Planetside 2 graphics on PS4 equivalent to 'Ultra' settings on PC

It's a CPU intensive game. I'm not sure how good their multithread support is now, but can it really run on Ultra on a juiced up netbook CPU?

What does eye candy (except for maybe draw distance) have to do with the CPU? How shiny the graphics are is all on the GPU.

The game is built from the ground up to be played on an epic scale with large organised outfits/factions , the PS4 lacks the 3rd party tools that make this possible.

You mean like a way to communicate with your friends / partners / faction / clan ? Like a freakin' PSN party chat ?

Yeah I understand the hierarchical structure of TS is convenient but please, this will be more than sufficient.

Awesome.

So, how many players? Because that's what really matters. I'd be impressed if the CPU could handle above 64 with any consistent performance.

Looking forward to it.

I swear some PC users spend more time shitting up console threads due to their own mental issues than they do actually playing games. I already knew the first few replies would be from people that somehow know more than a game's developer. It's more sad than hilarious, but keep up the good fight.

What's up with all of the pointless "LOLOL HAHAHA NOPE" posts here?

I have a PC that CAN run this just fine at 1080p 60FPS constant, ~40 in huge battles, but I'd rather play on my PS4 on a plasma with a controller. Why shouldn't it be able to run at ultra settings, isn't it in Sony's interest to optimize for their console?

why......why would you want that. You see these people aren't like the FPS gamers of old, they don't enjoy learning shit, putting in effort, or recognizing depth, they fucking despise it. To them not only does that make the game bad, but fundamentally broken.

no, you want the old Killzone, Socom, MAG, Rainbow 6, Battlefield (pre BC2), Counterstrike, Halo (pre 4) crowd. That dying breed of gamers who live for depth, love challenge, and put in the most effort, and more importantly PLAY THE FUCKING OBJECTIVE

Well when you put it like that :)

Yeah, of course I'd hate to see dudebros swamping the servers. I mean that won't happen. All I'd like to see is the game become even more popular than it is. It deserves to be up there.

One of my best experiences from last year was holding off an invading horde of about 500 people with some friends.

Isn't Borderlands the same?

How is a story-based FPS game where the "grind" of leveling up a character is accomplished easily as the story quests are completed the same as an imposed f2p-style advancement grind that is designed to make you want to spend money to bypass it?

At no point of any Borderlands game do I have to sit there attacking the same zones over and over to level up.

Have you even played Borderlands and Planetside 2?

Where are all these "HAHA"-posts. I'm counting 3 out of 115 posts. Maybe you're exaggerating a little bit..? I'm sure the mods can handle it if becomes a problem.

Anyway, you are right; it is in Sony's interest to optimize it. It is a Sony game, and we should keep that fact in mind when discussing it.

There's nothing wrong with the PS4 version getting some love, they have to. But there's also nothing wrong with pointing out that the current PC version is self-admittedly unoptimized thus the "ultra" setting comparison is a bit pointless (plus no variable or injected settings, xxxx res, xx fps).

Well, the first optimization patch came out like a month ago already. Performance went up across the board for players.

But still, they should focus on 60 FPS, not Ultra settings for the PS4. The game really needs it to be as fun as possible. Bad frame rate makes using low ROF guns a chore, and in turn gives a whole faction a crutch. If weapon balance is in parity with the PC version anyone playing TR on consoles will be at a huge advantage.

"What's this? A console thread with positive news? MAN THE BATTLESTATIONS! WE MUST SHIT ON THIS QUICKLY AND CLAIM SUPERIORITY!"

Mission accomplished, fools. I honestly dont see the need for hate. I have no issues with 1080p 60 on my rig but I dont feel the need to bash the PS4 version for GOOD news, smh.

it'll be 30 fps with a typical 55 degree console fov and the render distance cut down so the cpu doesn't choke

it's not that gpu reliant a game
A friend who still plays this daily told me the multicore patch finally makes the game playable on his phenom II 955BE ,which is probably the reason why we only just now hear from the game on ps4 again, if they didn't manage to make it fully multicore then it wouldn't have released at all
They've explicitly said that they were embarassed by their multicore performance and the PS4 version wouldn't be shown or released until they sorted it out.

The master race is getting salty each day.

Yeah, this and the Tomb Raider: Definitive Version. They can't deal.
Just wait a couple of years and you'll have bragging rights again, guys.

Well of course the PC gamers on GAF silly!
Holy Christ. Guys, calm down.
You are starting to slip into full paranoia territory, here.

A couple of guys were skeptics about this game's performances on PS4 and made a remark about it, but no one tried to kill your firstborn.

No one has done that and then you call people fools is very distasteful of you. What people are saying is that if it is not 1080p 60fps then it is all for naught.

So what you're trying to say is that a patch for the PC version was to determining weather or not they would release the game for the PS4, yet they announced this game last June long before this new patch. Why would they even announce the game in the first place, it seems rather counterproductive to announce PS2 for the PS4 but have its fate decided on a future PC patch.

I'm inclined to think you pulled this "info" out of your ass.

PS4 owners rejoice, this is a great game unlike anything in consoles.

That's why I'm so interested to see how it's received by the console audience. I guess you could say that the game is like Battlefield on a much bigger scale but, unlike Battlefield, it doesn't have TDM like modes to appeal to the more casual or lone wolf type players.

From personal experience the game is kinda boring if you're off doing your own thing, but it's a blast if you're running in a good platoon. I really hope the game succeeds on PS4, even though I have my doubts.

I have no doubts they can manage to have equivalent graphics on PS4. The graphics in themselves are not that mind boggling. What I also have no doubts is that in big battles with dozens of players and vehicles and aircraft and everything the framerate is gonna eat shit unless they dynamically scale down the detail.

Why are people who don't think the game will look as good on a PS4 as it does on PC children? I enjoy my gaming, thanks, but that doesn't mean I can't think some things are silly, such as PS2 running at 1080p, 60fps at ultra on a console.
Of course, I might end up wrong but the graphical fidelity of the games we've seen so far do not give me confidence.

Does the good news of a PS4 version affect how much you enjoy your PC version?

PC gamers need to chill out and realize that PC is the measuring stick which next gen console games will be compared to. And to their dismay it's probably going to be positive pretty often in the early goings.

Lol at all the people saying it's not possible like they developed the game or something.

Planetside 2 is a looker on ultra on my PC for sure. But no reason why it can't run at ultra at 30fps on PS4. No reason at all.

It's almost like the two of you have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to throw that shit in his face. Kinda like....

SURPRISE MOTHER FUCKER!!!!

LOL

He should feel flattered, I've said some immensely stupid shit on GAF but nobody cared enough to whip it out at a later date :_(

In all likelihood the PC team probably doesn't have 5% of the "talent" of ND. Note talent includes everything from programming to art to design.
I wonder why some people fail to realize that regardless of that being true or not (and it's actually arguable), how much talent they have compared to Naughty Dog was completely irrelevant in that context and something simply embarrassing to say.

Maybe at that time. I wasn't involved in the thread. People quoting at as some sort of huge falsity though is silly.

Of course, PlanetSide 2 will also include a few PS4-specific features, such as the system's DualShock 4 touchpad being integrated into the User Interface.
As Higby explained, the DS4's touchpad will be used to make menu navigation more seamless and "PC-like.

Heh.

But good news. I was incredibly impressed with PS2, and the sheer number of players.

Yes they do.

Nice dodging by the way.

I wasn't dodging, there's nothing to dodge. That thread was about the relative speeds of the PS4 CPU versus that of a high-end PC, talking about how great Naughty Dog are isn't relevant to the point in any way.

Can we see your Steam profile?
