Planetside 2 graphics on PS4 equivalent to 'Ultra' settings on PC

Threads like these are the perfect example on why I love PC gaming, but just can't stand the community...

The hell is wrong with you people?

I wonder why some people fail to realize that regardless of that being true or not (and it's actually arguable), how much talent they have compared to Naughty Dog was completely irrelevant in that context and something simply embarrassing to say.

Truth.

ND is in fact absolutely amazing at what they do, but lets not cloud are judgment based on some fanboy mentality which discredit other great developers.

i'd think that after about a year they may have improved the code to make ultra settings run better, but personally if the game was 1080p ultra at 30fps I would still love it.

A solid non dropping 30 mind you.

Maybe I'll actually get to play it when it comes out on PS4. I tried it on Steam, but for some reason it forces me to the US registration, and a UK registration does not work with the .exe. It's pretty fucked up. Support told me the way round it is not to use Steam for the download. I found it simpler to not play it at all.

Maybe at that time. I wasn't involved in the thread. People quoting at as some sort of huge falsity though is silly.
No, it's not. What was silly (to put it mildly) was posting that answer to a developer who was just making a statement about hardware power in an interview.
"I'M SO OFFENDED THAT YOU STATE THE PS4 CPU ISN'T SUPER POWERFUL. YOU ARE THE SCUM OF THE EARTH, YOU LAZY DEV! COME BACK WHEN YOU WILL BE THE 5% OF WHAT MY BELOVED NAUGHTY GODS ARE!".
And you actually seem to think people shouldn't mock him for it.

Brought to you by the guy who claims to have an 11 year badge on Steam when they don't exist yet.
He's also the "Steam didn't have good sales in years" and "Valve never had any amount of QA in their games. I wonder if they even test them" guy.

As I said in another thread, for a new user he's trying quite hard to be noticed.

Well, the first optimization patch came out like a month ago already. Performance went up across the board for players.

But still, they should focus on 60 FPS, not Ultra settings for the PS4. The game really needs it to be as fun as possible. Bad frame rate makes using low ROF guns a chore, and in turn gives a whole faction a crutch. If weapon balance is in parity with the PC version anyone playing TR on consoles will be at a huge advantage.

I'd swear I was getting higher framerates prior to their optimization patch, and that was with physx on. I was hovering around 90fps when spawning, now it's like 56-57... Any time I get into a firefight the stuff goes to low 40's making the mouse control incredibly jerky. Performance is the reason why I quit this game and reason why I won't come back to it either.

It will be quite a feat if they make it work alright on console.

Oh gawd, I am In a wrong thread... /how?

Anyways, looking forward to ps2 on ps4... Nothing more to see here, move along.

I never said that.

You said a few posts ago it's arguable, which implies it may or may not be true. Now it's not silly to laugh at it like it's nothing but false?

Now just give us a date...

I love this game on PC, even if it runs like crap on my laptop, so I can't wait to play this in it's full glory. And I actually like playing without a squad, the game tells you where big battles are so it's pretty easy to get in to one of those points and help your faction.

I can't understand why PC users should be so upset about good news of a port.

It does not impact the quality of the game they're already playing.

I remember my first full scale night battle. It was a thing of beauty. Granted I do all my gaming on my tv screen. It would be nice to clear space on the pc hdd

my little brother has succumb to this newer "master race" mentality and its quite sad. It's made him really annoying too since he only talks about resolution and fps and uses them as points against consoles. As if its something new that this generation has been faced with.

At PS2 initial release for the PC it had never been truly optimized for a multi core CPU, but more so based on a high end PC CPU' brute strength?

technically some of the optimizations are simplifying the graphical capabilities of the game

Reading this thread, it's almost like console games have never been 30fps, or below 1080p. I'll be disappointed with the later, but the former is a given, and people expecting more need a reality check.

Bu-bu-but dem 2000 players?

Not sure it's even relevant. MAG had over a hundred players on the fucking PS3 guys, with half a Gb of ram...Sure it looked ugly, and played like shite, but I don't think player count is a main issue.

I'm certainly not, if it were up to me everyone would have exactly the same games with perfect graphics and performance, and we could all be happy.

I just saw some bullshit and thought I'd have a bit of fun while I drank my coffee.

I dont think its really comparable to console wars threads. PC community is far, far more objective and calm than console ones.

Still, i dont know what wrong with a topic, running PS2 on Ultra on PS4 in 30hz should be definitely possible, the better question is how framerate will hold-up in big battles.

A classic post.

I don't mind if they had to do some stuff to make it play well on PS4. Don't feel like upgrading my GFX just to play this.

It's your CPU, you can get over 60FPS in this game with a puny 560Ti these days. That should definitely be the target for this version.
Has it changed that much? My 480 GTX couldn't get close on ultra at 1080p in the beta, 2500K (OC @ 4.5) to compliment.

I'm really looking forward to the PS4 release.

Planetside 2 isn't exactly spectacular looking. I wouldn't be surprised if it can do that at 60fps/1080p tbh.

It's more about the number of people on a server. Which is why the game is more CPU intensive. Imagine what BF4 or COD would look like with hundreds of players on a server...

the PS4 GPU is more than capable of running planetside 2 at atleast a similar clip to a 7850, which can just about push ultra settings at 60FPS. it's the CPU which has always been the issue in this port and to maintain that framerate on PC you still need something like a 2nd gen i5.

dicing up this game for eight low power cores is no joke and i was sceptical whether they could ever make it happen. if they can infact push the full 1080p/60fps/ultra experience then that's a crazy achievement which will say much more about the PS4's potential than any of the launch titles.

I think it's reasonable to adopt a wait and see approach with claims like these. After all, we have an example of broken promises already:

After the mess with Call of Duty: Ghosts, we’ve recently been looking at developers laying out their plans for resolutions and frame-rates on next-gen consoles. Zombie Studios’ is bringing their free to play first person shooter Blacklight: Retribution to the PlayStation 4 and GamingBolt recently had a chance to chat with studio director Jared Gerritzen on the game’s resolution and frames per rate.
We asked Gerritzen how the PS4 version holds up to a high-end PC running the game, to which he replied, “We have all the PC settings cranked up to their highest setting on the PlayStation 4, so it holds up great! We are really happy how the transition between high end PC and PlayStation 4 works for us.”

According to people who've played Blacklight on PS4, not only does the game look worse than PC but also the frame rate is really bad.

are people really that upset? I think people are more hella cynical these days with a bit how underwhelming next gen gaming is feeling especially after e3 where pretty much everyone and their mom was promising 1080p 60fps.

In all likelihood the PC team probably doesn't have 5% of the "talent" of ND. Note talent includes everything from programming to art to design.

This quote is even funnier considering Planetside 2 is a Sony developed game thus it's not unlikely that ND devs has been involved in some form.

Seems some more noses are being put out of joint by the ps4, Not too shabby for a console that costs a measly £350 or if wanna get nitpicky £300 as the controller is worth £50.

On topic, Scaling back too 720p/900p would seem the viable option for them to succeed with the ultra settings, But then it would be awesome just for the outcry if it was 1080p.

BUT cant help escape the another shooter factor for the ps4, After B4/KZ/Warframe im pretty burned out already with shooters.

I'm always confused why PS2 doesn't have a big thread here, seeing how it is a really fantastic game that offers something no other game on the market offers.

Will reserve judgement until more details come out. It doesn't say anything about the resolution/framerate.

It will be interesting to see how it serves, though. It's give a direct comparison between the PS4 and PC while running an initially PC optimized game.

Because it's a grindy F2P game? It should get as much thread space as shitty mobile and social games. The only reason this game even gets discussed is so console and PC warriors can fight over yet another thing.

I played the game for 1 year in a 400people strong outfit and it was the best time I ever had with gaming. We made hundreds of CERTs every night and we had amazing moments and fights.

Honestly, everyone can have their opinion, but I am pretty much laughing at your post right now.

Mee too. We have so many experts of this game on the board, at least looks like that reading this topic.

But they choose to talk of this game only when news of the ps4 port come out.

So strange.

Then you're perfectly qualified to generate interests by making a LTTP thread. I'll even do you the favor and not post in it about the assy F2Pness of the game. ;-)

So wait...it can run at 60fps at 4K with physx on ultra on PS4?
PlanetSide 2's graphical settings includes an option called "Overall Quality" which are presets for the more advanced settings. The PS4's settings are allegedly equivalent to the Ultra preset.

I would agree with you but if you really want to look at it that way. Historically, consoles have always been underwhelming. Not sure what the surprise is or the agonizing factor is for the "newer" master race people. I don't recall people being remotely this cynical in regards to consoles from the PC crowd when last gen started. Granted I spent most of my time playing cod 1 and 2

Actually, there were a massive beta thread, a community thread and several other threads about any major update.
But fine, keep being in denial for the sake of comedic effect and team scoring, if that's how you want to play it.

Are you of all people calling others out on being biased? Come on man :lol
Yes, I am.
I have no obligation of loyalty toward any specific brand and I would challenge you to find a single post proving otherwise.

it'll be 30 fps with a typical 55 degree console fov and the render distance cut down so the cpu doesn't choke

it's not that gpu reliant a game
A friend who still plays this daily told me the multicore patch finally makes the game playable on his phenom II 955BE ,which is probably the reason why we only just now hear from the game on ps4 again, if they didn't manage to make it fully multicore then it wouldn't have released at all

Tell me, who is the president of the united states in this distant future in which you came from?
