do more 3D ones in the future and overall, I'm very likely going to prefer 3D for this series but for a transition to 2D it looks like they nailed it.

Just look at the scope of something like Xenoblade on the 3DS, and then here's Nintendo just chucking out little vibrant, simple 2D platformers all the time. Such a boring developer.

In other words, Nintendo is kiddy.

They aggressively target children and their games (majority of them) are vibrant, cute and shallow. They do make products that are heavily aimed at children, so calling Nintendo a "kiddy" company isn't exactly wrong.

I feel like Miyamoto would have been referencing this when he mentioned "Pikmin 4," or maybe there was something lost in translation when Miyamoto first said it? Or they're working on an actual Pikmin 4. Either way, I'll give this a shot.

I'm happy to see this. The more Pikmin the better. I'm sure this won't be the last game in the franchise.

I'm a 33 year old child I guess.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by how good this looks in 2d form. Unfortunately don't have a 3ds right now, but maybe soon.. Maybe.

Let's keep in mind that they never got around to making anything other than ports of pikmin for the Wii. If a console of the wiis success can skip having a new pikmin title, absolutely, yes I can believe a pikmin 4 for NX is anything but guaranteed.

Huh. Kind of a departure from the thoughtful exploration and strategy of the main series, but I'm still game for it. Pikmin is one of my favorite all-time franchises.

To be honest not many quality 2D games on other systems, im sure a Pikmin 4 will be made

I imagine some of you Pikmin fans are feeling what I felt when they revealed Federation Force.

I'm here if you need me.

Honestly this is what I would expect from a 2D side-scrolling Pikmin game, looks like it has similar gameplay to the 3D ones just that its converted over to 2D. I just hope you can explore the 2D levels and that its not an entirely linear Level to Level type game.

I'm a big Pikmin guy and I think this looks GREAT! Seems very inventive and it should serve as a good in-between for Pikmin 4.

Also, is there any confirmation on the Arzest thing? At the very least, I think it looks way better than New Island (as it should, since Pikmin is host to Nintendo at its most imaginative), and it's not like we've seen a half-dozen Pikmin sidescrollers, so...

Borderline passive aggressive reveal.

uh

Baffled by the negative reactions. First handheld Pikmin and we just got a home console Pikmin on the current-generation system three years ago. This is really nothing like Federation Force.

Yes, it's unambitious. This is basically what you do when you try to translate a 3D game into a llwer budgeted game. They could've find many ways to adapt Pikmin on 3DS. Make it with less units. Make it a turn based strategy game. There were so many ways to make it possible... And yet... Here we are. Another side scroller. If it's not for platform games, Nintendo managed to make another Mario VS DK game with a different name.

Game looks pretty good. Nintendo has been in a spinoff giving mood these past couple years with Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, Metroid Federation Force, and now this!!

Nintendo continuing their spin-off spree to fill the transitional period until NX. Nothing new, but this project looks pretty nice nonetheless. The way they're keeping the 3DS alive is pretty charming.

My worry is that - with all the rumours of a pikmin game - either this is it, or it could mean a full pikmin game is further out (secretly hoping for an NX launch window game)

This isn't true at all. Nintendo targets everyone, from young children to the hardcore crowd.

This looks really fun. It's like they took the best of Yoshi's Touch & Go and combined it with Pikmin. Thrilled to see a bunch of new enemies and environments too, after feeling like Pikmin 3 let me down on that regard.

wat

That's not even kind of comparable. Like, at all.

Honestly, it looks great, if simple. I'm mostly just worried about it being worth the price (assuming it's a $40 retail release).

Nintendo games are shallow?

As a whole, no, but many of the spin-offs they've released in the past few years have been.

Those ideas are godawful. The announced game is already much better than this.
